I'm wondering what the best method of paying will be.

I am from Canada, and I'm wondering what kind of currency to bring to Disneyland. Is it better to put everything on a credit card? Are traveller's cheques accepted at Disneyland? Should we bring some American currency?

Any advice?

I've made 2 trips to Disneyland this year. I put most things on my credit card and use my debit card to withdraw cash from a bank machine. I've found that our U.S. friends don't use their debit cards the way we do (for everything!) and most of their machines aren't compatible for debit transactions at the till. The bank machines though, are very good and all have "plus" or "accell" available to them. Disneyland does take travellers cheques but I'm not sure how easy they are to use there and so I've just found US cash to be the simplest thing.

It is best, IMO, to use a credit card for most purchases it is easy, no worry about lost cash, all travel expenses are in one place. But you will deffiently need some cash for the mobile food charts (popcorn, ice cream, churros, soda etc). since these places do not accept credit cards.


I usually bring about $20 per day cash for things like this but usually only spend about $10 per day. I put everything else on a credit card.

I don't have credit cards, and plan to put the bulk of my money into travellers checks. I personally hate them, and if I had a cc, would use that instead. I am only going to bring a small amount of cash on me, as i am on a strict budget and terrified of losing it! I know that most hotels will cash a travellers check too, so I figure I can always cash 20-50 here and there as I need it! I remember from 6-7 yrs ago that some stores are reluctant to take travellers checks because of so much fraud these days. So I just plan to cash them where I can, but always have cash on me too.

My last trip to WDW, I used my debit card for just about everything. It's nice that almost every food vendor takes debit cards now. I was hoping that DL would be much the same - I'm trying to keep my trip credit card free (except for hotel, flight and rental car - that's enough charging).

I am also from Canada and I will be bringing my Visa but it will only be used in an emergency. Be careful, and read the small print. My credit card charges me $5.00 for every US transaction. I do not know if all credit cards do this but it could really add up.

Just wanted to let you know I had NO troubles with my travellers checks at all. I brought photo id with me, and was rarely asked for it. I have a debit/credit card (US debit card that has the mastercard logo - so can be used both ways) that I put 50 bucks on to use for some stuff. It came in handy to swipe at the lockers in the park and things like that.

I use Visa everywhere that accepts it. I bring along $80-100 USD in change to spend for cab, counter service food, food stands, tips, incidentals, etc. I also take along $200 USD in travellers' cheques. This system has worked very well for me every year we do Disney. If I lose one thing, I have a back-up.
