I'm having gastric bypass....

Hey everyone! I'm home from the hospital. Surgery went well. My doctor said everything was picture perfect, and he was really pleased with the way things went. I spent 3 days total in the hospital and then came home on Wednesday. I feel pretty darn good, all things considered. Pain is at a minimum, and I'm already doing some walking around the block. I've progressed from broth and Jell-O to cottage cheese and so far, so good.

It's been an emotional roller coaster ride the last couple of days, but I keep thinking of all the positive things you have said to me, and it really gets me through. I can't tell you how much I appreciate you all!

Glad to hear that everything went so well. It sounds like you are off to a good start. If you ever need a shoulder don't hesitate to PM. Please keep us posted on your progress.

I've been thinking about you! So glad you're home and feeling good and upbeat. Hang in there!!! You're doing great! :flower:

I'm glad things went well... Wishing you a speedy recovery.... Try to stay positive and take things one day at a tiime.. :flower:

That's my motto for sure! I never realized how many food commercials there are on tv these days. Luckily, right now, none of that food looks good. I did have to have a mini-funeral for one of my favorite dishes yesterday, though. DH was asked to make Dutch Oven potatoes for a church function, so I had to smell them cooking all afternoon, and then DH had the gall to ask me to stir them while he ran some errands. Not fair! It was definitely a low point. Today is good. Especially since I stepped on the scale this morning, and am down 13 pounds since Tuesday. That was definitely cause for celebration! :Pinkbounc :cheer2: :cool1:

LOL! I remember saying the exact same thing about all of the commercials. It didn't bother me too bad at first. The hard part was when my husband would eat something. The poor guy lived off of grilled cheese and tomato soup my first two weeks. I was getting so tired of the liquids and just wanted CHEW something. One day I grabbed his sandwich and just put it to my nose and inhaled the beautiful smell! He thought I was nuts, but it really did make me feel better, lol. Even though I didn't take a bite. Great job on the 13lbs. Be sure to keep a document of your losses. We set up a spreadsheet on excel and weighed once a week. It also helps to do your measurements. There will be times when you won't lose a pound but you will still lose inches. It's amazing how that happens and it helps keep you from getting so discouraged. You are off to a great start. Keep up the good work!!!

Congrats on the weight loss so far  Watch out for that early plateau we all seemed to encounter. If you suddenly stop early on in the game, don't worry, it'll start again just give it time. I lost 13 in the hospital in 5 days!!! Then I went home and didn't lose a single ounce for 2 weeks. I freaked! Then, one day all the sudden it started again.

Thanks so much! I won't worry about it when it happens, then. I'm sticking right to the eating plan the doctor gave me, so thanks for the heads up! The biggest problem the last couple of days is the tiredness and the pain in my back. Are these things normal? I'm assuming the tiredness is, but what about the back pain?

Did they give you an epidural? If so, that could be part of the pain. If it gets too much to bare, I'd definately call your doctor. The tiredness is definately normal. It was a full 6 weeks before I felt "normal" again. I had mine open though, so if you had lap, you should bounce back a little quicker.

I agree it was more than a month before I felt really well again. The tiredness is normal. The back pain could be the gas they blew in to be able to see but if it's really bugging you I'd ask your doc about it. My gas was so bad that for days after I got home I had to wear maternity clothes!! Then I farted some really really good ones and it was gone. :rotfl: This should be on the fart thread!

It's been 4 weeks since my surgery and I thought I'd pop in and let you all know how I'm doing. As of this morning, I'm down 34 pounds. I'm feeling really good, and haven't had any problems with any food. I've had a couple of days of plateauing, but other than that, things are going quite well.

Thanksgiving was difficult, but not horrible. I figure if I can survive that, I can handle Christmas.

Thanks for all your support!

I'm just now finding this. I'm glad your surgery went well and I hope you see the results you were hoping for.

My mother had a social worker who had this surgery but she managed to gain a lot of her weight back again. You must take this one day at a time and not waiver from a healthy eating plan. Good luck!

I am also glad your surgery went well. There are some success stories out there. While my sister's surgury did not go well (she went back in twice (!) and has a huge scar because she healed so poorly) she is one of the lucky ones to retain the "dumping" reaction. She has lost almost 200 pounds and weighs less than I do!

Thanks for updating us. Glad to hear you are doing so well. Yay for you!

Thanks for sharing your good news! Hugs!

Congrats! I have considered this surgery for the last several years. I just haven't taken the leap, but maybe soon. It's just a big lifestyle adjustment that I am not sure that I am ready for yet. You give me hope. Thanks for posting. Maggie

Way to go Maggie :cheer2:. So glad to hear everything is going well and how much better you feel. With the lap band that I had weight loss is alot slower, I've lost 25 since Sept. but it has made a world of difference. And I really look forward to going to the gym....... :cool1: I feel like I can tackle WDW next week with no worry's. Keep us posted.

Good for you! :goodvibes: It took me 5 months to lose 30 pounds the "old fashioned way" so doing that in a month is fantastic! Keep up the good work!
