So WOW. I just got off the phone with my kids' new allergist. When we were there she mentioned new allergy testing and I requested ImmunoCAP because it doesn't require my Asthmatic DS12 & DD11 to drop their medication before testing. Also, I always suspected cross contamination was a problem in the skin tests because he came up positive to things I have never ever observed like dogs and cats. This new test is done to blood that was drawn so there is no chance of cross contamination like with the skin prick ones. Anyway, the new test showed DD allergic to nothing and DS was negative to ALL the indoor allergens the other allergy tests said he was positive. This includes dust mites, great after $8,000 in new floors, and corn smut, and my dog, and my cat. Turns out he is only allergic to Alternaria, which is linked to a great deal of Asthma. So on the one hand, holy cow I spent $8,000 I didn't have to spend on special floors I didn't need, but on the other hand YIPPEE, my kid is healthier than I thought. Overall it's good news, very good news!

Do you know if this method of allergy testing can be used on adults?

I really most likely need to get allergy shots, as my allergy medication really doesn't cut it, and hasn't for a long time.

Frankly, I've put it off because I hate the thought of having a million needles stuck in my back to see what I'm allergic to. If a blood draw analysis can do it instead, then I'm all for it!

That's an interesting question. I had the skin testing done and I came up negative for most everything except horses. I had a small reaction to that one yet never had a showed any signs of an allergy when near one :confused3.

Btw, the skin testing I had done was on my arm. It wasn't that bad and I was able to handle it (and I'm terrified of needles to begin with.)

Blood allergy testing is by far the easiest. It's so much less painful than the skin prick test. If you can have a blood test done, do it. It will be so much easier on you.
