I'm so sad

My mother called last night to let me know that my 46yo cousin is losing her fight for life. She was diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer 2 yrs ago and no one expected her to live even this long. Radiation and chemo have had their way with her. Now she is very frail,balding, confused and failing fast. Her husband left her this year because he "couldnt stand to look at her" (can you imagine??) He now has a new girlfriend Her 9yo son is devastated. He is losing both parents in one year.

The saddest part is she never smoked a day in her life. But her dad did, for over 40yrs. And he is living with the knowlege that his smoking is killing his baby girl and leaving his grandson mother-less. It's about to kill him, too. So so sad

I'm so very sorry. What a horrible person to leave her in that way. They say the world is round, so hopefully he'll get his "due". And her son....ugh, so unfair for him

Stories like this make me especially upset, but for selfish reasons. I am a lifelong non-smoker, but my parents and sisters smoked heavily while I lived at home. Until recently, my workplace allowed smoking at desks and in the cafeteria. I get very scared.......

I'm so sorry that things are not ending well for your cousin and her son. As for her husband, what an idiot! Way to stick with that "for worse" part. I don't know how you could desert someone in the middle of a serious illness and not feel tremendous guilt.
