I'm Turning 21 on my cruise...?

If you let them know ahead of time, pick a day, and at dinner they will sing happy birthday and bring out a birthday cake/cake slice (can't remember which one) and give him a birthday pin!

I don't care that I'm turning 21, I could be turning 41 and I will always want to spend my birthday at WDW or on a DC. I blame my parents for that one though lol. 7th birthday, was surprised at the airport with my first WDW trip!

I'm spending my 22nd birthday at sea on the Disney Magic, only have to wait till march 11th, and I'm excited

I will take my chances at midnight, and if I do get shot down, that's all right too, because I JUST realized where I will be on my birthday.... CASTAWAY CAY!!!!!!! I figure my first legal drink chillaxing on the beautiful beach will suffice enough.

Correct. On most cruise lines, the age you are on boarding day is the age you are for the entire cruise and the type of card they give you reflects that age. However, most cruise lines will issue you a new card if you have a significant birthday (turning 18 or turning 21) during the cruise so that you may then do what people that age are allowed to do. The "official line" of every cruise line I've read about is that, for the purpose of the cruise, you are the age you were the day you boarded, but in practice, go to Guest Services, smile sweetly, present your ID and ask nicely if you can have the card reissued reflecting the change in your age.

I talked to DCL today, was put on hold for 20 minutes and she said that I should have NO PROBLEM if I go to guest services upon embarking, explaining the situation, and then going again at midnight to get issued a new KTTW card.
Of course, it's all about the attitude in which you approach people, and I know quite a few people who would cop an attitude because they think they have the right. I would never on the sole reason that I want my first drink on the ship too bad.

My DD turned 18 while on the ship. They did exactly as others have suggested--she was allowed into all adult venues on THE day, and celebrated her birthday with dinner at Palo. A new card was issued indicating the new status. We didn't try the "midnight" vs. in the morning as it didn't matter to us. Palo brought her a lovely sugar sculpture on a plate reading "Happy Birthday."

For purposes of determining the cruise fare, a child is charged based on his/her age on day of embarkation. The computer will not allow regular CMs to book things like the "Wild Side" excursion for someone who turns 13 on the cruise or Palo for someone who turns 18, but the supervisors can over-ride the computer. They laughed when I called and asked for a supervisor...made me explain the issue, and really had a good time when I said that I already knew that it could be done by a supervisor because we'd had the same issue when she turned 13....can you tell she likes to sail for birthdays?

Like your attitude
Prepare it advance so you are not caught off guard at midnight. They issued a new KTTW card for my DS9 on our first cruise when he lost his (on the ship less than an hour)- so if you ask nicely I'm sure they will oblige
A drink on CC (Konk Cooler)-is a very nice way to celebrate a big birthday.
And if someone says "no" I would try back later...sometimes it is just a matter of getting the right CM (as in the one that knows the ropes and isn't so afraid of making a mistake).
