I'm thinking of tagging my kid??

Ok here's the deal. I reading how people are putting leashing on there kids and I can total understand. The idea that they can be gone in a blink of an eye scares the HELL out of me. My DD3 is every good at staying with us but it still worries me that she can get separated from us. Large crowds and all. So I thought I would use a marker to write are cell phone number on her arm.
I've also thought I would take a photo of her in every outfit she will be wearing on are trip and have copies with us.
Is this to much? Come on let me have it!

IMHO, in this day and age you can never be too careful (even at DL). Definitely take a picture of your daughter everyday in her outfits. Even if you never have to use it you will have it just in case. I think it is a good idea to put on your daughter's person your cell # and your name incase you need to be contacted. You could try the harness on her and also make sure that she walks in-between your DH and yourself at all times. If you are coming up to a big crowd of people you just might want to pick her up and carrry her until you get through the conjestion. I don't know if it will help pointing out what a CM looks like because I don't know how much she will understand what you are teaching her (my daughter will be 3 when we go and I don't know if she will get it or not). Make sure she knows what your and DH's names are. Are you taking a stroller with you or renting one? If you are and she is walking, have her hold onto the stroller (I know, it will not be easy, but anything to help) and have yourself or Dh walk beside her.
As enjoyable it is to have children it is also the scariest thing in the world. Thanks for starting this thread as it will help a lot parents out there!

While we were there, each of our three kids always had a tag hooked onto their belt loop which had our name and cell phone #, and the hotel and dates we were staying. We also were careful to go over the usual safety rules, and pointed out what CMs looked like.

My friend writes her name/phone # on a piece of paper and safety pins it inside her kids' sweatshirt or inside their pockets in case they get lost.

I bought and used the Safety Tats for our last trip---one tat lasted 4 days, through bathing and swimming (I don't think they were SUPPOSED to last that long)! They come 20 to a set, so I'll have them for our next 5 trips at this rate. They were easy to apply and the girls liked them.

Let me tell ya, there is nothing uglier than your cell phone number on your kids arms five years from now in all of your vacation pictures.

There are many more discreet ways of having you number on your kiddo. Safety pinning inside the shirt or in pockets, belt loop attachements, wristbands (all already mentioned), or even safety pinning it your your kid's shoes is a better (and better looking) way. Make sure to explain to your children what the numbers mean ("If you and I get seperated, find someone with this type of name tag, and show them this card"), and have some sort of plan on how to meet back up if your party seperates if the child goes missing and your group splits to find them.

We were thinking of getting those little heart shaped tags ( the ones you put on dog collars ) and putting it laced through there shoe laces! That way its always on them and since its not paper it won't get ripped and lost...

My girlfriend does the exact same thing, Sharpie on the tummy.

You can't be too careful. Do what you think is right, don't listen to anyone else.

Also be sure to talk to your kids about who to go to if they get lost! I don't tell DD to find someone with a name tag -- anyone can buy a name tag at Disney. I always tell her to find a mom with kids and ask for help.

I think the sharpy on skin is a little to much. There are many different ways to do the same thing, and get the same info to the CM's.

We also did the Sharpie idea, but we wrote on our kids backs. Plus we took pictures of them each day so we had their exact clothes for that day.

We have several wristbands that DD wears (it has to match) around her ankles. Her wrists are too small so they would just fall off. We have both my cell phone number and my wife's cell number.

I can't remember what website I got them from, but there are many out there.

We got my son a dog tag from a machine at WalMart with his name and our cell phone numbers on it. DS 5, at the time, loved watching it get engraved and the price is great (under $10). With a dog tag chain from the Army Navy store ($1) he felt like a soldier. But you could also lace into their shoes.
