Hi, everyone! I (finally) booked my cruise last night, so I thought I'd get the excitement going with a pre-trip report! I'm so excited! The cast of characters is as follows:

Me: Imaginationsetfree. 26 years old and lover of all things Disney. :wave2:

And...that's it! The idea for this solo trip has evolved over quite some time, so I'm so excited that I'm actually booked and planning everything! I took my first solo trip to Disney World last year - I decided that after having a pretty tough year that I needed a chance to get away from everyday life. So, I took a glorious two week trip to Disney World. I was a little apprehensive at first, but I couldn't have been happier that I did it. I loved doing what I wanted, whenever I wanted! It was exactly what I needed. Once I got back, I started daydreaming about my next Disney trip (hey, it's the only thing that can get me through my post-Disney blues!).

Originally, my sister (who is a former cast member and came with me a few years ago on my first Disney trip in 15 years) and I had tossed up the idea of doing a land and sea Disney vacation sometime in 2010. We had talked about it, but it ended up not working out. I had done a lot of cruise research, so I still considered doing it. I was a little more apprehensive about cruising alone - I wasn't sure if that was going a little too far out of my comfort zone by doing it. But I thought a lot about my previous solo trip, and also had a good conversation with a friend who has done TONS of solo travelling. His basic advice was "If you really want to do something, you have to be willing to do it yourself. It's the only way you will truly get to see and do everything you want in life."

I took his advice, and started "pre-planning" my Disney cruise solo trip. I did a lot of research, and finally decided that (a) I wanted to travel sometime during the winter (because the Caribbean is so much more appealing when it's freezing cold!) and (b) that I wanted to take the Western Caribbean cruise. Going on that, I decided on the February 20, 2010 Western Caribbean cruise. I also decided that I wanted to take a week following the cruise, and spend it in Disney World. (hey, if I'm travelling solo, I want to do EVERYTHING!)

The next challenge was facing the fact that I knew exactly what I wanted, but had to wait to book. My work has us "bid" for time off, meaning that I had to wait to be sure my time off would be approved before I could cast anything in stone. I am NOT a patient person, so I tried my hardest to wait while in the meantime keeping myself occupied reading the trip reports here. :rolleyes1

Finally, I got the glorious email from work - PTO bidding had opened up, and before I knew it, I had my time off for the cruise approved! I have to wait a bit longer before I find out if the week after the cruise is approved, but I decided that I would take the cruise regardless of whether or not I can take the week in WDW afterwards. I emailed a TA and before I knew it, I was booked! February 20, Western Caribbean, cat. 12 stateroom. Wheeeeeeeee!!!!!! :cool1:

So, now that the big planning/booking is out of the way, there's lots of little planning still to do. Here's what's coming up:

Palo reservation: Another bit of overcoming the "should I do ____ as a solo traveler?" I was a bit concerned that the atmosphere of Palo would be a bit too sophisticated and romantic for me alone. After thinking (and asking the advice of some very wise Dis-ers!), I decided that if I can get a reservation I'm going to go for it. A solo trip is not for deciding whether or not you should do something - it's for DOING what you want! :thumbsup2

Shore excursions:

Key West: no plans to book anything here - I want to do some sightseeing, but it's all stuff I can do on my own. I plan to visit the Southernmost Point, the Key West Lighthouse and Keeper's Quarters Museum (I love lighthouses), and also plan on stopping in to the Hard Rock Cafe to add a pin to my collection.

Cozumel: I'm tossing up a few ideas here. I started thinking about XCaret, but decided against it. Now I'm thinking about just doing the beach break and a little shopping. I'm thinking it would be nice to get off the ship for a bit any enjoy the beach, but also get back to the ship early enough to enjoy it during the slower time.

Grand Cayman Island: Dolphin extreme swim.

Castaway Cay: Cataway Cay 5k (I'm a new runner, working through a "Couch to 5k" program), and then just looking to relax -chill out at Serenity Bay, get float rental, etc.

Thanks for everyone who's still reading! Stay tuned to find out if I get all my Palo/Shore excursions booked, and if I end up with week 2 in WDW!

YOU ARE SO BRAVE! Im such a loser I can't even eat alone in a restaurant, I always get it to go! But I can see how a solo trip would be awesome because there would be no one to consult with and do the whole "well what do you want to do, etc." You get to make all the decisions! I hope you have a magical trip and keep us all updated!

