My biggest problem with the language issue is the fact that people can take their permit test to DRIVE here in America, in a language other than english. Why is that a big deal? ALL OF OUR SIGNS ARE IN ENGLISH. Sure they may know that the big red one that's a weird shape means to hit the brakes and stop there, but what about all the other signs? How are you supposed to know what is going on traffic-wise if you cannot read the signs?
My father's girlfriend was born in Mexico. She came here legally about 8-9 years ago. She is very intelligent, and does not abuse the system in any way that I can tell. She supports herself and two children from a previous marriage. She went to college and hopes to go back once her children are a little older. She didn't know much english when she came, but she made an effort to try and learn english because she knew she wouldn't succeed here unless she did. Sometimes in her college classes she'd record the lectures because she wouldn't always know every word, so when she got home, she would listen to them over and over again to learn the words.
I do not care if people come to America legally. I understand it may be hard for them to get enough money to pass the test and all that, but it doesn't mean they should break all the rules to get in. That includes hopping borders, or having children here to stay. It's just wrong to do those things.
I'm just wondering, about the permit test for your liscense..
Have you ever seen it?
I mean, couldn't they, have the image, the english sign, but underneath it tell the person what it means in spanish. It would be like, visual memorization.
