I'm Ordering a big BLT for Thanksgiving 2010 NEW 12/3 started TR! see link

I'm back and glad to hear you got the ADRs you wanted!! My TA books ours tomorrow morning!!!

Hey everyone….

It has been a crazy week (last week) of getting back from Atlanta (CP’s neck of the woods) after a very fun but quick Memorial weekend away…and jumping right into all of the end of the yr events at my kids school as the last official day is wrapping up right now…

To make this go quicker and avoid using up more of my free space in my photobucket account I’m going to provide you w/ several links to photos and video’s on my Facebook page…

Hope this will be OK….

So to move this OT :offtopic: report along…let’s talk Atlanta Road Trip:drive:….

5 adults and 1 child hit the road from the western suburbs of Chicago around 6:00 pm on Thursday night May 27th for our exciting 12 hr all-nighter down to the suburbs of Atlanta to visit my Aunt, Uncle and Cousins….

We crammed in my minivan several duffle bags, my brothers 4 pairs of shoes….seriously for 3 days? Books, drinks, snacks, suckers and 1 cello….

I drove the first leg past Indianapolis, Indiana and we stopped around 10:30 ish at night if I recall correctly for dinner at the ever wonderful Steak and Shake…oh boy…and of course I looked like the dorky tourist as I took pictures. Including the one of Bekah enjoyed her grape Kool-aid shake. I had a yummy BLT sandwich, my favorite…now as my SIL (the math teacher) helped Bekah figure out what change she’d receive back when paying the bill and sent her on the way…I had turned around to check on her up front and saw some man approach her….well I must have been tired cause that “some man” was my brother….

My brother Dan did the next run till about 2 am when my poor and very courageous SIL got the carp shoot portion of the drive from 2 am till 6:30 am or so and drove us in almost the rest of the way at night through the mountains as well….I sat in the way back w/ Bekah and tried to sleep w/ my Disney sweatshirt on backwards w/ the hood over my eyes…

I took over at less than 2 hrs away from my Aunt’s house and we pulled in just before 8:30 am…

Crazy but we made it….

That day was spent catching up, napping and going to the pool… fun! My Uncle, 1 cousin and my SIL and Bro went to a Braves Baseball game on Friday night after driving through crazy hail in downtown Atlanta…they said they have never seen weather like that and couldn’t believe the amount of cars just stopping on the highway…now us northern folks…we aren’t that scared…they described my Uncle swerving in and around parked cars yelling “get out of my way” oh man what a way to start the weekend….

On Saturday I got to do a little scrapping and “shopping” in my Aunt Scrapbooking Store oh I mean room….and then my Bro, SIL, Bekah and cousin MK took the Marta into downtown and ate at the infamous Varsity and I made everyone pose in the red hats…then we took the Marta a little further in and went to Olympic park and walked around…but it was HOT…and oh man I had completely forgot again for day 2 in a row to give Bekah her ADHD/PDD med’s so by this time so was so off… :guilty: if Nathan is off his med’s he becomes completely hyper where as poor Bekah just shuts down…we stopped outside the World of Coke and my brother treated us to some $1 mini cokes the bottles were so cute. That night we hung out in my Uncle’s Sports Bar and watched the Hawks win Game 1 in the Stanley Cup, played pool which I won finally after 3 games I was so ecstatic I jumped in the air! Then we played Wii Rock Band :rockband: which I learned I seriously stink at.

Sunday was another fun day as I helped my Aunt get ready for the graduation party for my 2 cousins 1 who graduated 8th and 1 graduated from HS…we had great food, laughs and fun…plus played LRC, a dice $3 gambling game at night…I almost won the 2nd round…

Monday it was time to head home and my brother was flying home to Chicago to make it home in time for Game two when I thought of fellow Diser Missy and her travel story on the way to her cruise…so my brother had booked this 1-way flight on Delta for pretty cheap but didn’t have a seat assignment…we were already on the road for awhile when he text’s my SIL to say the flight is delayed due to weather in Indy and Chi-town plus he still has no seat….OH CARP!!!!! :scared1:

We were feeling mighty bad at this point, you see my Bro is a season tix holder for the Blackhawks and sold his game 1 to still go to Atlanta and it would totally suck if he now missed game 2 due to airline chaos…already an hour delayed and barely going to make it to the game he is one of 6 people still to board when the man at the gate says don’t worry man I’ll get you on the plane…well he did all right…for the $150 my brother paid he flew home in style on First Class baby…. :cool1:

After the car driving crew made it home after keeping entertained w/ playing MASH and fortune teller (which I had to google the directions HA) we dropped my Aunt off at about 11:15 pm and just had to stop and get hot dogs and fries and the other infamous eatery in Franklin Park IL Gene and Judes…we got to my Mom’s a ½ hr later where my brother was waiting for us after the game to be driven home (my brother and wife live less than 20 minutes from me) we ate our dogs and and laughed over my brother’s travel story of getting home…he said it was like that old John Candy film Planes, Trains and Automobiles….

As my week continued I chaperoned and set up the 5th grade outing to the local pool…it was a great HOT day so a perfect day…it was way tough getting up that morning and getting the kids off to school…but sitting by the pool for two hrs wasn’t so bad… :beach:

The next day was the 5th grade chariot races which both of the twins were on different teams and after some crazy drama and poor Nathan breaking down w/ frustration and confusion plus some carpy parent not realizing he was calling my child a “cry baby” to my face….I shut him down fast  ….that is my Son, he is Autistic…Nathan’s team won the whole thing….good for them and him!

Then Thursday of last week was my whirlwind day finalizing everything w/ my committee for the school’s end of the yr big event Exploremore Day….plus I helped the kids hand out their teacher gifts and Nathan, Bekah and I took a moment to say “good-bye” to all their old teachers at their school and thank them for teaching them over the years…plus Matt and I made a video for the school’s principal looking back on their school yrs and how they have grown from K to 5th… :cloud9:

Here is the link:

Plus here is the link to an ongoing photo album of my kids…I still need to upload Matt’s pictures of Naomi-Ruth’s last day but just go to the bottom and last page and you’ll be able to see pictures from the Chariot races, Exploremore Day and field trip to the pool…

Back to Disney Planning….

Hard to believe but due to so much else going on, our WDW trip sorta took a back seat for me as in planning and prepping….

But like any good Diser it wasn’t completely forgotten….

Before I left for Atlanta I worked on finishing designing all my daily itinerary pages on the computer so I could add in the basic plans for each day (1-10)

Included is

Wake-up time:

Expected weather

Main Activity (park choices or other non-park item)

Breakfast, Lunch, & Dinner Plans

Basic itinerary plans broken down by Morning, Afternoon and Evening

Notes

I created each page on the computer and will add stuff to it as we finalize our plans then I will print…I’m going to ask my DH Matt how I can share the files online so I can add a link so you see what I’m talking about.

Looking at my overall MASTER TO DO LIST for Planning I’m a bit behind…but that’s ok….summer should allow me to catch up a bit…

This is what is on the horizon for the next 3 months as we get closer and closer to the 110 day mark and our official Disney Fun Countdown begins:

JUNE:

**Plan out the extra fun stuff and begin to order any custom things I need
I have decided on the custom things and since $ is super tight I have devised a spread out plan of when to order…let’s just hope the things I’ve eyed on Esty will still be there…

6-10: Naomi-Ruth Custom Mary Poppins jumper dress from Esty and Mom’s custom Mary Poppins shirt

7-10: Rebekah’s custom Belle dress from Etsy

9-10: Girl’s custom Clippies (Princess and Turkey) from Becky (ladybugbows)

10-10: Magic Guidebooks & Journals from website Guide to the Magic for Kids

**Book Airfare on Thursday June 10th!!!!!

**Call WDW and DVC MS to give them my flight info and set up DME transfers

**Start going over our personal Top Choices for each park, Overall Top 5 choices and then each Parks TOP picks to help plan a more specific touring plan per park day.

**Start working on my personal customs: Make the little girl’s custom b-day shirts, Bekah’s custom Alice shirt and other misc personal customs for the trip (b-day buttons, Nathan’s autism awareness card, Matt and Nathan’s AiW customs for 1900 PF, signs for our resort door

JULY:

**Start posting themes of each Park: favorites from past trips, our must do’s for the current trip and lessons learned…starting w/ DHS

**Get the 110 day Countdown to Disney Fun chain ready w/ our 10 day Disney-Fun Adventures, plus post all about our plan…

**Start making the kids custom Autograph books

AUGUST:

**Start 110 Disney Fun Countdown on Sunday August the 1st

**Continue posts about each park

**Make custom birthday/memory books for Rachel and Naomi-Ruth (to add in pictures later when home)

**Master Packing List- update and share

Also on the to-do list just not outlined by month yet….

