I never thought he'd be able to do it! DH is 48 and just started running about a year and half ago. He ran the Steamtown Marathon in Scranton PA today to qualify for the Boston Marathon. He just called to tell me his time - 3 hours 26 minutes - something seconds (I forget) and that he qualified.

He was supposed to run Disney this year but because of work he won't be able to. Of course the Boston Marathon is in APril (17th or 19th) and he's a CPA so I don't know how well that will work out but he sure is excited.

THanks for listening.

Congrats to DH!!!

I have a friend who is running the Disney marathon again in Jan and hopes his time will qualify him for Boston, too!

Congrats to your DH!

I actually live about 15 minutes outside of Scranton, traffic is terrible down there today because of the marathon.

Hooray!! Congratulations to your DH! :)

I really want to run a marathon too, but my damn knees keep holding me back. I don't know what the problem is. I run 5 miles or so, the rest of my body can go on forever, but my left knee gets stiff and pained. I am able to run all the way home, but as soon as I stop my knee freezes up and all I can do is limp my way the last 100 yards of my cool down and continue limping for the next 24 hours. Very frustrating. Must we be slaves to our bodies?

Geez, what a whiny post. Congrats to your husband, I'm 25 and despite my efforts have been unable to accomplish what he has at 48!

That's great! Congrats to your DH. My DH tried 3 times to qualify, but he never did. He used to run the Cape Cod Marathon every year-do they still have it? It was in Falmouth (I think) in November.

Congrats to your hubby!!!

Your post caught my eye....2 suggestions: try run/walking aka intervals and our coaches stressed the importance of stride rate and keeping it to 90 steps per minute per foot. If you are taking long strides--but less than 90 steps..that can cause knee problems.

You can also check with a PT to see if there is a cause and something else you can do to prevent your problem.

I had knee problems--bad ones a few weeks ago. I took a week off--and then listened to the coach about the stride rate....and though I am having some knee pain (feels like I need a chiropractic adjustment)....the running is GREAT and I am not deblitated as I was just 2 weeks ago.

Congrats to DH, DisneyMomx7!!

My DH is also 48 and has run about 20 marathons over the years, including the Disney Marathon a couple of times. But he has never done the Boston . . . maybe someday.

CaptainCook, you may want to check with a sports medicine physician. There are treatments for knee pain that may help you.

Is the steamtown marathon a full marathon? IE, 26 miles? If so, I am WAY IMPRESSED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My sis and I are doing the disney half marathon in January and we get 3.5 hours to run that and I'm afraid of not finishing! LOL

Congrats to your DH! What a proud accomplisment!

I have relatives that run every year and I just couldn't image
(I am lucky if I can RUN to the mailbox (1/4 mile) I am so out of shape!)

I can qualify for the Boston Marathon, *if* I am still running at 70! and don't lose any speed lol! I am an 11 minute a mile runner. You should be so proud of him! That is an awesome accomplishment! How much fun is April on Boston going to be?
