Hi All,

I just had to share....................

I managed to get 2 nights booked at a reduced rate at AKL along with 6 nights at AsMo :Pinkbounc

You guys are the first to know ::yes::

My son is out right now, and my daughter is working but they will both be thrilled. :cheer2:

We have visited the AKL many times and always said how nice it would be to stay there, well I thought "Heck" why not????? So I called WDW this afternoon and managed to modify my reservation so that we can go at the beginning of our trip (Feb 10th) I would have done things in reverse and put the AKL at the end except that value season ends on Feb 15th and I wouldn't get a good a rate, but I'm not complaining, I'm so happy!!!!

Thanks for letting me share with you all :goodvibes

Thats great news. Yesterday I tried to modify my ressie and change my last night (Jan 7) to AKL, but the least expensive rate I could get was $243 US, so I stayed with the $62 plus tax rate at POP.
AKL looks fabulous. We spent half a day touring it 12/04 and it seems to be a very special place.

Have a wonderful time!!!

Thanks Suzy,

The hard part now is keeping this a secret from my DS!!! ;)
I let my DD know by email and I know that she will be very happy, but my son will be ECSTATIC!!!

I was very lucky and got a lovely CSR at WDW to modify my reservation and I managed to get the CAA/AAA discount. I have selected a water view room ($195) and am hoping that maybe (fingers crossed) we might get an upgrade when we check in, but even if we don't, I know the experience of staying at AKL will be magical. :goodvibes

We also got the CAA/AAA discount for AsMo at $63 + tax for the remainder of the vacation, so all in all I'm happy with our choices. :)

I did notice when I went through the disneyworld.ca site that it gives you comparison's at different resorts and that WL was slightly cheaper and the other option was a FW Cabin. Maybe my next trip I will consider those,
but for now AKL will be great.

Perhaps, you might want to call back again, in case you can modify and get the AKL for the date you wanted at a lesser rate, you never know, it doesn't hurt to try more than once.

Good Luck and all the best for your vacation!!!!

Mackenzie is so adorable.

I might call CRO back. I also checked on moderates and there was not one mod available for Jan 7. Maybe I will just sit tight and stay at POP for the 8 nights. The whole Disney part of the vacation was an add on already. We have two weeks planned south of Tampa but then I found out that school starts back later then I thought (Jan 9) so I extended the vacation to include an extra week (7 nights in Disney). Then I added one more night since I didn't like the flight times home on Jan 7.

Then I added a couple extras (Family Magic Tour and the kids pirate cruise) , so the "cheap" add on week is turning into something a little more then "cheap". :rotfl: Maybe i should just stick with POP. :goodvibes

Have an amazing time. The AKL is so incredible. I could sit in those big wooden chairs on the 2nd or 3 fl? look out areas and watch the animals all day. So could DD. We are getting unlimited passes for Busch Gardens for the two weeks we are near Tampa so maybe we will be able to get our "fill of animals" when we are there.

You will love AKL. We stayed there last February, and there was nothing nicer than watching the giraffes and elands while drinking our morning coffee. It's very peaceful. Don't forget to check out the night vision goggles at Arusha Rock.

Where is "water view" at AKL ? Is it a view of the pool? If so, the pool is lovely. Or is there a lake nearby ? We've stayed at AKL only for 2 nights, but it was a wonderful experience.

Hi Mortlives,

Thank you for your info. I have told my DS(14) about the night vision goggles and he is SO excited. I was going to keep it a secret from him that we were going, but I couldn't, so he now knows and is thrilled. My DD (25) is also thrilled. We are hoping that maybe (fingers crossed) we might get upgraded so that we can do as you did with morning coffee on the balcony, but even if we don't we will be happy just to be there.

Hi MaryLiz,

The CSR at reservation didn't explain where "water view" is but I feel that as long is the room is on the upper level that hopefully noise won't be an issue.
I've also read on these boards that if you request a room at the furthest end of the buildings, that in some you can see the Savanah?

My DD and DS and I have decided to give the parks a miss for the 2 days that we are at AKL and just enjoy the resort and all it has to offer.

I'm glad that you had a lovely experience when you went, it seems most people are very positive about AKL and that makes me feel better about parting with the extra $

Thanks again for you comment,

Hi, Carol.

You're very welcome. Even if you are in a poolview or parkinglotview room, there are still public balconies where you can take your coffee and sit in comfort and watch the animals on every savannah. Still, I hope they upgrade you, anyway.

Good luck!
Morticia.

Great plan, Carol ! We spent a lot of time at the viewing areas, but also just soaking up the atmosphere in the lobby. :goodvibes We will go back again, someday.

How did you get the special rate? Was it a code, or perhaps an AP rate? How did you find out about it?

Hi pampam,

The rate I mentioned was a CAA discount. If a room is booked during "value" season (which for me is before Feb 15th) the CAA discount can be applied (approx. 15% for Deluxe resorts and 20% for value resorts) to the reservation.

Also, if a room is booked for a period where it changes from value to regular (such as my reservation at AsMo for Feb 12th - Feb 18th) then CRO will apply the discounted CAA value rate for the entire period !! :goodvibes

Hope this info helps!!!
