The Hotel.
We stayed at the Hotel Cheyenne from the 6th to the 9th January and we were very impressed with the themeing of the outside of the hotel. The rooms were slightly small however but were adequate for 2 adults and 2 children. We were in the building closest to the park which meant the walk to the park was only 10 minutes which was nice.
Breakfast was continental with croissants, pains du chocolate, bread cheese, meat and fruit which was a buffet so there was plenty to eat and we saw plenty of people making lunch. It was a bit of a scrum to get the food and find a table and I would recommend an early sitting for breakfast.
We were on the half board option and because we wanted to eat in the evening we didn't eat in any of the restaurants in the park. We ate in Annette's Diner and the Chuck Wagon twice.
Annette's in my opinion was over-rated. It was very expensive at £49 for 2 adults and 2 children. The food was nice but warm not hot. A word of warning though, the vegetarian options are very limited . One burger or fish!
The Chuck Wagon had plenty of choice but once again the food was warm and not hot. The salads were nice and so were the puddings but the rest was indifferent. The vegetarian choice was better here.
The Parks.
The new rides were great. Tower of Terror and Buzz Lightyear were popular with us. My wife and son said Crush was horrible. Cinemagic, in my opinion, is worth the entrance fee alone. There was the usual scrum whenever any character appeared. Both the parades and candleabration were impressive.
Whether it was the poor exchange rate (1.29 Euro to the pound) or rising prices I found the shops to be very expensive. The winter sales started the day we left so we did manage to get some bargains.
I would recommend going to the train station shop for drinks and snacks. The prices are considerably lower than in the parks and the bag search didn't mind you taking them into the parks. The shop also sells wine and beer so you can have something to drink in your hotel room.
Getting there.
We drove from Somerset to DLP. 450 boring motorway miles! But it did mean we could "pop" into Belgium to get some cheap cigarettes.
Conclusions.
The good.
The look on my children's faces when they realised where we were. We had told them we were going for a weekend away but not where. They twigged finally when we drove into the main entrance.
The new rides.
The location of the hotel.
The parks were quiet so we managed plenty of rides and shows.
The bad.
The food was disappointing and the prices were high. The shop prices were high too.
The staff do their jobs but don't seem to embrace the "Disney Magic" as well as the Florida CM's.
Driving there. I've done it three times now and as my wife doesn't drive it's a long way so next time we are going to try the Eurostar.
Character meetings. I know this is a contentious issue and I don't want to flame but when my children get pushed and shoved out of the way by other children and their parents it annoys me.
