I'm so envious of y'all that go every year (more than once) and am trying to figure out how to achieve it myself. Bear with me here.

If I buy an AP and take all my vacation (well, most of it) in a year in weekly increments so that I can spend a total of three weeks in WDW, are the hotel discounts good enough to help rationalize the extra cost?

I think we can make a trip every 4 months for pretty cheap (value resorts-maybe even off-site one trip, cheap food, few souvies)-even with the drive from Dallas.

What do y'all think? Do AP's have other perks?

I think if you spend more than 8 days at the parks then the AP pays off. That''s the number I've heard for justifying purchasing an AP. If you can go three times a year that would be 21 days so you'd save a ton just in ticket prices and any other savings you get would be icing on the cake IMO;) We love our APs because if we only go to the parks for a few hours we don't feel guilty for using a whole day off a park hopper pass. It alleviates the commando touring we used to do - but of course we still spend lots of time in the parks!!

Thanks for your answer...I didn't even THINK about the not wasting a day benefit...but I have more questions:

Can I reserve an AP room for next November now?

Do I get the 10% off TDS, etc or do I still need to join DC for that?

I've already looked at the resort savings and it's definitely worth the upgrade to AP.

The DC discount on the AP's should pay for the DC membership. With the AP you get free parking, so if you stay offsite that saves $7 a day. You can stay offsite for $20/25 per night and up depending on how fancy the motel/hotel you wish to stay. We usually pay $25 to $32/ per night before taxes for a clean room that sometimes comes with breakfast for two included. Sometimes I see where you can get microwaves and fridges for around that. Never know. (AP rate at value resorts was $49 in November - onsite, yeah!) All prices are plus taxes/resort fees/safes, or whatever the new extra fee will be.
