I'm off for an ice-skating lesson tonight!

I'm having my first ever skating lesson tonight. I'm a bit scared - I know I can stay upright and move forwards a bit but I don't know how to change direction or stop (apart from grabbing the side or falling over!).

Wish me luck - I'll let you know how I get on.

I used to ice skate almost every night/weekend when I was a teenager. I probably couldn't even stand up on the ice now!

I used to skate when I was (much) younger and went back to it a couple of years ago with the kids - was amazed how quickly it all came back!! Too much hassle to go into Edinburgh & classes clash with DHs golf or else I would be there every week!

I'm back and still in one piece! It was good fun but I have a lot of bad habits. I spent most of the lesson doing little steps and touching my knees. I was in a class of 5 but the others were much better than me. I only fell over once and that was during my warm up lap.

Well done, you did really well!

I went ice-skating once when I was about 14. A so-called 'friend' thought it was funny to take me out to the middle of the rink and leave me there Once I made it back to the side I wouldn't let go and have never found the courage to go again! And no, they didn't remain my friend after that!

I'm booked in for a course of 12 but I don't think you'll see me on Dancing on Ice soon.

What did amaze me was the stuff the small children were doing in the class before ours - I think I should have started 40 years ago!!!

It's scary when you see the little ones throwing themselves into spins & turns & jumps isn't it - but then again, they have no fear - if they fall and break something they get to miss school - if we fall & break something it's a whole other kettle of fish!!

Sounds like you had fun, I used to go skating with friends but aven't been for years. I'm slowly getting back into rollerblading though
