Hey everyone,

Today is my 180-days ADR for making some bookings for my Mum's 60th Birthday day on 29th August! I need to get on the phone to book a Wishes Cruise as a priority and I am starting to worry I might not get the Ohana's dinner I would like. There are 13 of us - we're OK sitting at seperate tables - but I tried last night for a dinner of 13, 9, 5, 6 etc. various table sizes and couldn't get one ADR online AT ALL for Ohana's (I was trying for 28th August)!!!

I honestly don't think my Mum would be THAT upset and I would just try and get a dinner there another night during the trip if possible... but I was really looking forward to it and stupidly hadn't created a "plan b".

So... if I can't get Ohana's - what would your recommendations be out of:

Calfornia Grill
The Wave
Whispering Canyon Cafe
Kona Cafe

(Obviously all resorts where we can "catch" a Wishes Cruise from).

And I am thinking a meal around 6pm, to get us eaten and ready in plenty of time for the Wishes Cruise from either of the 3 resorts.

Otherwise I was thinking an earlier dinner (say 5pm, to give us additional travelling time) at:

Boma (Mum LOVED it)
Flying Fish
Yachtsman Steakhouse

We have mostly adults in the party but possibly 2 teenagers (if my brother decides to come on the trip) and 3 kids under 5, so needs to be suitable ish for them too.

Help please!!! I guess I have to decide on a restaurant before I book the wishes cruise!

Update - I read you could book online at 6am (so 11am UK time for me!) so I went online and only could get an 8.10pm ressie at Ohana's. This would never work timing wise would it? At the latest we'd have to be at the Poly boat dock for 45-mins before Wishes, so 9.15pm - giving an hour for 13 (possibly only 9) people to eat dinner. And that's based on us getting seated on time.

I'm so gutted! I'm going to ring in 10-mins when they open at 7am just in case.

I booked a meal at Boma for 5.40pm as a reserve. Out of all of the choices listed - I think Mum would prefer Boma as she loved it so much last time. That should give us at least 2.5hrs to eat LOL.

I'd still be grateful for any thoughts?

Thanks

I think for a large group Id probably choose The WCC
If not id go for Kona cafe :)

I thought the wishes cruises were hard to book. If so Id book that first and then do the restaurant afterwards. :goodvibes

the only availability I could find for Ohanas was 9.30pm.

good luck finding something suitable.xx:wizard:

The other worry with the ohana time is that you generally find you have to wait a while to be seated.
good luck finding something on the phone :)
keep trying as people cancel all the time.xx

Narcoossee's at Grand Floridian is also a nice upscale place. Plus, you could view the firework directly from your table (or go out on the terrace if you prefer).

Of your choices in the Magic Kingdom area I would say the California Grill is the nicest. It is more expensive but the view, food and service are great. You can also watch wishes from the roof of the Contemporary if you choose not to do the cruise.

Now if you want to get “rowdy” go to Whispering Canyon and let them know there is a birthday at the table the crew there will make it memorable. You would also be in a more relaxed atmosphere and would be able to talk between tables without bothering other people. It's a rowdy place!

The Wave and the Kona are good but IMHO not a place for a special birthday.

Of the other restaurants you listed they are all excellent, you will get a good meal from any one of them. If fact we celebrated my DW’s birthday at Boma a few years ago. I had ordered a cake ahead of time. A birthday celebration would also be more sedate at any of these.

Please enjoy ans say happy birthday to your Mom from the sarge, we're about the same age!

Hi all,

Thanks so much for your input! No luck on the phone with Ohana's :sad2:
I am such an idiot - it cost me a lot to ring them from the UK on my mobile phone - I don't know why I thought ringing would get me a table!

I have booked WCC - providing we can get the Wishes Cruise booked from there. I am a person who always goes with my gut instinct and my gut is telling me WCC would be so much better for the group we are. I got 6.35pm - that should be more than ample time to eat shouldn't it?

Otherwise, my Boma ADR (at 5.40pm but obviously further away) will be another FAB option - I will cancel one or the other when I know where we can get the Wishes Cruise from - if we can! I can't ring for that for another hour when my Dad can conference me in from his phone with his c/card!!!!!

Thank you again SO much!