**Order the GP’s park passes from UT

**Type out needed notes from my pre-planning notebook

**Make food cheat sheet cards for each possible CS restaurant for my reference re Naomi-Ruth

**Have my sister pimp up Bekah’s Tink sweatshirt and make Naomi-Ruth’s Disney Logo shirt

**Fill out my park cheat sheets and laminate plus add notes from touring plans and TGM for optimal touring suggestions

And I’m sure there is more

Well please stay tuned…lots to do, plan, create and more is in store as the months tick down closer and closer to November…..

Thanks

J~

Hi Julie! Your video was absolutely beautiful! What a great idea. :thumbsup2 Watching the kids grow up....bittersweet, I'm sure!

Sounds like you had a busy, but so fun, weekend! You are a brave woman to travel that far with all those people! Talk about a road trip! ;)

As always, I love all your To-Do lists. You have a great plan to spread purchases out over time...the big advantage to planning a trip so far out.

Oh....and a big UGH for the Atlanta airport!! I'm glad your brother made it in time for the game! :)

So glad DBro made it back in time for the game - phew. Sounds like you had a great weekend in Atlanta!

What a busy end of the year! Hopefully you can get a bit of a break now.

FYI.....just checked SWAs site and the next reservation window is not opening until June 15th now.

I like the idea of spreading out the costs for the 'extras'. I'm going to make a list and do the same.

Off to follow your links.......

Glad you had a good time in Atlanta! Love the pic of y'all in your Varsity hats! :thumbsup2 That's also a great picture of you celebrating winning your pool game!

I can't believe how busy you have been! I am tired just reading all about it!

Oh, and you are way more organized with your trip planning than I have been. I am usually so Type A when it comes to getting ready for a Disney trip, but I have just been so, "La la la" about the whole thing for some reason. I think when it gets a bit closer, I am going to go into panic mode.

thanks....it is fun and yes bittersweet to see how much they have grown...before I know it, they will be heading off to HS and beyond...

it was an adventure...but I'll do that drive anyday w/ just 1 kid vs four

yeah funny right? :rotfl:

I can't believe how busy you have been! I am tired just reading all about it!

I've been zonking out on the couch each past night before 10 pm

Oh I try...but don't be fooled :rolleyes1

A new update coming soon....

Thanks for sharing all the photos & the great video!! :thumbsup2

The time is going to fly by until your trip!! You have a great to-do list... as usual!

I was just looking at my kitchen calendar and noticed that Southwest opens up through early January tomorrow. :cool1: That's what reminded me I needed to come check in on you.

Good Luck tomorrow!! I can't wait to find out when Feb/March tickets are being released.

WOW! It looks like you had a g reat time in Atlanta!! LOVE the planning list!! That's right up my alley!! LOVE the organization of it all!! :goodvibes

thanks...O love me a good list...now just to find the time to work on that list and tell you all about it....haven;t noticed on FB but have you sold yet :confused3

Let’s get down to some nitty critty….

What to do over the next 5 + months as we plan this next trip? You saw my summer to do list, boy that is a lot…I better get cracking or is it cranking.

Now that the food stuff is basically figured out ADR’s done, plan B w/ Tuttio Italia at Epcot done, pretty good outline of our CS choices done…the only things left in the area of food will be

1) cancel one of the Tuttio Italia ADR’s when we decide on a more firm plan for the two main Epcot touring days

2) call end of August for the CLP dinner pkg and decide if we do want this or not

3) after making more general touring plans per park per day figure out which CS places should be in our path

4) make Naomi-Ruth’s food cheat sheet cards

5) come up w/ a yummy snack list…I feel like we do good w/ our snack credits…but miss out on some of those really good things

6) decide on how much food we need for meals in the villa what I can bring from home and what needs to be ordered

Since I feel like my brain is on overload w/ the food stuff…I think this can be put on the back burner till the end of summer (minus Naomi-Ruth’s cheat sheets)

The next obvious planning choice IMHO after resort, tickets, park days and food/ADR’s is a more general to specific touring plans for each day.

