In and Out in a Day

I am feeling a bit better today. Whatever this was, was not fun. I never have had a fever or anything else other than an upset stomach and no appetite at all. Still don't feel hungry. Strange, really strange. I jumped on the scale this morning and it was down almost 5 pounds so at least that was good.

What a way to lose weight! I think those bugs are the worst, you can'f figure out what is wrong but you know something is. I am glad you are feeling better!

Marilyn - Oh no! Is your right knee better?

I could really use some prayers and your thoughts right now. We're having a not so nice start to the year and I'm hoping our luck changes for the better soon. I'm trying to keep as upbeat as I can but there are moments.....

.

Oh Sweetie! Prayers offered! I know that there is that pesky distance thing but if there is any way we can help, let us know. We are all here!

Everyone here is feeling better, thanks for all of the well wishes! I’m convinced we get ill so often because Johnny works in a nursing home. He refuses to take a flu shot, the man is scared of needles.:rolleyes2

Our city is getting so electric! Super Bowl prep is in full force and is so exciting. Mardi Gras and Super Bowl at the same time is going to be crazy good!!
:

LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I remember the year Kady was born. My sister came to my Mom's with a flu shot, parked my keister in a chair and said "Buckle up!" I was more afraid of her when she was in that mood than the needle! :lmao: Been getting them every year since then.

I am kind of jealous of that city energy you all have. It has been so long since Hartford lights up for anything that special.

Things are back to normal here and we are all healthy. It an absolutely gorgeous day here, the sun is shiny and we got a couple of inches of snow so everything is crisp and white. I love it. Of course I don't need to go anywhere today so that probably helps. Have a great weekend all.

YAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My knee is being a pain in more ways than one. :sad2: The worst is at night and first thing in the morning because it stiffens up really badly and hurts like crazy which has been waking me up. And of course waking up means I have to go to the blessed bathroom which is on another floor. :crazy2: And during the day it can go from okay walking with a slight limp to being so stiff I am limping badly.

:grouphug:

I am cleaning today. I do not want to let it get away from me again so even though I have kept it up all week I am going through the entire house. I really need to get back to the way I was, I used to do so much more around the house and I really felt better doing that.

I did make some laundry soap today. It is a powder and uses a lot of the stuff I add anyway so I figured it was worth a try. WE'll see. I really have to stay off of Pniterest.............the Do it yourselfer in me is costing me a minor fortune! :lmao:

Raven' s are going to the Superbowl!!!!!!:cool1::cheer2::cheer2: :cheer2:

I'm happy for you! I hope your knee feels better.

Nancy, sounds like you need a pintervention!

Ellen, sorry to hear you were sick but glad to hear you are feeling better.

Kathy, I want to go downtown at some point also just to see all the Super Bowl crowds too!

PIO, I hear you. Sorry you're dealing with rough stuff.

I know I'm missing a lot, but I figured I'd just jump back in. :crowded:< I meant to put the group hug smile, but this is what I clicked. Guess it's bed time. :rotfl:

:grouphug:

Robyn – We’ve never experienced a double whammy like we’re about to get hit with. We’ve never had 2 huge events at once. It’s going to be exciting!

PIO – Keeping you in my thoughts, my friend.

Nan – I am jealous of all of you who live up in the Northeast and hopefully one day I’ll make it up there. All the hoopla and excitement down here is fun but we have problems down here that far outweigh all of that. The crime is and has been out of control and did ya hear our ex-mayor was just indicted on 21 counts of federal corruption?:sad2:

Marilyn – I’m happy the Ravens won, they have had a very special season and so deserve to be there. I will be cheering for them on game day, that’s for sure!!!!!

Bethany – Good to have you back!!

Saturday we had shrimp tacos and homemade guac and I also cooked braised short ribs for Sunday which I served with smashed roasted garlic potatoes and an arugula salad. WFD tonight is bbq baby back ribs, baked beans and baked mac & cheese.

Thanks Kat. After these last two games it is especially gratifying that they are on their way. Both games there were a lot of people who said they weren't going to win including one commentator last night who said they wouldn't because Tom Brady wanted it more.:confused3

Well, I guess when it rains, it pours here! After finding out our van wouldn't pass inspection, we had to pour 350 dollars into an engine fix for it. I hoped that nothing else would go wrong, at this point. We are dead broke, but of course, Fate had other things in store for us. Our dishwasher gave out on Saturday. Alan is trying to figure out a way for him to fix it without too much expense, but it's getting a bit depressing. At least we all have our health... oh yeah, we don't even have that! Alan has the flu, and now, at least 2 of the kids are exhibiting symptoms. Do you ever have days that you just want to pull a "George Bailey" and put it all behind you??? That's been my life the last couple of weeks.

