well i'm taking my fiance and her parents (first timers) to the greatest place on earth the week of aug 16-23 being in the park 17-21. My plan had epcot on monday aug 18. my question is what impact will the opening of mission space have on attendance at epcot as well as all the other parks? will it bring lots of florida residents, will it bring people to only epcot and to only mission space making everything else less crowded? or does this mean i'm sharing the week with a million other potential mission space riders who tweak they're vacation to be there for the opening week.

Don't worry these openings of attractions always get pushed back. Remember how many years of push backs it took for "Test Track" to open. If for any reason the thing does open when they say it will the place will filled to the brim with people. Epcot has been an empty place for a long time now this should cause an increase in attendance that is much needed there.

Well M:S won't have the problem that Test Track has. Just read the article from Dave Marx at Passporter who toured the ride area two days ago and apparently there are many different pods that operate individually so if one breaks the rest can keep working.

The Imagineers apparently learned from the mistakes of TT.

All I can say is if youplan to try and be there 8/15 - make sure and hit the Fastpass machine first. I am guessing this will bring in everyone

Well, there will be people who go to Epcot just to say they rode M:S the first day it was open. There will probably be just as many people who will avoid Epcot that day because they will anticipate crowds.

August 15 is a Friday which is AK's EE day.

My total guess is that MK will still be busy as it's a Friday in the summer, but that Future World at Epcot will also be busy, with some spillover into WS.

MGM and AK probably will be the least crowded

It will bring my family and me there. :p

The opening of which you speak will be a "soft" opening, not the grand opening, so I wouldn't expect it to increase overall attendance during the week, and even if it did draw a bigger crowd, they would likely just be interested in that particular aspect of the park.

Also, another thing to realize is that schools in Florida have already begun their academic year by that point, which also decreases the level of attendance during the week. We were there during that time last year, and it was hot, but the crowds were very manageable!

Have a great time, and hope that your relatives enjoy themselves!

The local ABC affiliate in Central Florida said they were looking at a Fall opening when they reported from Epcot on AK's 5th anniversary.

I'll be there since I am only 30 minutes away.

I was wondering the same thing as far as crowds and such. I have my plane tickets and hotels all lined up. If I could I would move my trip back one week just to avoid the whole MS soft opening. But, I can't so we'll make the best of it and avoid Epcot that day for sure. Not that I think of it, I'll get Epcot out of the way before the 15th. I'm one of the few who will wait to get on MS when it slows down crowd wise. Our trip is Aug. 11th-18th.
