in a panic about the townhome we are renting

We are flying out tomorrow. I just received an email this morning telling me that the unit we are staying in has a leak in one of the bedrooms. The reason we rented this townhome offsite was for the relaxed open atmosphere that we would have. My husband and I share a room and my two youngest each have their own single bed in the 2nd bedroom. My oldest teen was going to have the 2nd master bedroom to herself. This is the room in question. We also wanted the 3 bathrooms. It makes life so much easier with two teenage girls in the house.

They have a pull out couch in the family room but none of us get a good night's sleep on one of those. The management company even said something about putting a blowup mattress on top of it but I know that will be even more awkward and uncomfortable.

Besides that we don't want people coming in and out working on the room all week. The management company said that it is possible that it would only take 4-5 hours to fix but we don't want to have to worry about when or when we can't be in the townhome. We plan on going to the parks in the morning, heading back to the townhome for a break and then heading back at night. This couldn't happen if they are working on our townhome.

What also bothers me is that the owner knew about this for a week and just now told us. Supposedly the management company is looking for another open unit with the same amount of rooms, etc. but since it is so crowded down there right now we're not sure they'll be able to find something.

I know that things like this can happen but we are spending a lot of money on this trip and don't feel like we should have to put up with something like this.

I know what goes in to planning a trip and I would be upset too.

I think I would focus on what I wanted the owner/mgmt co. to do in order for me to make the best of the situation.

Since a good 60% of my trip planning time goes into choosing where to stay, and I'm particular about that, my thoughts would lean toward a comparable accomodation, if they can find one, or a healthy refund of part of the agreed upon price if I had to stay in the unit while a bedroom was out of commission or being worked on.

While I would probably be a little freaked out, I would try to bear in mind that pipes break, ceilings leak, ac/heating breaks......these things just happen.

I just wanted to say that I've calmed down a bit. The owner is being quite understanding and helpful. He is looking into other options for us but is giving us a discount if we still stay at his home. He explained things to me and I understand that it wasn't is fault that he didn't tell me until now. I'm actually quite impressed with the way he is handling this.

I'm glad to hear he's trying to get you accommodated for the inconvenience.
That said, the consolidator my agency works with has always given my clients a complimentary upgrade if something happens with the unit that they originally book. A maintenance issue with the property should have been addressed immediately, but hopefully all will turn out well and you'll have a great vacation! :thumbsup2

Best wishes for a wonderful. Please let us know how it turned out when you return.
