In and Out in a Day

Morning all. Just checking in.

Not much to report Down Under, aside from rather variable extremes of weather, more work, and more Xmas prep. I hope Santa doesn't mind coming to a messy home!

WFDT? I have no idea. It could be simple pasta.

My weekend has started. I'm hoping to finish my initial christmas preparations completed so that I can then concentrate on the food side of things. Sadly, I'll have to go to the shops to find a couple of presents for girls. Seems like my parents are expecting some friends that have girls for dinner as well.

Is it awful that I've decided on the same Christmas menu that I served last year? :confused3

Nan - I hope you're feeling better!

Ellen - Your Christmas parade sounded like a lot of fun!

PIO - I don't think it's awful to have the same Christmas menu! If it ain't broke don't fix it.;)

Running errands and going to the gym today before our night out with Sheryl & Bob tonight. So excited to be going to John Besh's Domenica in the Roosevelt hotel. The holiday decorations are just stunning.....

Hello all. Getting ready for another marathon weekend. Have a work party tonight, track meet for the Dgodson, karate graduation for the youngest DN and depending on how her sister does, swim meet for the older DN tomorrow. Her prelim swims are during the the little ones karate and she has a chance to make it into the finals. If she does we will come back to the meet, if not we will just go shopping then home.

Sunday is the conclusion of the meet.

Good Morning All! I am so sorry that I have been MIA, this last week was crazy! I am still feeling pretty lousy and it is the last week of classes on top of that. So frustrating! I do have a lot of decorating done but no tree yet. My neighbor called to make sure all was okay here, she is used to seeing it lit up the weekend after Thanksgiving. Hoping for Tuesday afternoon to put it up and place some decorations outdoors. Good thing I got the inside all done before vacation, that si all I can say.

Ellen- I love the tattoo idea! You have such a wonderful connection with your girls, and celebrating that bond is such a lovely thing to do! Now about Liam?!?!?! Where did the past year go?

Glynis- I have been following the wedding drama and my heart breaks for this young woman's family. Sometimes it is best to try to step back and let young people figure out their priorities on their own. When Dan and Erica moved to FL those years ago it was so hard to let them go but it was the best thing for them. When they were so close by they both knew that we were always there to hold them up. We never ever would have let anything happen if we could help it. It was so hard but they did so well! Maybe your friends need to let their DD manage for a while.

Robin- I still remember how it felt to have our home all working at the same time! It took forever but so worth the wait! Best wishes in your brand new home!

Kat- I hope you are not under too much stress. Your migraines get worse then.

PIO- Our Christmas menu is generally the same year to year. We are kind of tradition oriented, even if we make that tradition up as we go along :rotfl:

Marilyn- Once again I am exhausted by your schedule! :woohoo:

Okay- today is a presentation for my environmental sciences class. Wish me luck!

Good morning! Sorry I haven't posted in a while. I got myself into a funk, and have had to work really hard to get out of it. Still working, but I figured the best thing is to surround myself with my friends, right? So, here I am!

Things here are progressing well! Alan finished up his classwork for the semester, and was told by his thesis committee that he is right on track with his thesis! They loved what he showed them, and have given their approval to continue on this track! He was also informed that if he adds another class to his schedule next semester, he will be able to walk in graduation in the spring, with 4 hours of independent study to finish over the summer. That would be wonderful, as it would mean that he wouldn't have to wait a whole year to walk for just 4 hours! So, I guess that Alan will really be MIA next semester as he tries to finish up his classwork, take his comps, and work on his thesis. Sigh! I knew I'd be a "single mom" for a while, but at least the end is in sight!

Because of this decision, I have decided to stop the volunteering that I've been doing for the theater department at the high school. Doing the costumes for White Christmas was such an eye opener for me! I knew it would take some time, but I didn't really imagine it would take as much time away from my kids as it did. The next show is Les Miserables, and I have told them that I can't do it. My kids need me more! I'm sad about it, as I loved working with the kids, but I need to be with my family.

I'm really excited about this weekend! I get to go see my dad in a performance of "A Christmas Carol: On the Air." It's a fun adaptation of the classic story, as performed by a 40's radio theater group! My dad plays Scrooge! I posted a picture of him as Scrooge on my FB timeline! It's going to be a great way to get in the holiday spirit. After that, we are bringing dad's 2 yorkie dogs to our house, while dad travels with the show. He will arrive at our house on the 23rd to spend Christmas with us, and we can't wait!!! The kids have lots of things in store for Grandpa!

Now, give me some ideas for Christmas dinner. In the past, we've done turkey, ham and roast beef. What's on your menu this year?

Marilyn - I hope all the kiddos did well with their competitions this weekend! I don't know how you do it all!

PIO - Your Christmas decorations are absolutely beautiful!!! I don't think my scrawny stuff is "thread worthy".:rotfl:

Nan - Good luck on your presentation and I'm glad you're feeling better!

Glynis - Congratulations to Alan!!! I'm sure you'll miss working on the play with the kids but your family is your priority, you made a wise decision. How excited you must be over getting to see Dad as Scrooge, that's so cool!!!

So far here's what I'm planning on for Christmas -Sticky Bun ring for breakfast and dinner will be sweet & spicy bourbon ham, shrimp and mirliton casserole, seafood gumbo and a coconut cake.

Nancy- How was Disney? I'm sorry you're not feeling well.

Glynis- sorry you are not feeling the best. Sounds like things are right on track for Alan, you all must be so proud.

