Important Warning About References to Fan Sites in Room Descriptions! UPDATE:Post #20

I am repeating the information I posted on another board here, for the benefit of all Disers, since the same warning would apply to any Dis reference in your room titles or descriptions.

I just got a visit from VMK_Bubbles telling me that I had a room description that mentioned "another site" and that I needed to change it.

I said, oh, ok, and sure, I would do that. Then I happened to wonder which room she was referring to, so I asked her. (As some of you might know, I have many rooms in another Fan Site ride; most of them with "_ Fan Site Ride" at the end of the descriptions.) She replied, "You know which one. Now go and change it." Then she left.

So I have been busy scrambling to check every single one of my rooms for any reference to the _Fan Site, and have changed a total of 24 room descriptions. (In the process, I lost my "Sleeping Beauty Castle" title that had been made before the dictionary change. )

What I changed them to is simply "Fan Ride". If VMK still considers that to be too much of a reference, I guess I'm in trouble.

Anyone who has a reference to Dis in their room title or description please take note of this! Go check your rooms and change them if need be.

I have had most of these room descriptions for over a year. It looks like VMK is really starting to get strict about this.

Sorry you had to go through changing the name of your rooms, but it is nice to know that VMK is getting stricter. Hope they come down hard on the taken thing too ... it drives me nuts

what i want to know is why on earth the word "dis" is in their dictionary (it is)

But, Dis is just a short form of Disney and can mean that instead of DIS.

As long as I don't say Dis site or specify that I mean anything in particular, I (and everyone else here) should be fine.

While I hope that is true, I would still be very cautious. I never had a problem with those room descriptions until now. Perhaps "VMK" and "Fan" are more of a target. I don't understand why VMK would not consider "Dis" to be just as much of a reference to other sites, because it's certainly understood and recognized in the game.

Probably a good idea to avoid the words "site" or "member". Some of my rooms simply had "Fan Site Ride" in their description, which could really mean any fan site, but I changed them nonetheless.

What bothered me most about it was the unnecessary rudeness on the part of VMK_Bubbles.

I've talked to VMK_Flight I believe a while back when i had "Dis Post Boy" in my signature and he said that Dis is fine but just leave it at that. Also people call me Dis all the time in the game and it has been fine. I really prefer Dis over "playa"

I apologize for going off topic, but while I can understand why VMK would remove "sleeping" from the dictionary, I think they should add "SleepingBeauty" (all one word) to the dictionary, sort of like they did with MerryChristmas. I don't see what that would hurt. Just a thought.

I think if she could have taken the time to tell you to remove something she surely could have taken the time to give which room it was since you weren't sure on it. I know there will be those that try to throw out reasons for her being this way but really there never ever is a reason to be rude to a player no matter who you are. Especially when you work for the game. They should be setting the examples to others.

Yes, I wanted to be sure to change that room first, so they would know I was cooperating. I had quite a bit of panic doing my rooms one by one and wondering if I had gotten to the room in question yet.

I bet you did...as would most people that would hear that. I know its hard to tell if someone is just being a smarty pants about things when its a chat but really when you have more then one room it is something that should have been said from the get go.

No one said you couldn't. You just can't put it in there along with anything refering to it as the website. There is nothing wrong with the word Dis itself since it could also mean Disney and not just this board. I don't have it in my sig but its because I have a sig that is basically taking up the whole space given.

Not to quibble, but "VMK Fan" could also simply mean someone who's a fan of VMK. But I wouldn't be surprised if those two words set off a "trigger" for VMK while "Dis Fan" (presently) does not. (Even though many players in VMK know what "Dis" refers to.)

What a surprise I got when I was looking at my rooms today.

My Sleeping Beauty Castle title is back to.....Sleeping Beauty Castle! Complete with the original description for the room.

That room was the one I had had the most difficulty changing the room info for yesterday, and I had to just erase everything and start over out of desperation. I had retitled it "Sleepy Beauty Castle" since "sleeping" is no longer allowed in the dictionary.

I did submit a suggestion for the dictionary to "Contact Us" yesterday, (SleepingBeauty; all one word), in which I explained my predicament. I wonder if it was done in response to that?

It just brings tears to my eyes to think that someone on the VMK staff would take the trouble to do this. I am overwhelmed with gratitude.