Alan's schooling, while hopefully it will pay off in the long run, has run through out savings. We literally have nothing. I'm looking for some part time work, but no one wants to hire a 45 year old SAHM who can only work from 9-3. Very frustrating!

Sorry to vent. I'm just really tired of trying to hold it together for Alan and the kids. I just want to cry and scream, and I can't here, or else everyone else gets upset. I don't want to be the strong one, anymore!

Oh, Glynis. That's rotten luck. At least, of ALL the housing appliances to give out, the dishwasher is one of the easiest to get by without. With your large family, handwashing is a huge undertaking, however! Maybe go to Dollar Tree and get paper products and dish soap and only wash the pots and pans to get by for a few weeks?

I hope the flu doesn't give you all too much trouble!

Check with the school system and see if they have anything. Lunch helpers are only a couple of hours and in some cases get paid better.

Went to the ortho today. Have severe arthritis so he is having me do physical therapy, Aleve, ice at night and heat in the morning and see what happens.

You will be welcomed whenever you can make it. Marisa and I want to head your way someday!

I did hear about your mayor. I am so sorry!

Thanks Kat. After these last two games it is especially gratifying that they are on their way. Both games there were a lot of people who said they weren't going to win including one commentator last night who said they wouldn't because Tom Brady wanted it more.:confused3

Well let's leave Tom Brady's wants with "if if's and but's were candy and niuts we'd all have a merry Christmas"............... Buddy had a few interesting things to say and Donny called all upset about my niece in Texas and her FB post. Turns out since he does not follow football he thought something was terribly wrong with her. ;) Yup......Tom Brady has affected us all :happytv:

!

Breathe! First, I am so sorry about the dishwasher, it sounds like that was your last straw  I just want you to stop selling yourself short. I was thinking, have you thought to sub? Or to tutor? You taught English and that is a skill that kids need to enter college. Many do not have it, I know this because I had to read some of their papers :sad2:. We did "Peer Reviews" and teh only feedback they could give me was "I hope she reads mine before she reads yours." :sad2:

I was not much younger than you when I realized that I did not know how to do anything. I was a waitress for just about all my life and then I cleaned so that I could be home with the kids. (Cleaning houses is fantastic money, BTW) I took an entry level position at a call center and that led the way for me. Now I realize that you aren't looking at a call center but you have a skill set that may not realize you have so maybe you could reach out to a friend and really look at what you can put in a resume. Marisa and her coworker did my first one and let me tell you, she made this cleanin lady look like I had some accomplishments. You have way more under your belt than I did.

Make some lists of the things that you do, you volunteer, you work with Alan, You help your Dad in the theater. You have a certificate in medical transcription. I know that these are not paid positions but they do indicate that while you stayed int eh home to care for your children you were not pulling a Peggy Bundy eating Bon bons. You continued to grow. And you had a solid background upon which to grow.............you have an education and experience in you field. My niece is a technical writer and is able to work from home more often than not.

So, anyway, lecture is over except to say again that you are more than a 45 year old SAHM. That is what you do, not what you are!
:grouphug:

Glynis- you had better be listening to Nancy! Now I'm off to bed but I'll be back in the morning for my turn to lecture you on how capable you are.

Glynis -

I'm still here; just haven't been checking in on the Dis as much as normal. Real life is a full-time affair right now. But I'm breathing in and out....a lot!

Glynis – I am so sorry, my friend. It always seems that when it rains it pours. I can’t say anything that Nan and the others haven’t already said. Now you need to listen to every word and know that you have so much to offer. I’ll be praying something comes your way quickly.

Marilyn – Hoping the PT and Aleve give you some relief.

WFD – Creamy chicken piccata, angel hair pasta and oven roasted broccoli.

Good morning everyone,

Glynis ~ Happy Birthday my dear dear friend.
Now like the rest have said You are a real gem. Don't sell yourself short. I know it is rough right now but it will get better. When we moved to the farm there was no dishwasher. I had 3 kids and I didn't want to lose anymore cupboard space so we never put one in. I have never missed it. Get those girls to wash and dry them. Prayers are with you - things will get better!!

