DVD's are worth 75-100 points, blu rays are a 150-250 points depending on the combo pack. Each month there's an email with a "surprise" bonus points, and occasionally word hunts. Sometimes it can be with a new movie release but they usually always do a 5 point bonus everyday from Dec 1-25th. Some of the older dvd's do not have codes in them, but nearly all the new releases do. Once you register your movie, it is also eligible for Disney's disc replacement program as well. If you get a blu ray with digital copy, you'll need to register it to install the digital version.
The points can be used for a variety of rewards on the site. Sometimes there are exclusives, like the grabd opening of the new Fantasyland pin. I've only used mine a few times, a mickey beanie, my first duffy plush, fantasyland pin, and davy crockett dvd.
There's no downside to it, doesn't cost anything extra. With all the free points they give out, it's still possible to get free stuff even if you don't have a huge movie collection. Some music CD's and movie ticket stubs are also worth points.
