I'm sorry, but I have to ask...

Please understand that policies are not put into effect in order to thwart peoples enjoyment of the Dis.

The policy to stop political / religion disussions was put in place because they stopped being discussions and turned into nasty debates. People with opposing opinions were insulting, humiliating and threatening others.

The policy to stop the swap / photopass threads was put into place because the complaints coming in regarding these things became overwhelming and impossible to control.

The policies regarding the Dis are put in place in order to maintain a family friendly, safe, place to share a information regarding Disney info. (and a host of other topics)

Please keep in mind that this is a privately owned and operated enterprise and that any policy put in place is done so in order to keep maintain the atmosphere described above.

You would think that the guests that visit this site would be able to abide by those simple policies. Sadly, that is often not the case and hard decisions are made.

These guys are the bosses so we have to comply :thumbsup2

You'll just have to get over it! It's not like these topics have been banned from the internet. I don't understand why people so upset that they can't discuss these things on a Disney board :confused3

To be quite honest, in my year of listening, I haven't really heard political rants come from Pete on the podcast and I haven't missed a single show in that year. There is one rant I can think of that is CLOSE to political, but it is very closely related to Disney and the Disney business.

That being said, these are Pete's boards. He pays for the web space. He pays for everything done here, including the podcast. If he wants to do things a certain way, it is most certainly his right. Will it always be fair? Maybe not to all. But it will always be his right. So my view? Pete's boards. Pete can do whatever he wants lol.

Not trying to be rude or fan the flames, jus' sayin!:thumbsup2

I agree totally

Maybe so, but from what I understand, problems with DVC rentals are very, very few and far between and from reading the Budget board this is not the case with the swaps and shares. Since there are ALOT more people involved in those it naturally lends itself to more problems and issues, which requires more policing by Pete's volunteer moderators. I have no idea if this is the case, but maybe the moderators told Pete they had become too much and gotten to hard to deal with? Whatever the reason, I don't think the decision was arbitrary and not for nothing.

The bottom line is that members of the DIS enjoy everything it has to offer with none of the responsibility. Any one of us can leave the DIS tomorrow and not give it another thought. It is not our responsibility and it is not our livelihood. To me this severely limits any say so anyone may think we have as to how it is us and what rules are made. Of course we may not like some of the rules and there is nothing wrong with expressing that, but to say Pete has no right to makes the rules is ridiculous. While the DIS certainly means alot to many of us, none of us share in any of the risk or responsibility. And so I have to trust that the decisions Pete makes, popular or not, are based on what he feels is best for his business. Afterall, he has the most to gain AND the most to lose.

Well said Lisa!

I dont remember political rants........if you're referring to the Orlando Magic blow up, that is more about tourism than politics.

I am glad those political threads are gone....they made me nuts and I would always get lured in.

It's probably about time for Pete to get a new soapbox with all the rants that he has (which I love, so don't take that the wrong way). But, I honestly don't think that I would say that Pete is one who throws his political views around. A rare instance, but it does not define his show.

And, I don't understand why cake and pie don't get equal representation around here. Everyone knows that pie is clearly better.

What about BROWNIES! No representation at all! And don't even get me started on cheesecake... :rolleyes1

OMG I am gaining weight just reading about all of these goodies i must be thin for the cruise...I must be thin for the cruise :rotfl:

The way I see it, it's difficult enough to debate 'in person' with someone about politics or religion, let alone try to do it on a message board, Disney-related or otherwise.

Feelings get hurt, opinions and points are often taken the wrong way... There's vast potential for a whole lot of twisted knickers. And really, at the end of the day what has been accomplished ? Not too much.

I, for one was pleasantly surprised at 'the rant' part of the podcasts the first time I heard them. I personally know the frustration one can feel at the often bone-headed moves that Disney can make at times, and it's nice to listen to people that share my viewpoints. Of course I don't always agree, but that's what keeps it interesting.

Now... Where's my brownie ? :goodvibes

Well said! And generally, in an internet debate ("debate" being used in the loosest of terms, of course) both sides already have their minds made up, no one is going to sway anyone else, and eventually it just turns into a you-know-what-ing contest until someone invokes Godwin's Law. And when Hitler gets involved, nobody wins.

Now if you'll excuse me...

I'll take a dole whip if anyones offering??

I'm getting in line behind this one!

I think what a lot of people forget is that at its core this is a business site...sure it is a place for fans to come and share their tips, trips, and experiences but more importantly for Pete this is his life. It took me a while to come to this realization and I have had my spats particularly on the community board (with a certain webmaster) but I have resolved myself to the fact that I come here to waste time posting on simple minded topics and to check up on any Disney updates or tips that are on here.

There are no double standards as when it comes down to it there is only one standard that counts and that's Pete's. Questioning this would be like walking into Burger King and demanding a Big Mac....Sorry I'm a fat kid I love food analogies...

I personally have adapted Pete's theory on lakes when it comes to hot button topics on here and more specifically on the Community Board and would suggest this to others who can't resist the temptation to argue.
Stay out of the damn Community Board!! :thumbsup2

I am brand new to this site and I am fairly new to podcasts. My husband has listened for quite a while but I heard them in the car when we traveled together so my exposure to the overall structure that the Disboards encompasses is limited. That being said I am smart enough to realize there are two sides to Disney. There is the side that sweeps me away from my day to day life and takes me to my happy place and there is the side of Disney which is a large corporation. So far this site has been on the "fun" side. As I prepare for the podcast cruise and even after when I return I hope this site continues to support the magical side for me. A place where people are open and welcoming. A place where people share information without expectation of getting something in return. A place that is inviting and tolerate of all people with a common interest.

Well I just wanted to share a newcomers point of view.

Carol (Disney Enabler)

I kinda feel like I have been invited to a party with all people who love what I love and then arguing with the host about her wallpaper and her rule about taking my shoes off.....

If I don't like the rules....stay out of the party.....
:surfweb:

I love debate threads about banned debates. I also like to say the word debate. Thats my useless input. I'll shut up now.
