Improvizing a "non-official" renewal of vows during a cruise - ideas please!

Cruise group?

To me "vow renewal" and "anniversary" are two very different things... :)

Check here for your cruise by ship and date http://www.disboards.com/forums/disney-cruise-meets.85/

I understand that they are different but you are not having a wedding type ceremony with an officiant, guests, etc. that would usually be associated with vow renewal. No one looking on would think what you want to do privately was a wedding, which is a good thing on a Disney cruise. Unless you want to spend about $3,500.

Thanks for the link.

Unless they have a "code" for celebration that would make them confused about our celebration, I don't think it's gonna change much. And if it's really THAT important, I might just go with "honeymoon" since everything that's gonna happen after the renewal is going to be exactly like a honeymoon. :)

UPDATE: I just called DCL and I explained everything I had in mind about our celebration. They added the celebration to our reservation.

Apparently they have no problem about what we are going to do (non-Disney very private celebration) and even suggested that we eat at the MDR that night so they can "mark the occasion".

No trust me, they will stop you. They have stopped many a people in the parks.
They have such strict rules regarding weddings. Customer service is excellent but they will not take the day away from a paying bride and let an unofficial wedding happen.
I have dealt with Disney Fairy Tale weddings for 2 occasions.
They only allow 2 to 3 weddings per cruise depending on how many sea days and the length of the cruise. One wedding on Castaway Cay per cruise. They make each wedding custom to one bride. They will not allow 2 brides to see each other, they make you feel that you are the only bride that day. You pay for that service and they make sure you get it. I had a vow renewal in 2012 on The Magic and we chose to do it onboard on a sea day. I was the only one that day and then there was one CC wedding on the Friday.
Go to the wedding boards on this forum and ask, they will tell you.
I am not trying to make trouble, I just know how Disney is with their weddings. They will stop you on CC if you try to have a beach wedding you didn't plan and pay for thru Disney.
Their Best service is always given as we know. But if you try to pull of an unofficial wedding with things you suggested they will stop you.
Lurkyloo, who is on this board was married in Disney the same month my daughter had her Disney wedding wanted to meet up with a bride getting married the same day as her had to get all kinds of permission for them to be seen together in their wedding attire.
Disney takes their weddings seriously.
Yeah if you do this the the parks you can get ejected. But yes you can celebrate your anniversary and take pics. But a production with flowers and the like woukdbt be well tolerated most likely.

From what I understand, since we are doing everything "low key" it's not going to be a problem at all.

We are thinking about doing something similar, very low key, on our balcony. We wanted a vow renewal with us, our son, and my best friend. When I called and was quoted $3,000, I nearly had a heart attack. I asked what was included and was told, cake, flowers and music. LIVE music, the cast member emphasized. When I asked her if they were providing Kenny Chesney, she was not amused.

I am unsure this plan could possibly be identified as a wedding: no officiant, no witnesses. no formal wedding dress....
I'm sure as long as no one busts out with the ominous words "wedding" or "vow renewal" or "ceremony" or does anything that looks like one of these things, it will all be fine and dandy. If it is discreet and focused on love and commitment, I'm sure it will be acceptable. Disney does take these things as serious as brain surgery, though. My husband and I were married at Seabreeze Point/The Attic and had a private dessert party at Epcot. There was enough catering and security there you would have thought they were Secret Service. All over a few cannoli!

That being said, I did mention the words "vow renewal" but saying "no officiant/no guests just the two of us" and that we were doing it on the boat or CC (and I even said the words "non-Disney") and he did not seem to think that was a problem at all... I couldn't have been more honest about our intentions so I guess that they tolerate it as long as we don't make a show out of it.

Just remember that DCL policies can be a fluid thing. Keep your plans low key and any expectations low, as well. You have received a lot of good advice on this thread and the cabana thread. Just keep it very low key and enjoy your cruise.

I won't do anything more than what I said. :)

Expectations?

I just called DCL was put on hold for a LONG time while checking w supervisor. We are getting married in port and I asked about changing into our wedding attire after safety drill for dinner and the evening. Made it a point to say Bridal gown. Was told "it's your day - have a wonderful reception and evening"!

And is it a Disney wedding?

Update: Along the way we switched itineraries. We are now departing from Port Canaveral and getting on board the dream. Nov 30. 76 days to go!

So far, so good... I have found my dress... It's a real "wedding dress". Renewal will definitely happen on our balcony.

Now I need a beach dress to take our pictures on Castaway Cay. Let me tell you it's not a good season to shop summer dresses. Lol

Our room is 5E GTY. Fingers crossed for a very large balcony.

I will order a cake to be delivered in our stateroom.

I did not get a cabana. There was none available on my check-in date.

I booked Remy that night. I thought it would be the nicest way to celebrate.

Since we'll do it on the balcony, I have been thinking about ordering flowers in order to have a bouquet. Hopefully I can borrow one or two from the arrangement to use for our special moment. Does anybody know if it is possible to do so?

Here is another dilemma: should I do my hair or go to the hairdresser (how early can I get my hair done and for how much?) ? Not sure about this one since it's CC day, we'll go to the beach... Not sure it's worth the investment.
