The wife got me a kindle for my B-Day!:cool1: So far I am really loving it!! I think I might actually start to read more than I have been in the last year or so. It is just amazing how small and light it is. I'm also amazed at how easy it is to buy books. Anyway.....just thought I'd share.....go back to your normally scheduled browsing.....

That is a great birthday present. I hope you love it as much as I love mine! :)

I've been thinking about getting one but one thing that confuses me is the same book offered for different prices. What's the difference between the books? Same book, same author but some are at .99 and others are at $6.99.

Is there something I need to know before deciding which book to purchase? Thanks!

I also love the Kindle!
Our entire family uses it, you can even get an app that allows you to read on your ipad and itouch and it remembers where you stoped reading. You can look up words and so much more. My son has increased his book interest and reading, that is priceless!

I have seen a review of book readers and the sum of the review was that you get what you pay for.

On Amazon you will see different prices....Hardback, Paperback, Kindle...
obviously if you are looking for a Kindle version, just look at the Kindle price. Hope that helps.

I got one for Christmas for myself :) Of course, its wrapped under the tree right now, but I cannot wait to open and start playing with it :yay:

Val is too. Or will be once we get a replacement. The screen went screwy after only a few minutes of play.

I just ordered one yesterday with some christmas money (thanks Mom!). I can't WAIT to get it and start playing/reading. I didn't get the 3G version - just the wifi - so I hope I am not disappointed in that. But I have wifi at home so I am hoping it will be enough for me.

Anyone have any suggestions or ways to find out about free books? I can't wait to load it up for my upcoming beach vacation in January :)

Amazon has a Kindle Discussion Board. It's located here:

http://www.amazon.com/tag/kindle/forum/ref=sv_kinh_6

One of the regulars (her name is Joyce) has taken it upon herself to research the day's free books and post them on these boards.

I have learned a great deal about some terrific books and the functionality of my Kindle.

Just a word of advice....if a free book looks even slightly interesting, grab it. They dont always stay free for long. Many times, they are only free for a day...or even a couple of hours.

Hope that helps.

MY mother in law got a Kindle for Christmas. Any Canadians on here have one? Just wondering if there are any frustrations with US only features, or if it works in Canada pretty much the same way.

It's my understanding, from what I have read, that the biggest frustration with Canadian Kindler's is book licensing and pricing....which has nothing to do with Kindle and everything to do with book publishers.

The discussion forum I posted above has a great search function, so I'm certain that you'd be able to find the discussions relevant to Canadian users.

Here's another forum, MobileRead, that has a section for each of the different brands of eReaders.

The Kindle forum is here:

http://www.mobileread.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=140

They discuss problems, solutions, sources for free books, sources for paid books, etc. I have a Sony eReader, so I don't follow the Kindle forum, but if the folks there are half as fabulous as the folks on the Sony forum, then it will be a very informative & useful place! It has the advantage of not be affiliated with or sponsored by the manufacturer!

Sayhello

I want a Kindle and I just don't know which one to get the cheaper one or the 3G. Any thoughts?

If you go to the amazon website, there is also a spot on the Kindle store page to the right where it lists Top 100 Bestsellers. It also has a tab for the top 100 free bestsellers.
I love mine and have gotten more free books than I've actually paid for.

Santa brought me one for Christmas, too! :)

Quick Question: Is the screen supposed to have a design on it when it is off? I can't tell if I am turning it off or putting it into sleep mode.
