Well, I'm not new to the Dis, but I'm new to WISH. : )

It looks like this is a dieting and exercise board, and this is where I'd like to be! What does WISH stand for? I'd like to hang out here because it looks like a supportive environment.

I would like to lose 10 pounds. Maintain that. And then lose another 10 pounds and keep my weight right about there for the rest of my life, if possible. To begin with, I lost 2 pounds. It's a start. : )

So far, I cut some calories by eliminating sodas and cutting back on other drinks with calories. I am also working on potion control, trying to eat less in general. I generally keep a lowfat diet anyway for health reasons, but I could probably kick the fat out a little more.

I am out-of-shape, but hope to walk more once the weather is nicer. I also have an exercise bike that I'm starting to use. I'm taking baby steps toward exercising, as I know too much too fast isn't good. I don't have the time or $ to join a gym, so most of my exercise will be walking and using my exercise bike. I have plantar fasciitis, so I have to be careful with the walking. I also do little things, like parking far away from store entrances, using the stairs instead of the elevator, etc. I'm thinking of getting a jump rope for a short cardio workout, but it's been more than a couple of decades since I've jumped rope.

If anyone has any advice on how to best and safely shed those first 10 pounds, please feel free to step in and give it. : ) TIA!

You already have an excellent attitude which is a GREAT first step! First step may be to write down what you eat each day and count the total amount of calories. Try to eliminate 200 calories per day for a start. Your ideal of taking things slow and easy is the BEST way to shed the pounds an get into shape!

You don't need a gym. What you already have should be good enough for now. Later as you get stronger you may consider joining but again I really believe the key is to take things slowly and be consistent! And never give up!

:welcome: pixiedust to the WISH board. follow the link in my signature for all the details....................including what the heck WISH stands for ::yes::

how about replacing those sodas with water!! your body needs 8 glasses of water each day to keep hydrated so you can burn fat and flush it out!

i agree your attitude is fantastic and a great way to start! remember it's a journey.................we are here to encourage each other when the road gets bumpy and celebrate when you reach a success! try setting a mini-goal if your overall goal seems faraway. keep your sights realistic, which sounds like you are

there are usually several monthly challenges going on -- this is a great time to jump in and join. feel free to join any of the challenge threads at any time - or start your own if you don't find one that suits your needs. finding a group here to be accountable too helps me tremendously!

Congrats and welcome!!! THere are some great threads that are all very encouraging and reinforce postive attitudes and a healthy outlook and approach!

Go ahead jump in the water is fine!!! Lots of great cheerleaders on here to help keep you motivated. Glad you are here!!!

:welcome: Kelly, I just wanted to say Hi!!! :wave2: I, too, encourage you to join in the monthly challenges. I find they have made me a bit more accountable than going it alone. I think you've made some great changes already. I know you'll reach your goal soon.

Thank you for the warm welcome! :disrocks:

I had a pretty good week. My exercise goal was to do 15 minutes on the bike for 5 days this week, and I did that. Next week, I might do a mix of 15 and 20 minutes for 5 days. I want to slowly build up from being inactive to being active. Instead of the jump rope (there is no place indoors for me to use it), I was thinking about adding a few laps up & down the stairs in a few weeks for a short cardio workout. I still need something for my abs, which is where I tend to carry weight.

I've been being good about drinking water. Sometimes I drink diluted iced tea (50% water, 50% tea). One of my Disney mugs goes with me everywhere I go in the house and I sip most of the day.

Tomorrow night I know that I'll probably eat more fatty foods than I should during the superbowl, but I'm going to work on portion control. I'm going to put stuff on my plate, and when it's gone, that's it for snacking.

Thank you for the support!

It's great to have you here! I'm glad you found our fantastic group!

So far it seems like you've got a good handle on what you want to do. The advice already given is good.

To help you mix up a bit you might consider a trip to the library to borrow some of their exercise videos. That will be a way to add some variety to help you move along. Take care of the plantar fascitis.

Join in anywhere and come back here to let us know how you are doing.
