Did you eat at 5 Guys on Charlestown Road? If so you were about 3 miles from where I live.

Made it to caves. Time for a tour in about 20 mins.

I clicked on your post because I was just thinking how much I'd love to take a summer vacation -- and I was going to live vicariously through other DISers.

I'm posting to say that picture of the kids by the sign made me smile. We have a similar shot of my brother and I from maybe 18 years ago at a Mammoth Cave sign, and we look misrable! My family drove from Chicago to Disney every year, and my parents were always looking for places to stop along the way to break up the trip. My brother and I couldn't stand these stops, as we just wanted to get to WDW. Now, anytime anyone mentions Mammoth Cave, Chattanooga's train museum, Stone Mountain in Georgia, etc., I still groan. Perhaps I should try visiting them again as an adult, and not a disgruntled pre-teen.

The tour was great. We did the new entrance tour and it was 2 hours and 500 stairs. The kids did great. Eating lunch at pizza hut then off to rundown mountain and maybe dinoworld. We are in full cheesy tourist mode. I hit my head in the cave and I blame Paul.

Holy crap! You went to Guntown Mountain! I can't believe that!!! Did you go to Dinosaur World??

Stop off at big mikes then off to ride some go karts and the alpine slide

Back at the hotel relaxing. Free Breakfast and free dinner at Drury! Nothing special, but good enough to keep the kids happy.

Our last stop of the night was at Kentucky Action Park, riding the slides, go carts and the trampoline.

We had a full day, Trace even said on the way up the lift to the alpine slide "It felt like 2 days today, not one"

I have to agree. Our day consisted of waking up and grabbing breakfast, heading out to Mammoth Cave National Park about 30 miles away. We took all back roads though so it took us a longer, but we saw some great country on the way. The kids don't care, but we enjoyed it. We were very early for our tour, so we walked around the gift shop and bought worthless rocks and knick knacks.

We took the New Entrance Tour of Mammoth. Great tour, we enjoyed it very much. Got a little worried when we were told it was 500 stairs, but it was not an issue for any of us. The kids did great and at no time did I ever feel unsafe or that is was at all dangerous. Took some great photos that I'll post shortly.

After the tour we headed to lunch at a local place, something called "Pizza Hut". Shared a kitchen with "Wing Street", good place, they should franchise :rolleyes1

After lunch we hit Guntown Mountain. Wow, what a blast from the past. For the cost of a movie it was a fun few hours though. We watched a comedy/magic show, a shootout, got an old time photo (I'll post it shortly with some other photos) and the kids bought some six shooters. Lily got on in pink of course.

Took off from guntown mountain and hit Big Mikes Rock shop then Kentucky Action Park for go carts, alpine slide and trampoline. Quick free dinner and called it a day.

Thought I would add a little addition to the trip report.

The caves were really impressive. I had no idea what to expect and it was breathtaking at certain points. Even our 9 yo said "it is amazing, so beautiful". So glad we decided to go to Mammoth Cave.

The cheese stuff is truly fun. Gun Town Mountain was a riot.

And that Pizza Hut place.....very tasty but I know why we don't eat there very often. We ate enough to last the rest of the day and probably had the caloric intake for two days.

I am looking forward to having a cabin in Santa Claus. 5 people in a hotel is croweded, even with a suite.

Lets see if I can sum up the day in photos now :) I'll try not to post repeats.
