I'm scared of Boma's menu

I was just looking at a link posted for the Boma menu & I'm kind of scared. We will be there in June, myself, DH, DD13, DD9 & DS9. My kids have always been meat & potato kids (not just burgers) and I'm beginning to wonder if the food is going to be TOO different than what they & DH are used to. Do they have enough other regular foods or should we try somewhere else.

As far as buffets, my kids hated the plain-jane H&V for dinner in April, but absolutely LOVED CP at MK. Are there any other buffets of that caliber out there on DDP?

We all LOVED Boma's and I am very picky and DS is picky! There is something for everyone! There are the "old standards" (pasta, sauce, meatballs, chicken) if you are not adventurus!

We made a plan before we went... we went to each station/section and got a bite of at least 2 or 3 things each place. We tried the bite. If we hated it, no problem and no waste... the items we liked... we got an actual serving on our return trip! We have planned to return 2 times, perhaps three, on our upcoming trip! Also, the animals and lodge are awesome to see!

You can only make three mistakes at Boma:

1. Having a Mickey ice cream bar too soon before you get there.

2. Not trying the zebra. (Relax, it's just a desert. )


3. Not going!

Boma is a must do! We've taken extremely picky kids and adults there. EVERYONE has loved it. You can be as cautious or adventurous as you like.

Go hungry. Go a little early for your ADR. Go early in your trip. Trust me. You'll want to go back.

Great post! I definately agree on #1 & #3, DH and DH agree on all three points! I found that I am a flan fan, not a zebra dome fan while visiting Boma's!

Tried it Sunday and will definetly not do again. I didn't hate it, but it just wasn't for me. $30 bux for something i really didn't enjoy. I would have been better off going to Chili's to have a rack of ribs for $16 bux with alot of sides and a drink (which we did thursday and enjoyed it more than any other ADR we had). I know i'm paying for the ambience and experience, but the food should at least be filling and for the price of each plate it's definetly not worth it for me. Did all of the ones that i wanted (whispering canyon, corral reef, le cellier, Donalds Safari b'fast, boma, jiko) and wasn't wowed by any of them. I've at least tried them once and that will be enough for us. From now on it's off property for dinner except for maybe once or twice if DD wants something then and there.

Me and my family ate there on our last trip and I am the picky one but none of the 5 of us liked it. None of us found anything we liked and we all tried a little of everything. We will never eat there again.

We all loved the mac & cheese! LOL! Boma was not for us, don't really know why, just none of us liked the flavors. I am glad we tried it, but next time will go somewhere else.

My picky eater loved the buffet at Biergarten much better.

I hate to be the only naysayer here, but the only thing my family liked about Boma was that it's located at the AKL. The food was weird, and we didn't like much of anything. If we hadn't been on the free dining plan I would have been very upset at the wasted meal. It was almost worth it just to see AKL, though. It's an amazing resort.

This thread can basically be locked right now. This thread almost perfectly represents Boma. Send 10 families to Boma, 8 will LOVE it, one will be kinda so-so, and one family will be the "whats all this weird food?" type people.

If it was was weird crazy food that no one liked, they wouldn't be booked almost every night. I've eaten there a handful of times, and its always great. Boma never lets me down, and after one to many zebra domes, I leave moaning and wishing I hadn't eaten so much.

Its always funny seeing that one family that isn't happy there. Last time I was there, I was grabbing some of their wonder soups, and heard a middle aged mom talking her what I can guess was her husband and 2 teenage kids. With a big southern drawl she said, "I don't know what most crap is, but at least they have chicken nuggets!" I then watched, while trying not to laugh, as all 4 of them each mounded their plate full of nothing but mac-n-cheese, chicken nuggets, and spaghetti.

I would say the quality of the food at Boma was very good. Everything that was supposed to be temperature hot, was. Everything that was dessert, was sweet and the place was clean and service excellent.

I guess what ever spice they used in most of the food was not something I cared for. We were just not WOW'd by the food. I'm glad we tried Boma. Next time, we will head somewhere else.

I would try Boma if you have not been there. The different tastes and spices are worth trying, especially if you do not usually try them.

Oh, wonderful, I was also having the same reservation about what DD8 would think of Boma but really thought it would be fun to try. This thread has convinced me to go for it.

My DS11 and I are both picky but about different food groups. That said, we both loved Boma and plan to go back. DH is a very adventerous eater and didn't enjoy it as much as we did. Maybe because it didn't live up to the hype for him. But he would go back. There is plenty of 'normal' stuff there.

And our philosophy is that there are plenty of other options, granted maybe not super healthy, but there is always a hot dog at Casey's, a Dole Whip or something wonderful at Epcot if one is still hungry after dinner!

Here's what we did in September with our two DD's-8 and 10:

The first trip up to the buffet was the "adventure." Noone could take anything that they had ever had before! Just small portions of new and unique items. It was a ton of fun! We all ended up with three or four new things that we really liked, and had seconds (or thirds or fourths!) of. Then as the meal progressed, we went back for some of our more traditional favorites-the prime rib with Boma sauce was fantastic!

This was our third trip back to Boma, and it wll definitely be a staple for every future trip. You won't be disappointed at all!

Boma is outstanding. The salmon, in particular, is the best. It's even better than two places who prepare better-than-average salmon: Tusker House and Wolfgang Puck. We dined at Boma on Tuesday, Dec. 11. And it was grand!

I am probably one of the only people on this forum that did not care for Boma. Yeah, I know...shocking huh? We ate there on our first night, Dec 1, since we were staying at AKL.

My DH loved it! He raved about the food. But DS and I could have cared less. There were things we enjoyed, and we were glad we gave the restaurant a try. Although, unless my DH demands we eat there again, it is not going to be on our ADR list.

Don't think I am trying to diss Boma. The atmosphere, cleanliness, and service was outstanding, we just didn't care much for the food options. But for what it is worth, I would at least give Boma a try once to decide for yourself if you like it or not.

OK, I'm a very picky eater (though I'll eat most any meat, as long as there's not some bad sauce or something on it). Overall, I loved Boma. I was willing to try lots of new things, and disliked probably 75% of them. That other 25%, though, was really good. In the end, I found plenty of things I really liked, and left happy and having eaten way too much. The next year, we made it a point to return to Boma, and again I was not disappointed. For many of the dishes, it's the only place I've been to that offered them.

If your family won't even try new things, maybe Boma's not the place to go. But, if they'll try other things out, I'm nearly certain they'll find some things they like.

Good! It is worth a try... if you guys don't like it when you go, you will know and not plan to go again! We did that with Garden Grill... we would not return there for a free meal even! There is truly something for everyone at Boma's, I think there is enough variety for nearly everyone to get full! Have a wonderful trip!

We made mistake #1 on our trip last Jan. For some reason, everyone was starving after the parade at AK. We all got an ice cream cookie sandwich and then immediately headed to AKL for our reservations. I was never so sad to be full in my life. I still managed to eat one whole plate of food and some extra servings of my favorites, but next time, I'm going hungry!

My kids loved Boma. My dd was in heaven with all the different types of fruit and my ds loved the zebra PB&J sandwiches. We're booked for this coming Jan.

FWIW, I'm not a huge fan of most of the Disney restaurants that I've been to so far, and Boma is the only one of two that will be a repeat this trip. The other is Chef Mickey's and that's for the characters, not the food.
