Has anyone in your family or group ever said or done something at WDW so profoundly stupid, dumb, ignorant or embarassing that you pretended not to know them?

For example,
My DD's grandfather, while walking through World Showcase and approaching Morocco, proclaimed loudly, "I don't know why they would ever make this da*n dirty country an attraction. It's a filthy country full of da*n filthy people!" And he repeated himself, loudly, for the next 10 minutes. I was mortified. :sad2:

This hasn't really happened to us, but there is a thread about funny things people have heard in the parks.

Yes, that's a great thread! I admit this one is similar, but I meant it to be more about things that people in your own family or party have said or done.

This would closely resemble my father, maybe not about a country, but the "words" flow like you don't know.

I usually embarass my group, by dancing, singing, etc.

Well, it wasn't at Disney World but on the Disney Cruise Line. My mother-in-law, after watching Mickey parading around the dinner restaurant with all of the servers and all of the kids, turns around and says "just who plays Mickey?" Loudly. In front of the kids.

I'm the Disney freak. My husband is middle of the road. I think his chin hit the floor before mine did. I recomposed myself and said "no one plays Mickey. There's only one Mickey like there's only one Santa Claus, Easter Bunny and Tooth Fairy".

My dad did 2 things on our last trip that got me. First, we had been waiting 40 minutes for a bus to Ft W, going to TE for breakfast (or so we hoped). My dad finally says, the very next bus that goes by, he's was going to stop it. So here comes a bus and my dad walks out into the road and stands in the way so the driver HAD to stop. I thought he was going to be asked to leave for sure. 2 days later, our last day at WDW, we wanted to go see the Narnia exhibit, as it was to open that day. The CM's wouldn't let us in because of a press event so my dad, who is 63 mind you, says loudly "this has been the worst trip EVER!" The CM just walked up to him, put her arm around him and said "aw, what's the matter?" Gotta love those cm's!
My dad took us when we were kids in 1975 on our first visit to WDW and he has since met me & my family on several of our trips, so he must have really been disappointed in some of the things we experienced on the trip last dec.

I like this thread, it's different enough from the other I think. The other is more about what you have heard, this is about a more personal experience!

While on a trip to DL, I was walking to get back to my family after having to go and get something for my DS, right beside a popcorn cart that had a line of people trying to get popcorn before the start of the parade, my weak ankle gives out and I end up flying and rolling across the ground, I jump off and am asked if I am ok, people staring at me I say yes, needless to say that day I was the most embrassing person I have ever know and did not want to know myself at that point. Talk about embrassed. :confused3

I was the stupid one. My parents took us for our 1st trip when I was 13. Toon Town opened when we were there, but it was Mickey's Birthday Party or something like that originally. I was walking along and saw a boy about my age that I just couldn't take my eyes off of. We passed each other and I turned my head and was looking backwards while walking forwards. I walked into a street sign pole! I hit it so hard I fell down! And the cute boy saw me fall! :lmao:

My Dad and I like to act silly in WDW. Whenever we see someone videoing something, my dad always jumps into the background of their shot and pulls really weird faces. :rotfl:

Also, when we're on Thunder Mountain, we like to make Indian noises throughout the tunnels! We think it's so funny when everyone is turning around to see who that was!

In ToT, as we're falling down 13 stories in the dark, my Dad enjoys doing an evil, booming "Mwahahaha" type laughter. Most people think it's just part of the ride! :p

:rolleyes1 :rotfl:
Keep em coming!!!!!! LOL!!!

Sounds like the kind of thing that always happened to me when I was young, I didn't need my brother or sisters to embarass me, I always did it myself.

That is not very nice. :sad2: Why would you want to ruin someones video?

I was in line at the MK gate a year or so back near the front with my niece who was 10 at the time. She was watching people put their fingers in the biometrics machine when she looks at me and asks, "does it hurt?" Now she's a smart kid who absolutely knows better so without missing a beat I say "yes, it's quite painful." A woman right behind us almost spit out her coffee she was laughing so hard, and my niece just gave me that "oh my gawd-you're so embarassing" eye roll that only a kid can do.

