with mosquitoes :sad2:

Last trip I took some bug spray I'd bought for Africa, so it was extra strong and had DEET in it.

It worked great.

(The days I didn't use it I accumulated over 20 HUGE bites.)

Anyone else as popular as me?

I ask because in the sale at the end of last summer I bought some repellant which I dug out last night, but it isn't very strong, and doesn't have DEET, I think it's a natural one.

Should it be strong enough for the Disney bugs?

We had never had a problem with bites until last year. I just think if it works, stick with what you know. We were never bitten in April, but last year we went in October and seemed to be itching constantly. I am convinced we brought some bugs home with us too as it seemed like we continued to be bitten after we got back for a couple of weeks. Nice to be popular, but it does depend with whom ;)

I rarely get bitten but when I do its usually multiple bites. 3 occassions I remember.
Turkey about 14 years ago, had a 12 hour delay so they took us to a hotel for a meal outside, bitten about 20 times.
Day trip to Georgia couple of years ago bitten about 15 times, they were nasty, all spead & looked horrible.
Last Friday OKW, 10 bites & still itching like mad:rotfl2:

If I know we are going out at dusk near water I usually use a spray from Walgreens in a green can, forgot name but it seems OK.

Thanks Wayne, could you have a look and see if it mentions DEET?

What I might do is buy a small strong one, and use that in the lead up to the wedding. As I don't want huge lumps on my arms in the photos....

Then afterwards I can swap to the weaker one and see how I fare.

It could well be it was only at AKL that I was getting bitten (I don't think they use insecticide there like elsewhere due to the wildlife) or it could have been an October thing....

If you try a new brand, test it here before you go. The last thing you want is a reaction just before the wedding.

I too am popular with the bugs..... I use Avons Skin so Soft in the Forest Green scent, it doesn't have deet in it but apparently the bugs don't like it and I have never been bitten when I've worn that - has the added bonus of being a moisturiser too!

My husband has a really serious problem with mosquitos and has had some really bad experiences that include doctor visits abroad and anti-biotics :confused3

Different seasons in FL have different mosquito levels and they also have no-see-ems (no I didn't just make that up they do exsist :lmao:) sand fleas and some other nasty critters that bite.

A word of warning with anything containing Deet, be very careful to only apply the correct amount. We have also had an incident with him getting Deet poisoning from applying too much and thats no fun at all. Believe me.

We found a product called Jungle Formula. Boots and Superdrug usually do a 3 for 2 offer in the summer but the cheapest place I've found it is Savers. We've used this product since around 2006 and in all those years (touch wood) hubby has never had an infected or even irritated bite. Its good stuff. It's not cheap but it works. They have roll on, aerosol spray and pump spray. We always buy the extra strength pump spray as we find it last longer although I do like the roll on for ankles and wrists.

If its the same one we've used before its called Off Deep Woods

and it does contain Deet.
We've used the sports version too. Thats what gave hubby Deet poisoning because he used too much.

Could not agree more. VERY good advice.

I can vouch for the Avon Skin so Soft solution - my mum was an Avon lady and swore blind by it!

My wife (who also seems to attract the blighters) tried it when we went to Florida (in July admittedly), and we never had a problem with mossies.

last time we went in april no one got bitten, in sept though when we went everyone did...maybe the time of year makes a diffrence?

i'm literally a bug magnet but the only time i had any problems was watching fantasmic when we were getting swarmed! i just used some jungle formula stuff and that seemed to do the trick for me!
and just a bit of info in case anybody finds themselves in leech territory, mozzie spray also works really well on them :thumbsup2:rotfl:

i never got bitten when I was a kid they always ate my brother instead. :)

Since he stopped going on holiday with me I get it :(

But tea tree oil does work (Australian Body care is the best brand I've found) shower in a tea tree oil based shower gel and then rub the pure tea tree oil on your pulse points. Its worked for me.

I find watching illuminations is the worst place for a viscious crawly assault.

I couldnt agree more:thumbsup2

I use Skin so Soft as a day to day repellant along with ankle bands which contain Deet too, I think I purchased them from Superdrug. I also take piriton for 2 weeks before we fly and during the holiday.

Only been bitten once whilst using the above preventions and always carry with me an insect poison evacuator. Now I couldnt recommend investing in one of these enough. I bought mine from Boots for around £15. Once youve been bit or whenever you discover the bite you put this sucking device over the area and within a few minutes you can see the poison come out. Therefore no more constant itching :thumbsup2

I'll post a link, or try http://www.boots.com/en/Aspivenin_2237/

Exact same experience to report.

Avon Skin So Soft works a treat - but I found only the original one is effective and I hate the smell of it. I am funny with smells to the point that I decided I would rather be bitten than have to inhale something I didn't like :rotfl: There are two other scented varieties of this, but I found them to be less effective. My DD uses the original Avon spray though and doesn't seem to mind. She wasn't bitten at all until the last few days when we forgot to spray it on :headache:
