I'm lucky--- I had a stroke

I'm so glad you got a second chance.

I lost a dear, long time friend a few weeks ago. She had a stroke in her sleep. She was only 54. :sad1:

Best of luck with your bypass. You're in my prayers.

they have a habit of being a wake up call don't they?

another right sider here (2 x), and as far as mobility-the only time you can tell with me is when i'm either extreemly tired or having a severe migrane (then that right sided weakness seems to act up a bit).

if you're working with a speech therapist i'm guessing you suffered some aphasia-how's that going for you? again with mine-it only realy acts up with excessive tiredness or a migrane. i figure it's my body reminding me to take care of it.

take care, stick with the therapy-but get some rest (don't know about you, but a stroke was the single most exhausting event my body has ever gone through-and that includes labors of over 28 hours each).

I did some. It has gotten much better and the therapist has signed off.

Good thoughts have been sent your way!

What are the symptoms/signs of your stroke? You always hear that there are some, but I haven't heard from anyone who has actually had a stroke.

There were none at all.
i was sitting and when I got up my knee gave out. I thought it was a knee problem. My wife thought otherwise and wanted me to go to the hospital. The male ego kicked in and I didn't go until the next day. Docs say the best thing she did was feeding me asperin.

A few years ago at thanks Giving we went around the table stating what we were thankful for. I said having a great wife. Boy was /am I right. I told her I am going to make it not only for me but for her too. We have many more miles to travel together.

I'm happy to hear you are progressing so well. I hope you continue to do so and have a quick comeback after your surgery.

You have a quick thinking wife! Good for you. Bless you both.

Wow, that is one spooky wakeup call. I'm so glad that you are doing well.

I hope that all of those symptoms go away and that surgery goes real well too. I'll keep you in my thoughts.

You're in my prayers! Who'd ever think that a stroke could be a blessing in disguise?

All prayers will be gladly accepted.

congrats!!!(on your recovery & finding out a bigger problem)

My hubby also had a stroke a month ago. he was also extremely lucky!
his symptoms were losing feeling/use in his right arm. & he could not talk right * (his right side of his face went numb)
rescue took him to hospital where he quickly regained his arm, but he still has some numbness in his face. MRI shows a scatter of dead spots on his brain,
no cause for HIS stroke, but he has now quit smoking ( after 40 years). (been a struggle, cold turkey, but nicotine in ANY form is bad.)
I think THIS was his wake-up call to quit smoking. he is 58 yrs.

oh, btw, are you on lipitor or anything besides aspirin now?

That is one of the sweetest things Ive ever read! You are blessed!

Your attitude is wonderful and will surely pull you through your upcoming surgery with flying colors! Good thoughts headed your way!

both of mine were preceded by migranes. with one it was what seemed like a normal (if there's such a thing) migrane, during which i dosed off. i remember having a nightmare during which i woke up to what seemed like a blinding flash of light that ran across my right peripheral vision. i felt weak, but did'nt have major weakness-dh later told me that when i talked i sounded like someone inebriated who spoke VERY broken english (kind of drunken borat style:rolleyes:).

with my second i had been having headaches on and off for a few days, it did'nt seem like anything major. in that case, i went to get up off the sofa and found my right side weak, and dh noticed the facial droop and aphasia (verbal issues). the thing with aphasia is-depending on the severity, a person suffering from it might not even realize it (i still occasionaly get bouts-and i don't realize i'm not making sense).

I made it thru by-pass and waiting for cardiac rehab. Doing stroke rehab now. I may need an implanted defib.

Thanks for the update and hang in there buddy:)

So glad your surgery went well. :goodvibes Sending prayer and pixie dust for your continued health and well-being.

Thanks for updating us. Sending prayers and good wishes that you continue to get better and better!