You go girl! :yay:
I would LOVE to do a solo trip... I am a single mom, and LOVE my DSs to death, however... a tropical solo getaway would be a dream!!! I wish I could sneak away as long as you are... and that particular cruise would be perfect... as my bday is on Feb 21st!!
Keep us up to date... I can't wait to hear how it all goes!!! :thumbsup2

Yay!:cheer2: Have a great time planning! I will be doing a transatlantic solo in 2011 - still awhile to go but I am so excited! I agree with your friend - good advice - can't wait on other people to do the things you want to do in life - just go for it!:thumbsup2

Hello, again! Thanks for all the comments - this is my first trip report so I really enjoy reading them!

A few updates from my last post:

I called today and booked the Hyatt Regency MCO using one of the online stay certificates - $135 + $6 shipping = not bad at all! I'm REALLY excited for this hotel - it looks so nice, and you really can't beat the convenience of staying right at the airport. *Side note - to anyone who's stayed there the night before their cruise before, is it true you can check in for your cruise there and get a #2 boarding pass?*

In other updates, my shore excursion plans have changed as well (hey a perk to going solo is I can be as A.D.D as I want! :)). I'm still going to do the dolphin swim, but I'm going to do it at Dolphinaris in Cozumel instead. In Grand Cayman, I'm going to do the Island Tour (I'm eagerly anticipating going to "hell" lolz), and snorkeling with the stingrays.

I also decided that I'm going to try to add Palo brunch to my schedule as well - it seems soooo amazing! I can't wait until next Saturday (at midnight!) when I can book all this stuff!

Lastly, I'm strongly debating on what to do for the 2nd week. I found out at work this week that the next batch of time off requests won't open up until mid-January. UGH! So, I'm stuck with the dilemna that if I wait for the PTO to open up and get it, I'll have missed the "Buy _, get _ free deal," which was a large part of my considering the week after. I've never stayed on Disney property before, so this is a big deal to me. The other thing I can do is book the room, and lose the $100 if I can't get the week off. It would suck to lose the $100 to cancel, but I honestly think it would suck more to wait all the way until January to find out if I can book, and then end up paying a good chunk more because I missed the deal. So I have a bit more time to decide on that, but ultimately, that's what I'm leaning more towards.

That's all for this update! Next up: making my final payment this week, and signing on at midnight to book Palo and shore excursions! :yay: Can't wait to update you!

You go girl! :yay:

Oh, yeah! I totally agree! Love the kids and hubster, but wow! A whole WEEK? ALONE? I am not sure I would even know how to act! :lmao:

You are going to have a blast and I can't wait to hear all about it! :cheer2:

So, just to keep my fabulous readers updated, I decided to take the chance and book week 2 at Disney World. All in all, I decided that I'd rather lose the $100 to cancel if I can't get the time off than wait it out and not be able to afford it.

So, I am now booked into the All Star Music resort from 2/27/10-3/6/10. With the good deals going on now, I was tempted to do a moderate, but even though the mods are the better value (3 nights free instead of 2), the values ultimately are cheaper - and every dollar saved is another dollar to spend at Disney! I also like the theming of Music - I put in a request for the Broadway section because I am a huge musical theater nerd, and the theming of that building just screams my name - let's hope Disney comes through for me!

I also made my ADRs for my trip as well (after a week of fabulous cruise eating, why stop there?)

Arrival day (Saturday): lunch at Raglan Road - my first time eating there (I spent six weeks in Ireland this year, so it felt appropriate to visit the Irish pub)

Sunday: lunch at Le Cellier - this is a MUST for every trip I have to Disney.

Monday: lunch at Chefs de France - first time eating here as well (during my six week trip to Ireland, I did spend one weekend in Paris, so I thought I'd keep the nostalgia going)

Tuesday: Spirir of Aloha luau dinner - this is something I regretted missing on my last trip. I've done it before and absolutely loved it

Wednesday: breakfast at the Grand Floridian Cafe - another first for me. I love the atmosphere at the GF, so I thought it would be a great way to start off a Magic Kingdom morning

Thursday: lunch at Biergarten - yet another first for me

Friday: dinner at Coral Reef - this is a return visit for me, but I LOVE this place - both for food and atmosphere.

Can you tell I REALLY like Epcot? :rotfl2:

I can make Palo/shore excursion ressies tomorrow!!!!!

So, someone must have sent a little pixie dust my way, because I not only got EVERYTHING I wanted, but I got everything on the days I wanted as well!! :cool1:

Here are my booked cruise plans (aaaaah! I'm so excited!)

