I'm so sad--our Universal/IOA trip is now cancelled!

My DH and I were scheduled to fly down to Orlando Friday evening...obviously not a good idea. We thankfully were able to reschedule the Disney portion of our trip for a couple weeks from now, but due to various reasons we had to cancel the Universal/IOA portion of the trip . We've been so excited for months; we haven't been there before and after getting so much wonderful advice from all of you we are so bummed that we won't be going. We even rented The Mummy and the Mummy Returns in anticipation of the ride. And I've been dying to go on Spiderman and also see Shrek!!!! Maybe next year I guess...

Anyway, thank you all for your help with my many questions over the past few months. I'm sure when we do go we will be more than prepared!

Sorry about that. Many must be disappointed to hear that their labor day weekend plans to visit Florida are now wiped out. I feel for you. I would be so bummed if it were me. Good luck with your rescheduled vacation.

Total Bummer! I hate having to cancel trips after months of being excited and planning. Hope you get to go back soon!

I am worried because my one of my buddies is in Disney right now with his family. They aren't supposed to come home till Sunday, so I'm hoping for the best. Not only for him - but for everyone who lives in the SE of course.

I know it stinks to have to cancel...We were due to arrive saturday and had to cancel for this weekend too....We are lucky we can go on monday though, a shorter by one day trip, but a modified trip is better than no trip, so enjoy your trip to Disney and come see Universal next year....

So maybe we need to ask the inevitable - did you get trip insurance?

I have always checked no when that block comes up while booking online - I now will think hard about that.

Will you be losing all the money for your booking, or will you be able to reschedule?

Alot of places in Orlando are allowing changes in the hotel rooms without a rebooking fee. Even priceline and howire are allowing people that would have arrived in Orlando this weekend to cancel their reservations!!

Please pray/keep in your thoughts everyone of us here in Florida. We are really getting a 1, 2 punch this year. I have lived here all my life and I don't think I will ever get used to the feeling in the pit of your stomach when you hear about a storm approaching. I was here for Andrew in '92 and every hurricane before and since.
It just goes with living in Florida.

I really feel for any of you that have to cancel vacation plans to Florida......having been there in July and anticipating our trip for so long, I would be very disappointed. Right now, we can all just pray for our friends from these boards and everyone else down there. And just hope there's an Orlando to go back to again.

Thankfully, my travel agent was able to get a complete refund for our Holiday Inn package which included admission to Universal/IOA. She said I was lucky since they don't normally do that and I had not opted for the travel insurance. I think the parks and airlines are being very acommodating to those who have made plans during the days surrounding this hurricane, though. As one poster suggested above, a modified vacation is better than none at all, and my DH and I are truly thankful for that.

We will be praying for everyone's safety down in Florida as this hurricane passes through.

We were supposed to leave on Saturday as well.....our first ever trip to Universal! We called and rescheduled for the week of October 15th. No penalties...however the cost of the room was significantly more! But we'll get there eventually! Good luck to everyone in Florida!
