I'm through with WDWToday Podcast and Unofficial Guide

I'm listening to it now, and she did preface it with "I'll do this as a joke" before she started with these things.

As for the UG, I didn't like how I let it turn me away from a value resort my first trip. I took their advice and stayed off site at a higher rated resort on Priceline and left early to stay at All Star Sports (loved it).

Not really an issue for me.

Will I never listen to their podcast again? Sure I will. But that doesn't mean that I think it's okay to say some of the things she said (Christina). I just can't imagine being either so immature, or so incredibly bored with my job of gathering info, that I would amuse myself giving WDW guests incorrect info...be it hidden Mickey's or directions. Sorry, I just don't think that's funny. Some of her other comments may have been 'tongue in cheek' but still, I didn't find them to be humerous or full of satire! Len Testa has always given out good info, here on the DIS boards. Even when caught in a mistake, he goes right back and amends it. I will still buy UoG, as well as the Passporter. I enjoy both of them...only two books I buy.
But I would rather not have to listen to Christina Testa anymore. Her sense of humor (and I'm really hoping it was an attempt at humor) is not my style. I just don't fine the humor in giving out false info and then watch people flounder around. Not trying to be politically correct or the nice police but it's just not 'nice'.

Well said. Although there are some it might be fun to misdirect... :smooth:

Wow. I just listened to this and...

.... it was obviously a joke.

It may or may not have been slap-your-knee, pee-in-your-pants funny, but I feel it's pretty obvious she was joking, albeit with a very dry, deadpan delivery. I can't believe there aren't more people on this thread who see it.

Gosh - I'm not a fan of any of the guides available, but if that woman was serious in what she said it's a very cruel thing to do and say about others.. :sad2:

No, she didn't apologize and I don't really think should have to. Podcasting is uncensored radio...that's the point. If you don't like what they have to say, don't support them. I respect everyone's negative opinion of that show as I thought some of it was tacky myself. However, I don't think anyone is owed an apology. The WDW Today podcast isn't even an official representative of The UG. Len Testa is a guest on that show as Matt Hotchberg of MGM-Studios.org hosts and runs the show. Also, keep in mind that Len is a co-editor of the book. He isn't the end all of The UG.

Wow. Are some people here so angry because they don't get the satire? Or is it because it involves Disney? Some people get so angry if somehow Disney is affected by anything.

I'm listening to #72 now- it's obvious that she's joking. Same kinds of jokes dh and I make. We don't actually do mean things to other guests, but we joke around about things we could do.

Yeah, you wanna hear someone jokingly making their way around the Disney parks? Well, I do soundseeing tours of the bathrooms at, both, WDW and DL on my latest episode which will post this Sunday. LOL.

The most recent episode up now features a stereo soundseeing tour of Expedition Everest.

Info below...have fun!

I was offended by the podcast, not because I don't get satire or because its about Disney, but because its mean. Its becoming more and more acceptable to be mean and rude to people and it bothers me.

I agree with shellybaxter. And I guess I like satire--but maybe not when I (a tourist who relies on the kind of info in UG and who has been known to ask for directions, look for Hidden Mickeys, take pictures throughout WDW, stroll hand-in-hand with DH in the parks, and has a niece who uses a wheelchair) feel like I'm the subject of C.T.'s satirical jokes. :guilty:
Thanks but no thanks.

Well, I think it's fairly obvious from reading this thread that there are scores of people in this life that are sorely lacking a sense of humor.

(Not really a shocker, I know...)

I have done this. I've got a pretty good list.

Good thing I don't write a guidebook. Maybe I should write a parody guidebook.

:) I'd buy it just cause i never see anything anyone else sees ... hidden mickeys that are way to hidden for me, R rated Disney animated movie scenes a friend of mine swears are there...

i can't help it but sometimes these threads remind me of the old stereotype of the "southern belle" slapping the "cad" across the face..."how dare you sir"..nothing against southern belles or cads either for that matter:rotfl: just my take on a crazy situation

She says that these are things she DOES .... not things she could do.....I don't see how that is the same thing as what you and your husband joke about. The difference is also that she works for a tour guide book that is to help people on their vacation. Would you not think it in bad taste if a doctor was trying to "joke" about telling his patients they had cancer or some other life threatening condition....etc.?

I think the people that don't find Ms. Testa funny and don't so called "get it" are not "sorely lacking a sense of humor" as letterdavidman believes, but rather people that can clearly see, tasteless, means-pirited, infantile behavior that is totally inappropriate for the circumstance when it is black and white in front of their faces. From Howard Stern, it may be hilarious...from Ms. Testa.....disgraceful. Does she owe an apology?....of course not because it is free speech. Would she be doing UG a better service by doing so? I believe so, but damage is done and true colors have been shown IMO.

I don't think it would be funny coming from Howard Stern either!!! I just don't 'get' meanspirited humor. And most people say I have a terrific sense of humor...even to the point of being a bit 'out there'. I just don't think Christina was funny..whether she was joking or telling of her real life experiences.

I just listened to the podcast and I thought it was obvious that she was joking! It sounded like a bunch of friends sitting around and making fun of themselves and Disney and things that can happen at Disney. They even said at the end of the show that it wasn't any sort of a tips or planning guide episode.

Maybe WDW Today usually has a much different format? I don't normally listen to their podcast because I hate their sound quality. It was pretty typical of a lot of the podcasts that I listen to, i.e. people that know each other fairly well sitting around bs'ing.

I'm going to continue to not listen to their podcast unless they can figure out a way to get everyone to sound the same even though they're at different locations. I am also going to continue to buy the Unofficial Guide because it's my favorite guidebook. The touring plans have never done me wrong even at the busiest times of the year. I like the Passporter too, I have the one where you can take out the pockets. I like to put that day's touring plan and a map from Passporter into the pocket and take it to the park with me.

Well said! I totally agree. ::yes::

Meh.... :confused3 I'll still use UG as the gold standard so :p . UG is the book that REFERED me to DIS. And all withstanding, tons of ppl on the DIS have said far worse, scathing, and down right classless things too. :thumbsup2
