I traveled to visit family this past weekend in Alabama. I called one cousin in particular to catch up. He's divorced and has a GF. He owns his own home, used to work for Microsoft and now works for Lockheed-Martin and is in his mid 30s. I call him up and we exchange pleasantries and then the conversation got weird:

Me- Hey, I joined Facebook recently and I looked for you. You aren't on there?
Him- No, I'm too old for Facebook. I'm 35.
Me- Oh...OK. Wanna come over tonight and hang out?
Him- I can't, I'm hanging out with friends.
Me- What are y'all up to tonight?
Him- Dungeons and Dragons

:rolleyes1

Ok, so he's too old for Facebook but not old enough to play D&D? :confused3 :lmao: That doesn't make sense to me.

LOL.

I have a few friends trying to get me to join Facebook and I keep telling them I am too old and won't know anyone to make as friends. They keep laughing at me and telling me to just join and I'll see I'm wrong.

Funny about Dungeons and dragons...That's been around for a long time. I thought that went out...well, he'll not too old to play it but too old for facebook, LOL. I'm too old for facebook but not too old to go to WDW and act like a kid. ;)

I was surprised at how many of my friends are on Facebook. My brother recently joined and he's finding out how convenient it is to share photos of the family with his friends scattered around the country.

I love Facebook and was really surprised at how many people I know that are on there.

I love Facebook too. I have reconnected with so many friends. And I am by no means young. There is even a lady from work in her late 50's/early 60's on there. I was shocked when she sent me a friend request.

That actually sounds like my husband! :lmao: I made him look at my friends list yesterday, and kept telling him "see! 99% of them are all middle aged!"

I have a friend in her 80s on there and everything on down, too. I've connected with friends, far-off relatives, college friends and sorority sisters.

I didn't laugh at my cousin until I got off the phone. I was stunned at first. When I told DH, he was incredulous and then he couldn't stop laughing.

I kept holding out, telling everyone I was too old (32). I eventually fell victime to the peer pressure! It is a fun and easy way to keep in touch and share photos.

Facebook is myspace for adults.

I just recently joined and found many of my former grammar school and high school friends there.

I believe your cousin is mistaken! ;)

I think Facebook is great.

It really allows me to keep in touch with people, and make plans without having to talk on the phone. I HATE talking on the phone. Text me, email me, or put it on Facebook. :rotfl:

Of course he is, but he, like his father, knows EVERYTHING! The rest of us in the family only wishes we were smart like them. It cracks me up when they get going on one of their 'lectures' and nothing is ever up for debate. The best is when my DH, an attorney, gets lectured on the law.

You know, it's entirely possible that he just doesn't want to do it, especially if he's an IT type. Many people are really incensed about Beacon and won't join for that reason. (You can block it, but it's a PITA to do, and for some people, it's just the principle of the thing.)

I refuse to get a Facebook account, partly because of Beacon, and partly because I had my identity stolen a while back, and I'm wary of having too much trackable web presence. I prefer for my real name to remain Web-Dead in all but a strictly professional context, and I limit even that.

Most of the time I don't bother explaining all this; not that many people want to hear the details. Maybe he's just saying that he's too old because he doesn't want to bore you with his real reasons.

Nope. Not it at all. He would delight in boring anyone with those reasons, if only to further assert superiority.

Maybe "I'm too old" is code for "I think it's a waste of time" and he didn't want to hurt your feelings?

I guess I don't find his reasoning odd at all. :confused3

D&D is something that was around when he was a kid, I am sure there is some nostalgia involved when he plays it. Now if he JUST got into D&D as an adult, then I think you are right to find it odd. Facebook has not been around that many years. I actually agree with your cousin in feeling too 'old' for it and having no desire to get involved with it.

Maybe I read between the lines too much, but I think it's a snotty thing to say. He said "I'm too old..." as in "I'm too grown up" as in "I'm more mature than you."
