I just went back after 12 years at home, I'm an aide to a learning support teacher in 7th grade. As the others said, don't show any fear around the kids! I received no training whatsoever, so I just figure it out as I go along. I love my job and the kids and actually catch myself thinking on Sunday that I'm ready to get back into class on Monday! Tomorrow is mis-match day, I have to go put together my clashing outfit. Good luck, you'll do great.
That's how I started my job in the elementary school system. I subbed quite a bit for about a year. Then the principal approached me to apply for an assistant position that had become available.
I always remember to bring my sense of humor with me. Yhe kids seem to respond best to that.
I'm glad to hear it went well Lars! I've done a little subbing over the last 3 or 4 years... it's a challenge at times but can also be so rewarding. I hope you continue to enjoy it.
