Well, the wife & I have to sell our trailer. We made the decision to home school our daughters...long story...so the wife had to stop working and we sold our truck and golf cart. Hopefully in a few years we will be able to purchase another one, as we really love camping at the Fort. We will now be some of the folks:sad1: coming over on the "boat" to visit!!

I homeschooled for 7 years and they are now attending public school do to a change in my circumstances. I totally understand. I also had to get rid of my camper and tow vehicle.

Good news is that you can buy an inexpensive tent, a couple of air mattresses, a camp stove, and be on your way back to camping at the fort. I am sure you may already have an air mattress or 2. Instead of a campstove, an electric skillet works great and you can always use the grill there. The sites are even less expensive. That is how we started camping at the fort and that is how we will be returning.

Look around on here and you will find lots of great tent camping advice.

Best of luck with your newest adventure.

It may stink, but it sounds like you're doing the right thing for your family right now. I know you know this already, but your kids are worth more than a camper and a vehicle. Sometimes, it's not fun being a parent. It's certainly not for the selfish, that's for sure! We've given up A LOT to homeschool our children, but we've never gone without and we've never regretted it. Hang in there. As the previous posters have stated, there's always tent camping or renting a camper.:thumbsup2

Yep, you certainly do have to prioritize when making the decision to homeschool. We haven't given up the rv yet, but I've at least considered it. We have however postponed some projects we wanted to do on the house, like building a porch and remodeling a bathroom. Homeschooling can be expensive! Not only do you have the expenses of curriculum and activities that you wouldn't have if the kids were in public school, you still have to pay your public school taxes! But, it is worth it to us, and you are making the decision that you obviously think is the best for your kids as well.

Best of luck selling the trailer, and I hope that one day you will be in a position to buy another if you choose to.

Thanks for all the positive comments...we have a tent...we may try it when it gets cooler, DD10 has medical problems, so we have to watch the environment, mainly air temp, and sounds..sensory integration disorder and other seizure issues.:thumbsup2

We had to sell ours too, so i know how you feel. :sad1: My husbands boss bought it, a sad sad day for sure. We have made so many happy memories its hard to let go but we'll have another one day.

It's all about the family - no one cantake away the mmories and you'll find new things to do.

We can relate to you in two ways.

First off, we have been home-schooling our two sons from the beginning. John is now 15 and Luke just turned 9. I work a full-time job and have my own business on the side so my wife can stay home and raise my sons the way we want them raised. I wouldn't trade it for the world.

Second, we sold our Puma in March of last year. I sold the F-250 two months ago. Both are pictured at the Fort in my signature. As sad as it was, it just made sense since we were preparing to build our new home. Now that things are slowly getting settled in and we're starting to get things caught up, we know getting another TT isn't far off. I don't know if we'll make it for the early part of 2010 but I can see us possibly heading to the Fort for a December 2010 trip. We'll see and just put our trust in God's timing.

Sometimes in life, you have to take a step or two backwards in order to make a huge gain overall. :thumbsup2

I am sorry to hear about the camper. DD has sensory issues as well. The homeschooling will be great in the long run. I commend you I would never have the patience for it because I can't figure out all the math they are teaching today. If you need a good local resource for the sensory stuff PM me.

I hope that everything is working out. Kids come first no matter what!

I hope maybe one day when it is cooler we can meet up again in the 1500 loop maybe :confused3

We also had to sell the golf cart. Tigg his a tree with it at the fort on the 4th trip and with no extra money to fix it we sold it and used the money to get some of the back bills paid.

We homeschool and sadly we haven't even bought our first camper yet, we stay values during the free dining times. I know what a tough decision it was to homeschool...but you'll really see a difference. Just remind yourself everyday why you made the decision to homeschool, because there will be those days that you're about to pull your hair out wondering why you'd ever do something so HUGE. It's worth it though.....and I hope you get another camper soon :)