I'm the Disney nut in our family - followed closely by my kids and DH, but nonetheless, I'm "the one." On one fateful trip back in '96 (pre-kids), DH and I were riding BTMRR with my in-laws....I got the very last seat, which is awesome!, and I just cracked up throughout the whole ride! My DH at least was fairly well embarrassed; not sure about the in-laws, since my MIL hates coasters of any kind and I don't know that she even took her head out of my FIL's arm!

I'm certain I'll do something on our next trip in September to embarrass the boys! Not that I'll be trying, but when you reach the age of 40, it becomes all about making the most of life - thoroughly enjoying it - and has absolutely nothing to do with what anyone else thinks! :p Besides, what happens in Disney World, stays in Disney World....!

YUP...I embarrassed myself! Our 1st trip, a few weeks ago at AK on Mother's Day! it's after the pararde and we're heading over to Everest to ride it again before we leave (even though my dh was very hot and tired and wanted to leave) I told him it's Mother's Day and Richie (my ds) and I are riding it again whether my dh liked it or not. He agreed and as we got closer he's says well I'm gonna ride ti too then..and smiled. Standby was only 20 minutes. I say to dh "who's goin' 1st, me or you?" He's says to me "go ahead since it's Mother's Day" I yelp with delight and my ds (age 7) takes off for the entrance I run after him and trip on the little path between the FP machines and the entrance and go flying through the air and then as if I was sliding into homebase, arms stretched out and everything I hit the ground-SMACK!!!! In like 2 seconds I have 3 CM's and other bystanders next to me asking me if I'm OK and I'm blushing like an idiot, saying I'm fine, wanting them to just leave me alone so I can get on the darn Everest-LOL!! I did end up hurting 1 knee and scraped up and bruised my palms pretty good. We get off the ride and dh declares what an idiot I looked like, he said 1 second he saw me and the next second I'd disappeared....we all got a good laugh, but boy did my knee hurt by the next day! :rotfl:

These are great! Keep 'em coming!

My mother has always, since I can remember, at every theme park or carnival we have been to, "practiced" screaming in line. And not only for roller coasters, mind you... the woman will scream her lungs out in line for rides such as It's a Small World.

When I was about 12, we were in line for Rosie's for lunch and my dad told my mom, brother, and me to go get napkins/etc. and find a table. We sat down and saw him leave the line with a tray full of food. He was looking around for us as we were waiving our hands in the air and as he looked to the left he ran straight into those huge poles. Food went flying everywhere!

Great thing is...last year he started working as a manager at MGM and we always tease him to watch out for those poles.

yeah, this would be me!!! :cool1:

My son and I went back in 1989 (he was 11 at the time). While we were waiting to go into the show at the American Pavilion at Epcot, there was a group of singers that entertained you. There were a TON of people waiting for the show and a number of people, including my son and me, were sitting on the floor. One of the singers came over and knelt down and took my hand and started singing a song (I can't really remember but it was some kind of song like "Oh, Susanna" where you can imagine getting up doing some kind of silly dance jig). For some reason, I thought that he was going to try to get me up to dance or something with him and I just kept saying to myself in my head, "I'm not going, I'm not going, I'm not going". Well, when he started to stand back up, I guess I had a death grip on his hand (all the while repeating my brain mantra of "I'm not going", etc.) and since he wasn't expecting any resistance, he just about fell over on top of me. To add insult to injury, there was some kind of announcer with the group, and he said over the LOUD microphone, "I'm sorry, ma'am, but you're gonna HAVE to let him go." Of course, I was embarrassed, but my son was mortified!! We got up to go into the show and he tried to act like he didn't know me. I told him, "Hey, I know you're embarrassed and I don't blame you, but so am I. If I could just leave my own self right now, I would, but I can't and you're not separating from me either!"

hogwartsdropout - I think that's hilarious! And I don't think it would necessarily ruin their videos. Just think of it. If I got home from my trip, sat down to watch my vacation videos & saw some guy in the background acting like a dork, I would be on the floor!!! I would be showing it to all my friends!! :rotfl2:
