I'm on strike from all housework! I'm tired of being the maid. I tidy up one room, go on to another, only to come back to the first a mess again. My 9 yo dd is the biggest mess maker. She just leaves her stuff wherever she is.

I'm not picking up a thing, I want to see how long it takes them to realize it :(

Sounds good BUT...If you're like me, it won't bother them a bit and after a while it will really bother you and then you'll have a lot more mess to clean up!

TC:cool:

Get a big box and set it outside the back door. Though all the mess in there - clothes, dirty dishes, toys, etc. When they run out of clothes, dishes or toys they'll begin to realize;)

Kev - I'm going to call Mrs. Klombar and see if she shares your philosophy :teeth:

TC - I'm afraid you're right, they will probably just walk over top of it all

Kirk - Now this idea I like

I support you!

And if you need someone to join the picket line ...then I'm there... because I AM JUST PLAIN LAZY (lately) !!! LOL :teeth:

I've tried going on strike. With 4 males in the house their dirt tolerence is much higher than mine! I lost that battle.:(

Taking the things they left behind and putting them in a laundry basket work somwhat. ( Didn't work on DH.) I made them do a chore to get their things back! They were a little better for a few days.:D

I have been on strike before. Good luck!

I recently read about an idea called the "Saturday Bag." Get a large mesh bag--one for each family member. When you tidy up put their things that you find laying around in the Saturday Bag. They can only have the contents of the bag on Saturday. If it is something that they are just dying to have, then they must perform an extra chore or assignment to get it out of the bag early. (Gee, I hope that makes sense.)

I have not tested this out yet. My kids have been pretty good lately--WDW trip coming up and all!

I tried that. It never worked at our house, I was the only one who noticed

Good luck with this!

I must be blessed because I live in a house with two males. The ONLY problem DH and I have with roommate is getting him to take out the trash. We both told him the next time he forgets, we're putting it right outside his bedroom door. DH is concerned that our kitties may get to it, so I said fine, put it in his bathroom, that will get his attention in the morning now won't it???

When I was little, if we left a toy out after playing with it, my dad threw it away. It took only one thing to realize he was serious, and the problem was solved..... Good thing it was my brother who got caught first..... poor kid lost his favorite police car (with a working siren and all)!!

Spirit Feather, I tried the Saturday bag when my kids were younger. It sounded like a good idea but it didn't work because my kids had too many things. They just played with something else and didn't care if they had to wait until Saturday for those things.

My daughter used to leaver her cereal bowl in the living room every morning. I'd get so tired of seeing that, I told her one day she would find it on her pillow. Sure enough, I found it the next day in the living room and the instead of me picking it up and putting it in the dishwasher, I put it on her pillow. I had made my point.

I may start hiding her coat, it's always on the back of a chair not in the closet. Mmmmmmmm, what else can I put on that pillow????

You think your DD 9 makes a mess, just wait until she is 12 like my DD, talk about leaving a mess!!!

Boy do I understand you!
I have started a new game plan, when DD asks me to do something for her I just ignore it, just like she does when I ask her to do something, then she gets mad and I tell her, how does it feel to be talking to a wall??
I do pick things up and away from the livingroom but I throw them into her room and on the floor they go right by the front door, so if she wants to go into her room, she has to walk on it.
Funny she's also 9 almost 10, I wonder if it's an age thing! I don't nagg anymore. Now the younger one ( almost 6 ) that one I make her clean up the playroom daily!
As for my husband.....he's an excellent provider and he loves us to death, but he is useless when it comes down to the house!
I work weekends 10-11 hour days and when I come home it's a real mess!!! I start giving orders and I sit down on the couch until it's all clean!