Kathy- how was dinner with Sheryl, I miss her around here. All I have to make for Christmas is cinnamon rolls. I can't wait, kiddo only wants them on Christmas morning because they wouldn't be as special if we had them other times during the year. Cinnamon rolls are not the time to get sentimental!

It was fantastic!!! We had such a great night. The food was amazing, Sheryl & Bob had met the chef at a fundraiser last year and they asked to see him, Well, he came out and asked if we had any questions about the menu and then offered to just send out some of his favorite dishes to us...OMG the food was incredible. The Christmas decorations at the hotel are spectacular and while we were walking around enjoying them Sheryl spotted two of the stars of the HBO show Treme and we got to meet them and take pics with them. Johnny & I don't watch that show but we enjoyed how excited Sheryl & Bob were. We had a blast!!!

Nancy Louise - I hope you're resting and looking after yourself!!! Glad to see you back here. How did your presentation go?

Glynis - Seems like its real easy to get in a funk but hard work to get yourself out of one. And yes, surrounding yourself with friends and sharing seems to work for me to. I hope that the year goes quick for you and Alan....seems like a good decision to add the extra hours despite the short-term pain of you being a single parent. How was your Dad's performance?

My menu will be turkey breast roll; stuffed salmon cutlets and sides. Same as last year. As the ladies here have pointed out, if it isn't broke, don't fix it!

Kat - please post your decorations. I just love seeing how everyone has decorated for this holiday season.

Robin - Hope you are well.

Glynis- Sweetie, you are overtired! I think it is a good idea to back away from the extras right now. Alan has to get his education and that leaves you alone to hold the family together. I can sympathize, I have no little ones home and we are living in the middle of an explosion. Buddy and I can make do but that is not possible with children. Enjoy the performance!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Kat- I have been following your dinner plans on FB and was thrilled for the four of you!

PIO- I am still working on Christmas dinner. I know I am roasting a Prime Rib roast, mashed potatoes and some nice veggies. I have to make something not beef for Marisa but that is up in the air, I have cooked an apricot glazed pork loin, a prosciutto pork, turkey but I don't know what I want this year.

I am also cutting back the baking. I end up tossing a lot so I need to scale it way back, I can always bake during the week between Christmas and New years if we have company.

Last week of schoo land crunch time!

PIO, where are the photos of your decorations? I would love to see them.

Glynis, you must feel good about the end being in sight for Alan! It will be busy but so worth it.

Kathy, the pictures you posted of the meal looked amazing! I am glad that you and Sheryl had a good dinner.

Christmas dinner is still "in the works" for me. I am definitely doing racks of lamb for the main. Everything else is up in the air at the moment. I am consdering a mushroom gratin, and I need to figure out the starch and some green vegetables. My Mom will make pecan pie for dessert.

The weekend was all up in the air and all over the place. :crazy2: I was up late at the party Friday night.

My youngest DN was up late Friday night, sick, and her karate thing was off, then on, then off again. Mainly off the last time due to the hotel pool. :thumbsup2 We did have to run to their house to pick up her older sisters forgotten basketball uniform, she had a game right after her swim meet Sunday. She was feeling fine at first then started fading because she was up all night. After some rest she woke up feeling warm but insisted it was from being under the heavy blanket and that she wanted to play in the pool. She no sooner got in the pool and realized it was not from the blankets, she had a fever. ::yes:: She then took a nap and when her mother and sister got back she took some Ibuprofen and felt better.

I went home after dinner with them and crashed. :faint:

I wouldn't have been able to get to my godsons meet until late Saturday, it was running from 9am to 10pm, but he only did one event in his meet. He had a stress fracture back in September and still occasionally has problems when he runs too fast at longer distances. He did the 500 meter and at the end his leg started hurting, and his coach pulled him. She didn't want him to cause any damage to it.

Sunday I ended up taking my older DN to the swim meet and her basketball game because her little sister was back to feeling bad and my sister wanted to just take her home.

This coming weekend I have nothing but a massage scheduled. :cheer2:

Grrrr, I keep getting bumped here. Long story short, marilyn and PIO enjoy your massages. Kathy, glad dinner was such a hit, sounds like a fantastic night.
Nancy- how long of a break do you have from classes? Hope the last week goes well.

Hi everyone. Hope your Christmas preparations are going well. We're well and truly in the silly season celebrations now. Today, I had a Christmas party at the workplace I'm in and tomorrow night is the Christmas party for the company that signs my paycheques.

I'm really looking forward to the Christmas party tomorrow night. It should be a good night. I rarely see the other people that works for the company that signs my paycheques and I'm glad to be spending some time with them. By and large, they are a fun bunch and I have some lasting friends in the company. We're all going to be sitting on a table together.

We're also catching up with friends on Sunday morning for breakfast.

Just this weekend alone....I expect to be 10 lbs heavier by the time Sunday night comes round. :faint:

Have a great day all.

My massage will be the only relaxing thing about my weekend. :headache: Dsis called last night, she needs help getting her house cleaned up and decorated for Christmas so I am going there on Sunday.

Tonight I have to get one quilt finished and another started. Tomorrow I have to finish decorating the yard, have my massage, go to my godsons photo shoot for his senior pictures, I think his DM wants me to photograph him too just in case, finish quilt two, cut out a bunch of stuff on my Cri-Cut and then collapse. :faint:

Sunday it's my sister's house and at some point I have to make cookies to mail to a coworkers son.
