I'm thinking of joining a Body Combat class. According to the leaflet at the gym this consists of martial arts moves and a warm up session.

Now my question is, how intense is it? I have been going to the gym nearly every day. Rotating swimming with running and upper body work and feel that I am starting to get quite fit. My concern is that the class will be too intense and I will not be able to keep up and thereby make a fool of myself.

The class is in the evening I have been doing my workouts in the morning, so I haven;t been able to look at the class in progress. I also asked the gym staff the intensity of the class and they said I should be fine.

Any comments would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Florence,
I have no idea of what the intensity level would be, but if the staff thinks you'll have no problem then I'd say its a safe bet that it will work out for you. Usually classes are structured so that if you need a break or need to do a movement at a lower level you can. It sounds wonderful! I say go for it :cheer2:

I've done tons of different types of aerobic classes (I love them!!), but never a body combat class. The one thing I learned, though, is that no matter what shape you are in, a new class will be *tough* at first. BUT, being in shape will help you get through it, and adapt quickly.

You sound like you've been working out for awhile, and are in shape (if you swim and run!). It will probably be a great challenge for you,and you will really enjoy it!

I say go for it! It sounds fun and different. Maybe ask them if there is a possiblity of switching to another class if this one ends up being too difficult. I think you'll probably be ok though since your already working out regularly!

Have fun!

I currently take 3 aerobics classes per week at our local rec center. All the trainers are certified. I take a step aerobibcs class on Mondays, Kickboxing on Wednesdays and pilates on Thursdays. At the center, they let you switch classes (if space is available) if you can't handle the one you signed up for. You could ask if this is a possibility or ask if you can go to the first class to see if it's something you can do and then pay from there for the full session? I love classes because it gives me a chance to do something different, rather than walking or jogging. Plus when you pay for somehting its easier to commit yourself to it...at least for me. And, my sister in law and cousins girlfriend are also in the classes so they make sure that I go every week!

I think everybody feels awkward going into a new class for the first time--I know I do. Sounds like you're ready for a new challenge though, so go for it! I've found it helps to get there a few minutes early and chat up someone who looks friendly. Let people know it's your first class and usually folks are more then happy to give you pointers.

Thanx for the comments.

I think I will go for it and give it a try.