Palo brunch: 1st @ sea day (Monday, 11:30am)
Cozumel: Dolphin swim at Dolphinaris
Grand Cayman: Island Tour and Snorkeling with stingrays
Palo dinner: 2nd @ sea day (Thursday, 8:00pm)
Castaway Cay: float and bike rental

Well, now there's not a whole lot left to do but wait! Less than 90 days to go!!!

Sounds like you're going to have an amazing trip!!! I LOVE Raglan Road. I think the building itself it gorgeous inside and the food...yummmmmm. ESPECIALLY the Scallop Forrest. Oh gosh...so good!! :goodvibes

So, now that I am 35 days away from my trip (:yay:), I thought I would update my PTR with my Disney plans. I LOVE planning Disney trips - to me, planning is half the fun! I don't always stick to my plans, but it's so much fun to just sit and plan my days out. For this trip, my general plan is to spend the morning in one park, take a break after lunch (which will probably consist of a nap or a dip in the pool), and then spend the evening in another park, followed by EMHs. This is my first on-property stay, so EMHs are a big deal to me! The plan for the week is as follows:

Saturday: Disembark cruise, pick up my rental car from Budget, and head to WDW. I don't have a lot of plans as to which park to go to first or anything - the idea of the day is a "best of Disney day." I plan to hit whatever parks strike my fancy, and only ride my favorites. I'm thinking of it as a teaser for the week. :) I do have an ADR at Raglan Road (which I'm SUPER excited for!!), and plan to end the day watching Wishes. Although Wishes isn't my favorite of the firework shows, it's become a must to end my first day at Disney watching it - there's just something so magical about watching the fireworks over the castle and knowing you still have a whole week of magic ahead of you!

Sunday: I'll start my day in Animal Kingdom (my goal is to make it to the rope drop ceremony), and then take a quick detour to Epcot for lunch at Le Cellier. After my afternoon break, I'll head to DHS, being sure to catch Fantasmic. After that, it's EMH at the Magic Kingdom! (And yes, that is all 4 parks in one day! Woo hoo!)

Monday: This is the one day that I don't plan to change parks midday. This is my Epcot day. I lovelovelove Epcot, and could probably spend an entire week's vacation just in the World Showcase. LOL. I plan on having lunch at Chefs de France. I do plan, though, to head over to DHS for EMHs.

Tuesday: This is the day I've granted as my "day off." The plan is to relax and just soak up some Disney goodness without all the craziness of the parks. I have a late breakfast booked at Kouzzina, so I can sleep in before going there. I plan to spend the rest of the day relaxing by the pool, and possibly exploring some resorts. I also have the Luau booked at the Poly at 8pm.

Wednesday: I have an early ADR for breakfast at The Grand Floridian Cafe. This is also my way of making sure I can make it to rope drop at the Magic Kingdom (I've never seen the ceremony there before!) I'll spend the morning in the Magic Kingdom, and after my break, I'll spend the afternoon at Animal Kingdom. Animal Kingdom is also having EMHs that night, so I plan to stay for those, and then head to Epcot for Illuminations!

Thursday: I'll spend the morning at Epcot, and then spend the afternoon at DHS. I have an ADR for dinner at Mama Melrose, and plan to stay for Fantasmic. I'm also going to take in a midnight showing of Alice in Wonderland, since that's the night it opens - SO excited!

Friday: I plan to sleep in a bit, and then have another "Best of Disney" day, hitting all my favorites one last time. I have a dinner ADR at Coral Reef, and then I will watch Illuminations and enjoy some EMHs at Epcot.

Saturday: Try not to cry as I head home! LOL

Whew! I seriously cannot wait for this vacation!

You'll have so much fun!

We'll be on the same cruise. The 20 or so of us. Hopefully we'll see you at some point in time.

Have a great time...I should do this for Christmas next year instead of getting pulled in eveyr direction!

Hope you have a really great trip.

I took the plunge with a solo WDW trip in December (loved it!) and am going on my first cruise in October (but I am taking my parents).

Even though I loved my solo land trip, I am having difficultly taking the plunge to book a solo sea trip.

I am interested in seeing how you enjoy cruising solo since it is something I'm thinking of doing. I just need to get up my courage.

I just wish i could be as brave as you. All my friends got married and couldn't join me to any of the Disney fun. I soooo wanna go the WDW and the DCL. But never did anything alone. And now...i'm just hanging not knowing what to do.:confused3