How do I do this?:confused3

Here’s my plan of attack for this trip….I shall use this analogy:

BLT MAGIC

B-be flexible

L-lot’s of goals vs specific from this to that

T-time for the little things

M-makin memories

A-arrival time is key this trip

G-good balance between touring and rest

I-icicle lights on the castle (need I say more?)

C-concentrate on Holiday things

The Steps to my Plan...

Step 1): Gather each member of our traveling group’s TOP choice per park

Step 2): Gather each person’s TOP 5 overal choices

Step 3) start putting together a list per park/day of “Must/See or Do” List and an “If Time” List

I have a worksheet for each park touring day that I can write down the rides, attractions, showes, etc per park day and spaces for EMH, Parades, Dining and Notes

Step 4): Take the info from Step 3) and start formulating a tour plan

Step 5): get the Diser seal of approval….

Step 6): tweak as needed when it get’s closer based any entertainment schedules, changes in park hours or parade/nighttime entertainment schedules…

Step 7): decide how I want to use this info at the park…

*Custom tour maps from touringplans.com

*My own custom goal sheets

*Park planning cheat sheet cards

*Or some combination of….

Step 8): after I do all that…I will make Nathan his own set of the same thing w/ notes pertinent to him and his touring needs

Let's get started...

Step 1): Gather each member of our traveling group’s TOP choice per park (I have to admit normally I don’t do this, I just go right to an overall TOP 5…but I was intrigued by Stephanie (Charlesfour) question asking what 1 thing do you not miss at each park…

Since I am trying to be more flexible and keep to a more goal oriented plan of touring this time…I thought it would be good to have a set goal for each park based on what each of us wants to see or do and make sure it can be accomplished over the course of which days or times we’ll be visiting each park…

Here is what I have so far:

MK:

Me- BTMRR w/ Bekah or Space Mt

DH- PPF w/ the added note of sitting w/ Mommy (me not his mommy)

Bekah- BTMRR

Nathan- HOP

Rachel- walk through Cinderella Castle

Naomi-Ruth- IASW

GP’s-

*** honorable mention Spectro & Castle at night

EPCOT:

Me- Holiday Story tellers

DH- Malestrom in Norway

Bekah- Test Track

Nathan- live entertainment in WS

Rachel- KPM

Naomi-Ruth- music play area in the Imagination pav or anywhere she can play

GP’s-

DHS:

Me- Drawing Academy or ToT @ night

DH- TGMR

Bekah- TSM

Nathan- TSM

Rachel- VotLM show

Naomi-Ruth- PHDL show

GP’s-

*** honorable mention Osborne Lights

AK:

Me- FotLK show or EE

DH- Jammin Jingle or Jungle Parade

Bekah- Safari

Nathan- Safari

Rachel- Boneyard

Naomi-Ruth- Boneyard

GP’s-

I still need to get some feedback from Matt’s Parents (the Grandparents or GP’s) want to make sure I plan stuff for them too…though I have a feeling they’ll just say whatever you plan will be fine and they will join in as they can…

and the reason I have some or choices is since this would be items we'd have to split up to do as I am the only one who will go on the thrill rides w/ the exception of BTMRR and Splash...but still our whole family can not go on...

So if you had to pick ONE top thing to do at each of the 4 parks…what would you choose?

Up NEXT: Our TOP 5 General WDW to do lists….
Thanks for reading as always,

Scrappie J~

Love the analogy!!! That will be a great way to remind everyone what you are hoping to get out of the trip!

Hmmm, one thing per park? That is a tough one...

MK -- riding Haunted Mansion or Splash Mountain
Epcot -- Soarin'
DHS -- Star Tours (I love that ride, but I think it will be closed for a refurb while you are there)
AK -- Safari :)

So much harder to decide than I thought it would be.

Hmmm. That is a toughie...

MK: Castle Lighting Ceremony
Epcot: Soarin' (FW) Holiday Storytellers (WS)
DHS: TSM
AK: EE

Kathy

MK: Wishes (or whatever fireworks is showing at the time)
EP: Stop in at the Japan dept. store and buy little rice bowls and plates
DHS: TSM
AK: Safari
