Hi everyone...

I'm the biggest wimp in the world! I have an oral surgery appointment today at 3:10 (extract my wisdom tooth) and I'm nervous as heck. I haven't been able to sleep or eat or even concentrate to do daily things!

I've put this off for so long that my tooth is growing at an angle and REALLY hurting.

Sigh, I guess I just needed to get that off my chest. (The anticipation is what's killing me-my last visit to the oral surgeon, after he pulled out the wisdom tooth, I fainted in the middle of his hallway...:faint: just like that...)

DH said just think about WDW during the surgery! I don't even think that'll help me now. I won't go under or get the "gas" because I'd be more nervous! I'm just taking the novacane (sp?) shot, I guess in the back of my sick head, I'd like to be aware of it if the surgeon says "Oh crap..." or "Oops"...:worried:

Is anyone else like this? Am I the only sicko that's paranoid and scared like this?!

Are they doing local or general anesthesia?

I had all 4 of my wisdom teeth extracted at once & you better believe I made them totally knock me out!

lol, I think the worse part is that you slober all over the place

I was scared when I had mine done too. But it was not that bad at all!

You'll be okay. Reward yourself when it's over!

A few hours, Queenie, from now and you'll be home, all complete. You'll do fine. And trust me, you are not alone.

If someone is transporting you, you can call and explain the problem ans ask for something for the anxiety. My dentist is willing to do this, but I have managed to make it through thus far! I never passed out in the place though! You would think they would get the idea!

Good luck!

Thanks for the thoughts...I'm just getting a local anesthesia...I wish I had the courage for them to remove ALL of them at once...but my stupid fear won't let me agree to it!

Well...after this one today, it'll be 2 down, 2 more to go (2 bottom ones, which hopefully won't be for a LONG while!)

Oh man, I'm so freakin scared!!!!!!! I want to just ball into a corner and cry...sigh...ok ok...I know I can do this!!!!:sad2: :sad2:

Oh also, I'm NOT going back to the same oral surgeon as I did last time (where I had the "faint spell") this one came highly recommended by another wimp like me, who does not have a high tolerance for pain:sad1: either! So I'm confident about NOT fainting this time! ;)

My ds had his out this past spring. He's very nervous about that type of stuff as well. I mentioned it to the Dr. at the first appointment and they gave him an rx for something to help him relax before the procedure. He actually fell asleep in the waiting room. Maybe the Dr. would call something into the pharmacy for you.

Good luck today and I hope you have a speedy recovery. :)

Just remember that you will feel much relief when they are finally out, I know from experience. Mine grew in the same way, and I also put off getting them removed. It was a painfree procedure. But your mouth does feel really gross with all that bloody cotton...eww...

good luck, you WILL be fine!

Man, am I reading this right? Are you having them extracted one per visit? THAT is what the problem is....have him take them all TODAY (if possible)and you will be happy you did it. 1 or 3...same experience.

You are making yoursef agonize over it 4 TIMES!!!! You're not a wimp, you're a glutton for punishment!!! ;)

My oldest DS had all 4 of his bone impacted wisdom teeth extracted 3 weeks ago. He was extremely nervous, but he did just fine!

It sounds like you're having two extracted, but I'm sure much of the post-procedure care would be the same whether it's one or four teeth being removed. Follow the instructions they give you to minimize any potential complications.

His biggest complaint was the numbness he felt afterwards. He used the pain medication given to him afterwards and managed the pain quite well!

Make sure you have soft foods in the house for the first few days. I bought instant mashed potato mix and he ate those for about 3 days! Also, creamed soups, pudding, jello are all good choices.

I think your feelings of anxiety are very normal~ I agree w/DH...think thoughts of WDW and before you know it, it'll be over! Can you request iv sedation? It isn't general anethesia, but you'll be unaware of the procedure! It may be a good option for you!

Please let us know how you make out! Sending PD your way!

I am the same. My doctor has to prescribe me with tranquilisers to take before I go other wise you would not get me there!! I agree about thinking about something nice when you are there. Last time I thought about the walk from my room at the BCV. By the time I had got to the boardwalk it was all over!!

They knocked me out and did all 4 at the same time. No problem. Maybe you should consider that. Get it all over at one time. I also agree that a sedative may be in your best interest.

Good luck! It will all be over soon.

I think you'll do fine. I'm a big wimp, too.

I had a wisdom tooth out last year. It was nothing at all. I was dreading it, but it went quckly and was painless.

Last Nov I fell and hit my face on the dryer. I broke 2 of my molars. They had to be removed. In May of this year I was getting ready to have dental implants.

In May they drilled holes through my gums into my jaw and inserted metal screws into my jaw. The dentist told me I'd probably get bruising and pain. He prescribed pain pills. I left the dentist at 5pm and didn't feel anything. I dreaded the next day because I was told it would hurt... nothing. I felt nothing. I had no swelling. I had no pain. I didn't even need Advil. It was like nothing every happened.

I'll be thinking about you, but I'm sure you'll be fine. And that's coming from the biggest dental-phobic in the world. :)

Hi again everyone,

I think I'm gonna be here all day until about 1ish when I have to head back home to go for the extraction.

I'm only taking one out, if it was up to me, I'd let it grow out of my cheek and into the open air, but DH didn't think that would be too attractive...so I opted to suck it up and have it done.

The staff suggested IV Sedative and the gas, but I'm just too nervous, but I know it'll be quick so I just want to be conscious to know what's going on.

W/ the last proceedure, I tried stuffing my ears w/ headphones and listening to my music to relax, but I couldn't! I had to stop the music and HEAR every word they say to each other, and what's the sound of this tool, that tool! I don't know why...I guess I'm just weird. I guess if the Oral Surgeon panics, I want to panic too. :worried: :worried:

THANKS SO MUCH for all your help and well wishes! I think I really needed it! :grouphug:

How did it go? Are you doing alright now?

I'm SO glad it's OVER!!! This oral surgeon was so good and quick! During the procedure, it was the SLOWEST/WORST five minsutes of my life, but I was ok. I got a couple of stitches but I'm ok. For whatever reason, after the whole ordeal, I felt faint again. Luckily this time, his assistant was in the room and I told her how I felt. (Prior to the procedure, I told them about the "faintint spell" and they kept a monitor of my BP)

After I told her, my body got so hot and sweaty all of a sudden and I felt numb from my head to my toes! And I started to panic, I didn't want to faint again, and I couldn't focus my eyes! The Dr. came in and positioned my chair to laying down and put the oxygen mask on my nose. (I was so scared and panicky!)

But after a couple of minutes of the oxygen, I felt SO much better. I was just glad the ordeal was over!

The Dr. called me last night at 11PM to check on me, which I thought was so nice! I got a script for some anitbiotics and percaset (sp?) I took only one of the pain killer, I'm ok today...didn't need any. Just a little sore and VERY hungry! (on a soft/liquid diet until tomorrow).

BUT THANK YOU GUYS FOR ALL YOUR WELL WISHES AND CONCERNS!!! IT REALLY REALLY HELPED ME THROUGH IT!!!! I'm still the biggest wimp, but at least I know I can share that with you and you'd understand!

:grouphug::teeth: :teeth: :teeth:

I need to have all four removed and cannot bring myself to do it! So silly! I am glad for you anyway!
