Okay, slightly more awake now since it is morning and slightly less attacked by the fibro atm! It sounds like you had a pretty smooth arrival, even if you did freak the car rental person out, which was pretty funny! I am looking forward to more of GKTW and everything you did here! I am local and would love to volunteer at GKTW when I am well enough, so am very interested in it even though I will likely not be able to volunteer there for quite some time. Great update!

The village looks fantastic. Bill is always talking about wanting to move to Florida and I told him if we ever did we would have to look into volunteering at GKTW. I am loving your report!!

If you wish to visit a family at GKTW, you tell the person at security the name of the family you are visiting. You will be directed to the House of Hearts where there is plenty of parking. Once you enter the House of Hearts, you tell whoever is working the desk the name of the family you are visiting and you will be given directions to their villa.

As for volunteering - go to the website GKTW.com. All the information is there including an application. You do have to go through a background check.

By the way, if you think the families are having fun - you should try volunteering.

Thank you so much for the clarified info, Katie! We didn't have visitors, so I knew the basics, but not exactly how it worked. I'm hoping Piper and I can come back down the road and spend a day, volunteer, and just enjoy the village more.

I have never "downgraded" a car but I have frequently declined upgrades for just the reason you said - don't want to drive a big honking car in an unfamiliar city!

oh boy! i can't believe you girls have to get packing again. you just got home! i think you both are amazing and so strong. on the bright side, you made it through your wonderful wish trip without major mishap ( i hope... i think...haven't seen the whole tr yet!?) and at least piper's condition has been diagnosed and will be treated. the best i can say is please both of you take care of yourselves and each other. rest up and get strong. soon you will be back home again, and in the meantime, do what i do. when i am down, i close my eyes and think about my time at wdw. it always helps me. ( actually , i just had to do that last week during a few trying moments! ) think about all the fun you had and all the friends you have here on the DIS rooting for you. take care.

I am glad she had such a great trip, but wished you had better weather. I'm sure that, and all the different pollens didn't help...my asthma kid is a mess from that, I can only imagine what Piper is going through. Pop us a note when you can, I promise to be happy with it!

Snapfish is what my friend uses for her photos, and she's the best bargain queen I know! Me, I'm so lazy about scrapbooking my youngest thinks her babybook is the computer.
