I started taking a one-a-day multi-vitamin, but other people are saying that if I eat fruit and vegetables during the day, I don't really need it.

The reason I'm not sure I want to take them is the uncomfortable side effect that taking iron can sometimes give!! (constipation:mad: ) If you do take one, did it make a difference? And did the iron have that side effect on you?

thanks,
Andrea

are there vitamins that don't have iron in them?

I take a multi-vitamin everyday as well as calcium supplements. WW suggests that you take a daily vitamin and mineral supplement to insure that you are meeting your daily needs. I do think it is possible to get a supplement that doesn't contain iron, but I don't remember where I've seen them. If I come across a brand or source, I'll let you know.

I take a multivitamin and it doesn't bother me, I have no side effects at all.

I take generic brand Centrum silver. For me the calcium tabs I take cause the problem:D you have. Do you take calcium?

I don't anymore, but I used to. This thread reminded me that I need to start taking them again. I actually like Flintstone's :o :teeth: (my doctor told me that they are as good as adult multivitamins).

I take a good multi-vitamin and a calcium supplement, without any side effects at all. I'm doing low carb, though, and I think vitamins are very important.

I started taking One A Day Weight Smart about 10 days ago. I don't know if it's from eating better or from the 1 A Day but my energy level seems to be up a hair and more even through out the day.

I do...I take a multi-vitanim
essential fish oils
Co 10
L- carentine
magnesium sulfate
calcium

I actually ordered mine from a store in Phoenix we used to go buy from. They have a blend that is geared towards diabetics, which PCOS is one of the early onset signs of Type 2 diabetes... It is supposed to help with glucose tolerance and insulin processing. I also take 1 oz. of Colloidal Minerals as the vitamin does not have a ton of minerals in it.

I have found the increase in fruit, veggies and water counter act any difficulty the iron may give...

Nosey question, but what is PCOS?

Count me in as another faithful multi-vitamin user!! I heard the same thing that if you ate a balanced diet you wouldn't need it but I've never really figured out how balance my diet really is so why take any chances. I also take magnesium and garlic pills!

Oh, yes, I just started taking one! :) I found mine at the Health Food store. They are made by KAL. I'm taking their multi-max 1 vitamin. I was feeling kind of sluggish before I started taking this multi-vitamin, but now I feel great through the day and I don't get those hunger pangs between meals! :)

Every day I take a Multi-vit, Vit C pill and a Tums
Just the other day I was thinking that I havent really been sick/colds this past winter

I just started taking the One A Day Weight Smart vitamin also. So far so good. I've notice that I'm sleeping alot better at night too and have more energy during the day.

I had always heard that multivitamin/mineral supplements aren't necessary if you are eating a balanced diet, but I went to www.fitday.com based on the recommendation from someone here and it is really hard (for me anyway) to reach the RDA's of all of the vitamins and minerals listed.
Even though I have been trying very hard to eat a healthy and varied diet, I have still fallen short in a few areas. I will still try to stick with healthy eating, but I will continue to take my multivitamin as "insurance".
