I'm just saying NO to onsite!

I agree with the last post. This year, I received my first e-mail postcard ever for fall that would be $49 for a value. I had never stayed onsite before, did order the planning video, so those reasons may have combined as to why I got one. I actually thought I got it from being a frequent disneystore.com customer, since it came via e-mail. That could have been the marketing idea behind it.

When codes came out for that time period rates were $55 value. I didn't see that as much of a difference, so I wouldn't be upset to not get another postcard. I do see the point of frequent onsite visitors, but didn't think the room rate difference was that big a deal.

I think WDW is pretty generous with the frequency of the codes.

I think you are on to something. They probably send cards to people that for whatever reason they think will not hear about the discounts any other way. I don't need a post card for my discount because I know about mousesavers, for example. There is most often a way to get a discount, unless it's spring break or something like that.

I think that if you plan a few trips (without actually purchasing them) and register to receive the video, you will eventually get the postcard or an email.

Our family goes to WDW a lot (3 X in past 6 months), have AP's and always stay in a Disney Resort. And, we've been doing this pretty much since 1990. No, I have never recieved a post card. I have noticed, however, that I am continually being upgraded, even with a discounted room (AKL standard-savannah, WL standard-pool view, CBR standard to preferred bldg.). I wonder if this is just coincidence or a perk? I've never asked for the upgrades.

I got a discount e-mail recently. I visited WDW in Feb and had two trips in the works when I got the e-mail (which I took advantage of for another trip...).

There doesn't seem to be a rhyme or reason to the postcards/e-mails that are sent out. Seems that they sometimes go to people who have been recently or who have gone often, other times the opposite.

For my particular discount, it was a good deal, but really only a heads up by a couple days of a discount that was going to be made public (an AP code, I think). When I called to reserve CRO knew that I'd gotten the e-mail and there was no code to give.

AP rates are best rates available. If you want the best discount, instead of griping about not getting a postcard, go buy an Annual Pass - then you can gripe about when the AP rates are going to be released, and if there will be enough rooms available at AP rate. ;-)

The only time I ever got a postcard was after I had been forced to cancel an upcoming trip. When the card came to our Southeast Florida home, and I called the number, the woman spoke to me in Spanish. I asked her if we could continue in English, and she said, "Oh, sure." I figured that they were either targeting me because we had cancelled our reservation and hadn't rescheduled, or because I happened to live in an area with a large number of Hispanics, and they were targeting that group at the time. We did reschedule with the card, and stayed at the YC. It was wonderful, but we never received another card. We have been making two trips a year though, so I think the theory that the cards may come to some people as enticement may be true to some extent. Maybe the cards try to get us to move up to a better resort? (My previous trip had been at POR)
There are great discounts available through Mousesavers, but it's the idea of being chosen to recieve the postcard that's fun!

I await the flames, but you're not entitled to anything. No one is. I've been to WDW more than 100 times since 1974. I get uncomfortable when I think I deserve something. Disney has neither offered us perks nor have we asked for any. It's a vacation, and Disney is a corporate monster, no more no less. I suppose if I'm going to get shafted, I'd rather Disney do it than anyone is - but just barely :)

There've been discount codes released recently for the general public. Are the postcard rates that much better? What's the big deal about the postcard?

I've never gotten a postcard. I've been to WDW about 35 times, most of them in the past 4 years. They probably don't need to market to me.

I agree! Disney is a for profit company and if there are filling the rooms without discounts, codes, and promotions they can and will do that. Not that I turn down a discount and I do my best to try and find the best discount, but I'm not entitled to one, either.

Same goes for Universal. Used to be a deluxe room at HRH could be had for $125/night plus tax (entertainment card rate) and that was in August. Those were the days! Then word got out about how nice the resorts were and about how wonderful the front of the line privledges were and now discounts are harder to come by and not nearly as good. But I can't fault Loews for that since they are filling those rooms.

I have an AP, own DVC, stay at non-Disney hotels frequently, and I have rec'd a discount postcard within weeks of returning home. If I recall correctly, we had just returned from a value resort and the postcard was for a moderate.

We couldn't use it and never rec'd another one.

Go figure...
