I'm starting to second guess myself...

On our choice (well, our boys') of the WL...I showed them both all of the deluxe resorts and they liked the WL and AKL (construction so I said no, plus far from the Magic Kingdom). Now, I'm wondering if I should look into the Polynesian or CR..... I'm such a spaz

Stick with the WL. You'll love it! The theming is wonderful, and it's the best price for the location. The most affordable deluxe (along with ALK) and only a boat ride away from the MK! I would choose WL over the others you mentioned.

We have stayed at both AKL & WL... both are great. If you are looking for location WL is better because of access to MK... both are themed extremely nice. If you are going at Christmas I would choose WL..
