Important Boards message!

We have had these board for close to 2 years now. For those of you who have been with us for a while you may remember when we couldn't keep more then 6 months worth of posts without having to cut them back.
The time has finally come when we do need to cut back on these boards. Our present database is over 2 Gigs in size with close to 3 million posts. It has become almost impossible to manage and back up.
I will probably do that this weekend. What I am considering at this point is leaving 15 months worth of posts on the trip planning boards, I like the idea of being able to go back and see what happend at "yearly" events and one years worth of posts on the "Just for fun" boards.
Those numbers are not written in stone and if anyone can come up with a strong reason to do it differently I will listen.
Those numbers apply to the "last post" on a thread not to the date the thread was originally started.
This pruning will affect total counts on all the boards. It may end up affecting post counts. If it does I apologize in advance but there's not really a lot we can do.

I hate having to do this!!!!

Seems fine Alex, thanks for the warning.
Is there anyway of retaining all trip reports? They are so much more personal and each one gives a valuable overview of those things in an Orlando trip we might do differently and those that become 'common and best practice' - a wealth of information for newbies and repeat visitors alike.

I have a couple of questions ....

I'm assuming by the fact that Simon has passed this post onto the UK Boards that you will not only be saving the US Trip Planning but also the UK Trip Planning Board for that amount of time?

Along the same lines, if you are saving the US Just For Fun Board will you be doing likewise with the UK Community Board?

I believe that I am like a number of others from the UK who don't tend to use the US Boards except on the odd occasion, there's more than enough here in our own small community to keep me occupied.

Additionally, I would agree with Dave that Trip Reports (on both Boards) would be important to keep for longer, I don't keep as up to date with these as I would like and as people spend so much time and effort on these I hope that you will consider retaining these for longer too.

Been to America to find out what's goin on since there's no reply or update here. Found these threads on the US Community Board- oddly, the initial thread doesn't seem to have been posted on the UK Community Board.

There may be another solution to the pruning problem. Someone has pointed me to a hack that "archives" old threads so they can still be accessed. Could we please stop bumping posts for now and if this doesn't work I will give you plenty of warning?
