I'm sorry, but because you did not buy from Disney...

This is the reply I got when I called ms regarding my very first ressie made within 30 days of purchase. In the 2010/2011 vacation planner it says that ms will pull out of inventory for you if your requested room is not available as a one-time thing on your first ressie made in 30 days of purchase. I was told if I had bought directly thru Disney and not resale, they would have honored that. I was a little shocked to be treated differently.

It actually says that? I thought it was just a curtesy in the past. Jennifer i would find out who your guide is from disney (and we all have one whether we bought re-sale or direct). Talk to them and see if they can do anything for you ... Good luck.

Did they ever do this for resale purchases? That sounds like a direct only kind of perk.
No, this has never been done for a resale purchase.

I just looked through my 2010 and 2011-2012 planners and was unable to find anything that said "ms will pull out of inventory for you if your requested room is not available as a one-time thing on your first ressie made in 30 days of purchase".

OP - If your planner or other purchase documents say that, you should absolutely call MS and make them honor it, unless it clearly says that it only applies to direct purchases. FWIW, I do not think anything printed by Disney says that. Perhaps you read it somewhere else. Sorry you couldn't get what you preferred for your first reservation. You will have better luck once you can use your 11 & 7 month booking windows

From what I've read on the boards, some DVC guides will pull rooms for you if you buy direct. I believe they do this with breakage inventory or maybe even cash inventory (my terminology is probably incorrect). I've never heard of MS making exceptions for people on their first reservation (resale or direct)...where is that printed? That would be interesting to know...

:) Our guide pulled inventory for us to seal the deal--we were purchasing 210 AVK points direct. He got us 2 SV studios while we were on the phone with him to replace our Oct rooms we had already booked for Pop. I have heard of this happening to others when buying direct--it is a pretty good marketing ploy and we booked it hook line and sinker.

I have never seen this statement in writing. What page of the planner do you see it on? Very strange....

When you purchase resale, DVC considers the date of purchase to be the original date of purchase of the contract. Your member cards will show that date.

Was looking at buying 100 AKL points Direct as an add on. I wanted them add on 3 nights to an existing 2 night reservation at BWV in Oct.:cool1:

CM said it was impossible to do...an accounting issue. He said he had been doing this job for more than 20 years and if they was a way to do it he would know. Anyway, ended up buying another resale. :thumbsup2. Got the impression Direct wasn't willing to do any "extra"; what you see is what you get:sad2:

There isn't any builder's inventory at BWV. It only works at the newer resorts that are actively being sold by DVC. And it doesn't always work.

I don't think that first time assistance is even guaranteed for direct buyers? Our guide couldn't pull any strings to fill one night for our first booking last summer.

:cool1:We added on direct this past January. We added on at AKV. There were two factors that pushed our decision to do so. One was that our son became a CM and there is a CM discount:cool1: and the other was that we were staying in the Swan for a few nights, due to having no more points to use this year:sad2:, and my DH was VERY unhappy with a standard hotel room. We told our guide that if they could get us out of our hotel room and into a studio for the rest of our stay, we'd sign the papers. She said first we actually had to sign the papers in order for MS to see the points in our account, but she did check availability to make sure there was a studio on property for us:thumbsup2 and there was! We signed the papers and two hours later moved out of the Swan and into a DVC studio on points! Woooooohoooooo........lovin the magic!

We were also able to book a studio at AKV for a few nights this coming week! Going home tomorrow! Ooooh Yeah!

congrats! what a great idea!! ;) My DD is only 2 years old but we'll "help" her move towards certain Disney ambitions so that mama can take advantage of CM discounts in the future :lmao: :lmao:

Thanks for posting this - that's what I was going to say.
I'll expand a little....

If you are buying at Animal Kingdom Villas, Bay Lake Tower, or Aulani - they will be able to pull inventory out of what has not been sold yet.
There is an outside chance that they could do this at a resort that is 'sold out' - but I can't see them doing it except under very rare circumstances.

It really is a great way to close the sale for a guide - and to send a new member away 100% satisfied with their new membership/ownership.

I could not locate this or a similar statement within any documents I received when purchasing resale. However, when purchasing an add-on direct, the following statement appeared in item 9 of the Product Understanding Checklist:

"As a courtesy to first-time Members, DVD may assist you with securing your first DVC Resort reservation by using DVD inventory to secure your initial desired accomodations in exchange for your agreement to transfer to DVD the number of Vacation Points needed to secure the desired accommodations. This first-time reservation assistance is subject to DVD's discretion to make it available, is subject to accommodation availability, and is only available for 30 days after the date you signed your Purchase Agreement. Reservations resulting from this assistance may not be modified. DVD is providing this assistance on a one-time basis only, and such assistance is not a typical reservation experience. You should familiarize yourself with the applicable reservation rules and booking windows for all future vacations. Do not rely upon DVD's assistance in this one instance as an assurance or a guarantee that you can obtain any future reservations that may not be otherwise available."

This is a sales incentive, not a membership perk. DVC is accessing the inventory they have control over and using that as a perk on a one time basis. It is unreasonable to expect the same option buying resale. DVC can't generate availability where there is none. It's like getting a full tank of fuel when you buy a new car, you wouldn't expect a courtesy fill up at the dealership if you bought a car somewhere else.

That is true..my very first purchase..25 point OKW resale..brought with it a membership card that says I've been a member since 1997...that contract is long since gone and all of my current contracts were bought direct for VGC and I still have that membership card stating I've been a member for14 years :)

IMHO, this is fair and appropriate. One of the reasons to buy directly from DVC has always been that points were immediately available for reservations vs. waiting for your resale to close and then be put into DVC computer system, which could take up to 2 weeks additional. That DVC would assist a new member on a one-time basis to get a quick reservation pulled from inventory in order to stay right away on their new points does not bother me at all. I waited from mid-Dec until early Feb to get my resale into the computer system to be able to make ressies for June---I knew at that point, I was probably only going to be able to get OKW or SSR---but I got my points for $30 PP less than developer---I was OK with that trade off.