Merle ~ Sorry to hear about your knee. Not an easy fix but one that can be helped without sugery.

Bethany ~ It is so good to see you. I don't know why but I have really been thinking of you lately. Hope all is ok.

Nan ~ You are a good friend.

PIO ~ Sure hope things are better for you this week. :goodvibes

Robin & Kat ~

I had yesterday off and what a good time I had. Saturday and yesterday I cleaned all day. I replaced the shelf liner in all of my cupboards in my kitchen and in the process purged and pitched. I defrosted the deep freezer, cleaned and purged the pantry. Moved my applicances and scrubed behind them. Wiped the cupboards and walls down. This might not sound like fun to you, but to me I was in 7th heaven. This has needed to be done for awhile and now it is and it feels amazing.

Back to work this morning. I would much rather be home though. I am such a home body. Except for Church on Sunday I never left the house. I even forgot to go to Zumba yesterday. Woops!!

WFDT ~ Cinnamon glazed pork chops, cream cheese mashed potatoes and coleslaw.

Make it a great day.

Glynis- happy birthday, I hope you're having a great day. I've just discovered a blog you might be interested in- the prudent homemaker blog. On her blog each week she does a frugal accomplishments post and people add to the comments with ways they have saved money over the week. Some of the things are a little extreme, but everyone is very encouraging and upbeat. She also has a website but I prefer the blog. I found it when I was searching for a vinegar based cleaner Since I don't work in the winter (and trust me, I'm always searching for a year round job) I consider my job to be making the best use of my husbands income. And let's face it, budgeting takes time, searching for deals takes time, and cooking from scratch takes time but since I don't have to go to work I have that time. We have a dishwasher for the first time in twelve years, and yes it is great but we were fine without it also. This time last year we had a years worth of expenses in our saving account but we spent almost all of it remodeling our house, we were naive and thought we budgeted enough and wouldn't need to tap into our savings. Sure, it's on the back of my mind, but we built it up before and we can do it again. Alan is probably feeling a bit guilty that the money is being spent on him, but it's an investment in all of your futures. I read something recently and it's really stuck in my mind, "don't worry about things money can fix." My dad recently had a life saving surgery and a close family friend passed away unexpectedly- I don't worry about things money can fix. I'll get off my soap box now.

Ellen- I guess you're feeling better! I have to get our freezer defrosted, I wanted to get it done last spring but the steer half we ordered got butchered earlier that expected and we needed the freezer. How long does it take to defrost? I've never had to defrost a freezer before.

PIO- hope things are going well.

Bethany- welcome back!

Kathy- I think the grass is always greener, I love where I live but it sure is cold here right now. If I didn't love me house so much I would really be dreaming about moving right now. Hopefully the Super Bowl and mardi grad will bring some good press to your town. I'm just happy I only have to watch one more football game unto fall!

Have a great day all, off to sit by the fire.

Happy Birthday, Glynis!

I'm excited about the Super Bowl! :hyper:

I'm also exctied about Mardi Gras :jester:, but I can't go to one of my favorite parades this year due to work obligations early the next morning. :headache: Last year, the day after that parade was a half day and I didn't have anything important on the agenda for that day. Good thing, since I was exhausted since I'd been out since 1am on a school night. :rolleyes1 This year, I have a parent meeting, a formal observation, two administration meetings, and a parade :rotfl: to attend during school hours. Somehow, I'm not sure if I'll actually be teaching  on that day with all that other stuff going on.

I'm thinking I'll try to go to D'Etat, Morpheus, Bacchus, Rex, and maybe a few others.

Ellen, :flower3: Your cleaning sounds nice. I've been attempting to clean. It's not going so well. My friend lent me a Zumba DVD. It's still in the box...

Robin, having lived in four distinct regions of the country, there are definitely good and bad points to all places. It can be hard to find the right fit sometimes. Just remember, mild winters generally mean long, HOT summers!

You guys are THE BEST FRIENDS IN THE WORLD!!! Thanks for letting me vent, and then validating me! I really needed it. In hind sight, I've just let myself get so stressed about things that are out of my control, that every little thing drags me down. Not anymore! I'm not going to stress about things I cannot change! That's my new mantra!
