I'm so upset...

...I could spit bullets. I attended a show today, the Lippizaner Stallions. I called the venue on Friday and was told absolutely NO photos of any kind, that they didn't want the horses to get spooked. Before the horses came out, the announcer comes up and says, take all the photos you want, flash not a problem. Arrrrgghhhh!!!! I was soooo mad I can't even being to describe it! I happened to have my P&S in my bag, so pulled it out, but the photos are horrid because of the low light. I can't even PS them. DH says it's just that I"m now an SLR snob. I tried a noise filter but it has to eliminate so much junk, everything becomes totally distorted. And the shutter lag drove me nuts, and every motion was blurred... Ok, maybe I am now a SLR snob.

That's what we run into at many shows, the ticket, venue, announcer, security, and the website all say different things regarding photos and equipment. Then once we get there all the rules have changed.

You're not a SLR snob, you just want the best photos you can get!

I took my girls to a Jonas Brother's concert on Thursday night. I know some concerts don't allow photos so I called the venue before hand to see if we could bring cameras into the show. I was told absolutely not...No cameras.

So I tell my kids no cameras and make them take them out of their bags and leave them home. I also leave mine home. We get there and they say take all the pics you want, no videos or sound recordings but photos and flashes are fine. We were 15 feet from the stage...Oh the great shots we could have taken!

I felt especially bad for my daughters tho.

I'm sorry they told you one thing and allowed another. I would be a bit peeved as well. And you are not a snob - you just have a well developed photographic palate.

Lighten up, at least you had your P&S. Besides, it's not just the photo quality that makes a photo great, it's the moment you've captured.

I was dumbfounded when I learned that I could take a camera into a Rush concert recently. Just not an SLR. No matter, whatever I get I get. Took my little 4MP Canon G3. The quality pretty much sucks on all of them, plus I was sitting halfway back in the house, but I still love some of them:

You guys are all saying "SLR-Snob" like its a bad thing. It is nothing to be ashamed of. Everybody repeat after me: "Say it loud - I'm an SLR snob and I'm proud".

btw, even when they say no photography, I usually bring mine in the car, just in case.

bbtw, the only thing worse than not having your camera when it is actually allowed are those folks who use it even when it clearly says that it's not!

Most of the concerts ive been to lately don't want you to use any camera with a removable lens, which would be a slr or dslr.

I think they have given up on the no camera's rule because of all of the cell phones having cameras anyhow.
