Immigration.

My biggest problem with the language issue is the fact that people can take their permit test to DRIVE here in America, in a language other than english. Why is that a big deal? ALL OF OUR SIGNS ARE IN ENGLISH. Sure they may know that the big red one that's a weird shape means to hit the brakes and stop there, but what about all the other signs? How are you supposed to know what is going on traffic-wise if you cannot read the signs?

My father's girlfriend was born in Mexico. She came here legally about 8-9 years ago. She is very intelligent, and does not abuse the system in any way that I can tell. She supports herself and two children from a previous marriage. She went to college and hopes to go back once her children are a little older. She didn't know much english when she came, but she made an effort to try and learn english because she knew she wouldn't succeed here unless she did. Sometimes in her college classes she'd record the lectures because she wouldn't always know every word, so when she got home, she would listen to them over and over again to learn the words.

I do not care if people come to America legally. I understand it may be hard for them to get enough money to pass the test and all that, but it doesn't mean they should break all the rules to get in. That includes hopping borders, or having children here to stay. It's just wrong to do those things.

I'm just wondering, about the permit test for your liscense..
Have you ever seen it?
I mean, couldn't they, have the image, the english sign, but underneath it tell the person what it means in spanish. It would be like, visual memorization.

Actually, no. We have a dry land policy. If a cuban steps foot on dry land here, they can stay.

A friend of mine lived in cuba as a child, his parents won a lottery type thing to come to america free. Most come illegally as stow-aways or something like that.

:O I see.
Thanks :)

There is a reason they are called ILLEGAL immigrants. It is because they are here ILLEGALLY, which means they are breaking the law. They should not get any benefits from the U.S.

I realize that if all of them are deported that the work force will take a big hit. That's why they were offered the deal in that bill that was defeated in Congress. They would have to pay a fine, learn english, and become citizens within a certain amount of time. A lot of people just don't want them to be here because they are illegals. However, I have no problem with them being here if they make an effort to learn even a little bit of english and become citizens. They can still speak their language and keep their cultural values, but they need to adapt at least a little bit to our values here in America. If they don't comply, they should be sent back to Mexico. I mean, come on. When you're in America, you wave an american flag at your home, NOT a mexican flag. It's like coming to my house, pooping on my kitchen table, and saying "What are you gonna cook next?"

I'm french. I'll fly a french flag if I want to.
I'm irish. I'll fly that flag right next to my french one.

And I'll be damned if you can tell me otherwise.

Because we're in america. you can burn our flag. we are that free.

I honestly couldn't care less if someone had a mexican flag in their home, or on their home, or hell, they can carry it in a parade for all I care.

Saying someone can't fly a mexican flag is undermining everything this country says it stands for.

We can have flags in our home. I have no problem with it but it would be nice if they flew an American Flag right along with it.

I don't give a crap what flag you are flying.
It's a flag.

This country was built by immigrants. No one here can say that they're pure blooded american. yeah, sure, I'm like 1/8 native alaskan, but I'm 7/8 everything else. I don't believe that anyone should be denied entry to our country, but I believe they should be....encouraged to become legal citizens.

The US citizenship test costs $675.00. Thats wrong. It should be free. It should be easier to become a citizen. A lot of the immigrants come over with the clothes on their back. They are paid less than minimum wage, and send most of it back to their families in Mexico. How are they supposed to get that kind of money?

The fence is hands down the STUPIDEST idea I've EVER seen.

About their language. I would never ask someone to turn their back on their heritage. Spanish is their culture. I was recently in a nasty debate about making a rule saying the pledge of allegiance only said in English. Thats wrong. If someone cares enough about my country to WANT to be here, to FIGHT to be here, and then once they're here, to pledge their allegiance to MY flag, I don't care what language they're saying it in. Its that they're saying it that matters.

Someone needs to speak english to live in this country, for their own good. and most of them will learn it. they have to, to take the test. It doesn't bother me if someone is speaking spanish. I'm not that nosey to care what they're talking about. But Life here is going to be 100 times harder for someone who doesn't understand and speak english.

This caught my eye as I was reading the thread..I agree that the cost of the test is too high and that it should be easier to get here LEGALLY, but I have to tell you something about the flag bit. Did you hear that thing maybe three or four weeks ago about that town near the border where the illgals ripped down our flag, hung up the Mexican one, and let ours drift upside down? That attitude, though not present in everyone, exists, and in my opinion, is downright wrong! Some of them don't love the country and culture. My belief is that if you want to come over, there should be some effort at assimilation. I said previously that that no longer exists. I am not saying that they should give up their culture, but there has to be a balance..this is not an extension of Mexico.

No, illegals shouldn't get benefits, but if they have a child..the least our government can do is try to help the child get food and medical coverage.

___________

About the flag, I don't really care at all what flag they fly or if it's outside there home, or in.

im Hispanic, I live in puerto rico and i hate it when people from the dominican republic illegaly immigrate here, there will be no place for us here! just like miami is being bombarded with cubans, and california is being bombarded with mexicans. ( no offense to any, i am after all hispanic too)

That attitude is wrong. And like I said earlier, only a handful of the thousands of illegals think that way. A lot of them, the majority of them, are grateful to be here. So are you going to deport everyone for a few extremists? Might as well git rid of all the liberals because of the couple flag burners stuck in here and there. :confused3

haha sparx is funny :lmao:

For example, today we had a Mexcian Family come into the office to apply for medicaid for their children. They were illegal. We had to get translators for them because they didn't speak a work of English.

Sorry, but that just annoys me.
