I can't find a definitive answer in a thread search. I apologize in advance :).

My fam is driving down, staying at Pop, and flying back. Obviously we'll be renting a car for the drive down. Problem is, we're renting from Hertz (DH gets a big discount) and they have no return on property. So we have to drive down and return the car at MCO. Because we're not arriving by plane, I know we can't take ME to Pop. Is there a shuttle? Do we need to take a taxi from MCO to Pop? We've never done WDW this way...always either driven our own vehicle or flown. Just trying to figure out how to get from MCO to Pop after we arrive in Orlando and return the rental. Approx cost of a taxi/shuttle? Thanks for any feedback!

The last time I checked on rentals from Hertz in the disney area there were several Hertz locations that advertised hotel pick up and drop off with a rental. I would call each and tell them your situation and ask if you dropped off at their location if they would shuttle you to Pop. Otherwise I would guess a taxi from MCO to cost about $60.00. There may be other shuttle service's to Disney just not sure. You could call ME and ask if you could use ME after dropping off the car at MCO. I am guessing no but you never know.

You don't have to fly to utilize ME. All you need is a reservation at a Disney resort. That reservation entitles you (each person) to one trip from MCO to your Disney resort and one trip from your Disney resort to MCO.

ETA: The trips (each direction) can be done any time between your scheduled check in day and your check out day. So if you're scheduled to check in on a Saturday, you can't take ME on Friday, but you can on Sunday (and later).

Thanks so much for the replies :). Sounds like I need to call ME and just confirm with them what we're able to do as far as usage. I'll also be giving local Orlando Hertz offices a call. Thanks again!

So I just got off the phone with DME and according to the agent, we're able to book ME even though we're not flying in. She said to tell our travel agent to attach a DME reservation to our package, but to specify NO FLIGHT NUMBER so no one is looking for our luggage, etc. I asked several times, "Now, we're able to do this even though we are NOT flying in, but flying out???" She was very courteous and assured me that yes, it's a complimentary service for WDW guests, so we can use it.

I'll confirm with my TA and I'm sure I'm just paranoid enough to call and confirm this with DME a few more times :rotfl2:.

But as of right now, I'm pretty stoked that we can do it this way, as we love DME :). Again, thanks for the help.

You don't need any flights (coming or going). You can take DME from the resort to MCO and rent a car and drive away. No plane required.

This is good to know.

Yes you can do this. My husband flew down and arrived two days before me and I was able to take the DME 2 days after he arrived. Every Disney reservation is entitled to a RT DME as long as the DME is used within the reservation time period and not before or after your reservation.

I would suggest investigating other options besides the airport.

There is a Hertz office at the Wyndham Bonnet Creek. personally, I would call them and ask if I dropped off there, would they be able to get me to a Disney resort/park/DTD/whatever. The hotel shuttle requires a $5 ticket.

In addition, there seems to be an office at the Hyatt Grand Cypress, which is close to Saratoga Springs resort and Hotel Plaza Blvd. The Hyatt likely has shuttles to WDW parks, too. The Hertz here may drop you off at DTD as well.

can't hurt to ask and the time now may save you hours later.

Hi!
I am looking into the possibility of doing this myself....renting a car to drive down and then flying home. I know you said your husband gets a big discount , but would you be willing to share how much it is costing you? It is hard to get that kind of info. on the car rental companies websites. Thanks!!
