Stay away from the Shell Station on Vineland near the outlets. They charge 2.00 MORE per gallon than anyother station in the area. My husband went in to fill the car and luckily noticed it was 5.59 just as he started so he paid for one gallon and then went and asked the clerk if there had been a mistake. The clerk said NO that is what we charge ....too bad. That is just highway robbery if you ask me. Even the Hess station on Disney property was only 3,48 a gallon .....oh and did i mention that this was for regular?

My husbnd mentioned it to a couple of customers who were about to fill up and we all went down the street and paid 3.51 at Hess. My husband said that they had the price posted but he thought it was an error because it is so high.

I know they do it near the air port and most people are aware but this place was kind of a shock.

Wow, good thing you noticed. We pay at least $4 a gallon here in CT but I was in Virginia last week and paid only $3.38. I brought some home with me but it is all gone now. :)

Aren't there law that put a cap on what they can charge (over what they paid per gallon)?

What a shady owner to charge THAT much!

No laws in Florida....my DH called the Attorney General and they said it is only price gouging when there is an emergency so the best we can do is let it be known to stay away. The owner was not apologetic even but nasty. I would not care if it was a few cents or even like 25 cents but as I said when the Hess Station at disney is over 2.00 less then you know this guy is a jerk.

How close is it to the airport? There are several gas stations near the airport that inflate their prices. They are trying to catch those who have to fill-up their rentals before returning them to the airport. There are a couple of threads over the the Transportation forum regarding rental agencies requiring customers to provide a gas receipt from a station close to the drop-off point.

And be aware that as of June 18th that a lot of stations and Visa have started placing a hold on your account of 125.00 when you slide your credit card at the pump (or a debit as a credit transaction). I plan on going in and telling them how much gas I want so they can slide my card for the exact amount instead of putting this HUGE hold on it or I'll be paying cash.

You have to look at what the stations are charging especially in that area.I've never noticed that shell station before but right there on 535 on the other side of I-4 there's a Chevron or Mobil that years ago was charging like $1.50 more per gallon than every other station,I always thought you had to be nuts to put gas there especially since most of the other gas stations in Orlando are even cheaper than a lot of other cities. But what was crazy is that 3-4 years ago they just stopped posting their prices which is insane, can you imagine how many people drive in to put gas and might not even check the prices,it just seems like robbery. There was a thread on this some time ago and someone mentioned that taxes in that area are very high which I could understand but as long as they're posting the prices on a big sign outside it should be enough to deter most people from putting gas there, but just not posting it and charging $5 a gallon is insane.

We were told that the WDW gas stations charge competitive prices so that CM's won't get gouged. Just an FYI. We've never had an issue with the stations on 192.

Maybe that particular station gets the people topping off before they return their rental cars? I would think it would be cheaper to pay the rental car rates (which tend to be high, but geez...).

I too have found the Hess on WDW property to be competitive for pricing and use that for filling up. There's also a gas station on World Center Drive just before the 417 ramp that I top the car off at before returning it. Definately going to have to pay more attention to prices now!

It's not close to the airport at all - about 17 miles away. This Shell station is on Vineland Road in Orlando across the road from the Marriott Village and sort of between Bahama Breeze (down the road one way) and the Premium Outlets (up the road the other way). That stretch of Vineland Ave. runs next to I-4 near the Lake Buena Vista area.

Passed by there on Wednesday.. Still open but not one customer there and a For Lease sign out front!

We have noticed this particular station for YEARS has always been sky high with their gas prices. Never could figure out how they managed to stay in business. Now it sounds like there is another station giving it a try. Glad we all know which stations to avoid.

Earlier this summer the podcast did a segment on gas prices around WDW. The Hess stations on property are definitely among the most fair.

I think the Shell station on Vineland was specifically mentioned as one to avoid. I drove past there the other night and it just LOOKED sketchy.

You should buy a subway sandwich at Disney, Pride rock is more expensive than anything it seems.

I have been doing various things to avoid the annoying "holds" placed by gas stations. One time I bought a Shell gasoline card and used it every time I had to fill up on the way down to WDW. Otherwise I would have been looking at a substantial credit/debit "hold" every time I got gas. (It wasn't clear to me whether this could be avoided by pre-paying inside.) Another time I just used cash for all my gasoline purchases. There are down sides to these tactics, of course, but to me they were still much preferable to blocking out my credit (or bank account) for extended periods.

Something that I noticed in Orlando is that several stations also offered discounts for cash sales over CC's. This should be in violation of their Visa/MC agreements, but they seem to get away with it; and you could save a few cents per gallon.

When we've stayed offsite in the past, I have found the Hess stations on WDW property are generally a decent place to fill up. The price is comparable or better than many offsite places, and you don't lose time driving around. Some of the worst places I've seen are also near the offsite car rental places, but I haven't used any offsite car rental places in a number of years. Most of the car rental places at MCO are onsite nowadays.

Where I live I've seen something similar; gas stations that are close to the highway ramps or have easy in/out charge more than ones which are off the main road or blocked by traffic lights/congested traffic.

There are smartphone aps now that will tell you where the least expensive gas is to be found. Time is money - so it may not be worth the drive on vacation especially to save a few cents - but sometimes driving one block can mean over $.20 difference per gallon.

If you like Shell, there is a station next to the big McD's on Sand Lake Road that charges pretty much what everyone else does. I use this one routinely but have learned to stay off of International Drive during certain hours. The traffic can be brutal.

I nearly got caught at this Shell station last week when we were staying at OKW and needed gas when we were on our way to the Florida Mall. As previously mentioned, there is no sign displaying prices but, luckily, I checked the price on the pump before going to prepay.
