In a rut?

I don't go to WDW often, every couple of years seems to be the pattern. I find myself choosing the same restaurants each trip. So, is this a good thing? I've found places I like, so why not stick with them? Or am I in a rut and should I make an effort to break out of it?

for us it depends on whose going with us and i must add we have a family tradition for vacation eating, we call it "eating outside the box". no chain places and basically the aim to to try things that are local/regional specialties. for instance we eat bbq here at home all the time but when i visit family in kansas city we always do bbq at some hole in the wall/locals only popular kind of place. my sister and i take an annual wdw girls only trip in the fall and we have 1 or 2 favorites we can't seem to let go of but we have a rule to add a minimum of 2 new places each trip. this year we've booked 6 nights 7 days and have 5 new places booked. unless you have super picky eaters try freshen up and make the vacation new by trying new places. if you have kids get them involved in choosing making it an adventure, now is the time to introduce them to new flavors. we always say if we hate it we can always take 2 minutes to grab a hamburger later.

I'm tempted to say you're in a rut. But then again, we do have our favorites that we keep going back to.

To balance it all out, we usually try to combine at least one new/different restaurant with one favorite. After all, how do you know you won't find a new favorite?

Same here. Sometimes it's hard to "bump" a favorite for someplace new that it's possible you may not like as much - but you may end up with a new favorite! I usually mix it up between places I've been before and really liked, and new (to me!) restaurants.

I too am usually a restaurant creature of habit. Our May trip dh insisted we try some new ones, so we did Citricos for our anniv., Flying Fish, Starring Rolls, Hollywood Brown Derby. Captains Grille and I went to the Afternoon Tea at the Grand Floridian with another diser

For our december trip the only new restaurant we are trying is Rose and Crown lunch.,

I am running into the same problem. We go every year or so and I feel like I am getting too many "traditions".

This year I have stuck with a few traditions and thrown in some new places! It's sad to miss some of my favorites, but I want to try new places too!

We try new places on every trip. The only restaurant we've eaten at twice was Sci Fi Dine In, because we were traveling with a different group of people who I thought would appreciate it.

I enjoy trying new places. It puts a new spin on Disney for me.

We changed things up this time and ate at a couple of new places and I really enjoyed it. In fact, we tried Kona Cafe a few years back and now it's one of our must do's each trip. This time we tried Teppan Edo and we enjoyed it. We also tried Crystal Palace and we all really liked it too. I think it's fun to try new places.:goodvibes

Our favorites now are:

50's Prime Time Cafe (love the new option of meatloaf, chicken & pot roast)
Kona Cafe
Crystal Palace (very convenient)
Le Cellier
Teppan Edo (want Dh to try it)
Chef Mickeys (family favorite-but I could skip)
Ohana

And I am sure I could think of a few others.

That's a good question. The problem with trying a new restaurant is that there is always a good chance that you won't like it and then regret giving up the old standbys that you love.

Since you go every 2 or 3 years I would probably try 1 new place and then keep the old favorites.

this way you may find new favorites.

I think it's easy to get into a rut. Disney has so many great resterants that it's hard to give one up. Especially if you only get to go once a year. Maybe try changing one or two every year. You never know you might find a new favorite! We go to cm, cp, and the hddr every year no question...:goodvibes

We eat a TS meal every night. We have our favorites that are MUST DOs every trip: 'Ohana (dinner), Cape May (dinner), & Teppan Edo. We also usually dine at The Yachtsman every trip, but this past trip we gave that up for Shula's (for Father's Day dinner) instead.

But...we have a rule in our family that we must try a "new" restaurant every trip. Last week, it was Via Napoli. In January, it was Raglan Road. We really enjoy doing this, as it gives us something exciting to look forward to.

For our next trip,...we have not yet decided what we will try.

We try to do one new restaurant each time we go. We did end up finding a new favorite. It is very hard to give up old favorite though, but it can be well worth it.

Well, the problem with that is, if you really like the new place, then you'll want to go back to that place....what's occurred then, is that you're in a new rut....and even if you only go back to the new place a few times, then force yourself into trying yet another new place and liking it....well....you've then joined the realm of being a serial rutter.

;)

Last trip & this time all new choices still miss some of our favs.ME :hmghost: DW :tink:

We try to do a mix of faves & new places every trip. Sometimes it's great & others... not so much. We hit the jackpot with every new place we tried on our June trip this year! :thumbsup2
