Immigration.

okay.
i see what you meant.

but i don't particually agree.
it isn't the childs fault that there parents were illegal immigrants and that they were born in this country.
that child shouldn't be deported.
in no way were they at fault.

But what should happen to the child? I know that it wasn't their fault, but what are they supposed to do with it? They can't take it from the parent; that would be wrong.

GRRRR. I HATE that. It's America. We speak English. Americans can't go to Mexico and get special treatment, so why should Mexicans get it here? I'm completely okay with it if it's done legally, but if it's illegal, forget it. No way. I was at a McDonalds in Washington, DC the other day, and I couldn't even understand the cashier. I was just like RAWR. You don't see Americans illegally going to Mexico and getting jobs there, so why should they do that to us? And again, if it's legal, that's one thing. It's OKAY. But if they hop the border, and don't want to do it our way, they are not welcome.

::yes:: I totally agree with you on that and the thing is...its ONLY Spanish. There are so many other languages in the U.S. And there is a thread about fast food restaurants and the cashiers there somewhere on the CB. Its a huge problem!

Yes, i agree that anyone coming here legally, who respects our country should be able to with no cost. All people should have a right to the same basic nessecities. Sadly, that is not the way it works. How is our government going to be able to provide these nessecities to the growing number of incoming people? There needs be money, and a lot of it. The healthcare workers/teachers/etc. need to be paid. Our country is filling up quickly, and obviously i dont even need to mention how harmful illegal immigrants are in the mix of all this.

btw.. hi! i'm katie i'm new here :cutie:

why can't they take it from the parent?

the parents knew it was wrong to move to the country illegally and have children here, but still did it anyway.

they made their bed and now they need to lie in it.

I see where you're coming from. But now, why does the child deserve to be taken from the parent?

^I wouldn't want to be taken away from my parents if they were illegal.

Lets not turn this into an argument...

People don't go to Mexico, because the economy sucks. There is a reason, that they are going across the border to live in another country.

And yes, you do live in America. But there is more than one culture there. People speak different languages in your country, whether you are aware of it or not. Shampoo bottles, have more than one language on them.
And why is it a big deal that they have the option for spanish on it? You're not going to press it, it's not in your way.
Countries, usually have more than one official language (I don't know if Spanish is official in the US, but it's definately used there) and not everybody is going to speak english.
I live in Canada, I see people everyday who speak French, Chinese, Japanese, and other foreign languages that I am not familiar with (minus french, I understand that). I have to deal with it, you act as though, it's a problem that these people don't speak YOUR language.

i agree with that completely
as long as the people speaking the language besides english (mostly spanish) also speak english. And as long as english is offered as a choice on those phone messages and stuff. i havent come across it myself, but that would bother me if english was not an option.

Have you ever tried to learn another language? It isn't poured into your head as soon as you hop the border. It takes time to learn it. Even legally.

I agree with whoever said the fence is the stupidest thing I've ever heard about. How the heck is a fence, supposed to keep illegals out? Bush, must have been high when he thought of this idea. He wants the MEXICANS to make the fence, THEN go back over to their country. And the fence is supposed to be part wooden, part like chicken wire stuff. Riiight, that's going to stop our immagration problem.

I do agree that the naturalization process should be free.

CJ and imabrat, most illegals aren't even deported, so most likely the child would be living here, with their parents, with absolutely no government help, and no legal income. That's a great life for a child to go through.

To everyone against illegal immigration, I pose a question.

What about cubans? Should we close our doors to them too?

Shelby, of course I'd say no, our doors are always open to everyone.

BUT, the illegals who come over here could show some respect to this country. It doesn't bother me if they come over here and actually TRY to change and try to get jobs and try to learn a few things like our language, etc. It doesn't even bother me when people come over here, have a child, and use the government help on the CHILD and not themselves. And I know not all illegals are disrespecting this country, but I didn't know what other way to put it.

^Aren't they already closed? :confused3 How do they come here?

Actually, no. We have a dry land policy. If a cuban steps foot on dry land here, they can stay.

A friend of mine lived in cuba as a child, his parents won a lottery type thing to come to america free. Most come illegally as stow-aways or something like that.

Very very few actually abuse the system, as compared to the numbers who are honest, hard working people. But the three or four out of every hundred that do, are ruining our immigration policies for everyone.

Immigrants keep my economy a float. They work in the nurseries, which is the only real thing thats keeping my community around anymore. If you took them away, my community would go under.

Like I said, of course the illegals are mostly hard working people just trying to escape the mexican poverty. But like you said, those few just ruin it.

Maybe it's just because of where I work, but I see quite a few illegals collecting government money, which I'm not saying is a bad thing.

i dont really like it bc like if we talk about our parents jobs
and paying tax's and stuff in class and then u have people talking about how there parents dont work and dont have to pay bills and stuff its really anoying sorry but its true

but if thats to CONFUSESING for u ppl then i will sum it up
i dont really care about them as long as they are nice pay bills and have a job :)

My biggest problem with the language issue is the fact that people can take their permit test to DRIVE here in America, in a language other than english. Why is that a big deal? ALL OF OUR SIGNS ARE IN ENGLISH. Sure they may know that the big red one that's a weird shape means to hit the brakes and stop there, but what about all the other signs? How are you supposed to know what is going on traffic-wise if you cannot read the signs?

My father's girlfriend was born in Mexico. She came here legally about 8-9 years ago. She is very intelligent, and does not abuse the system in any way that I can tell. She supports herself and two children from a previous marriage. She went to college and hopes to go back once her children are a little older. She didn't know much english when she came, but she made an effort to try and learn english because she knew she wouldn't succeed here unless she did. Sometimes in her college classes she'd record the lectures because she wouldn't always know every word, so when she got home, she would listen to them over and over again to learn the words.

I do not care if people come to America legally. I understand it may be hard for them to get enough money to pass the test and all that, but it doesn't mean they should break all the rules to get in. That includes hopping borders, or having children here to stay. It's just wrong to do those things.

Sure learning another language is hard, but I think the problem is that peole that refuse to learn English are beign given jobs where they should probably know the language. If you don't know English so well, get a job where you don't have to talk to the public like a cashier, etc.

Also, if you're first language is not english, and you are in school, I understand it must be hard, but you don't need to be obnoixous about it. There is a huge population of spanish-speaking students in my school, which is not a problem except for those kids that feel like rules don't apply to them, and they can be loud and rude as long as they are speaking their own language.. Well duh just because you're being rude in spanish doesn't make it ok because nobody knows what you're saying!
