...and about 50 other people. :rotfl:

Malcolm-Jamal Warner is headlining an African-American festival here on Saturday. Friday night, there is going to be a formal dinner in his honor. It is invitation only and sounds as if it will be pretty hoity-toity. :snooty:

One of my mother's customer's (mom's an optician) is coordinating the dinner and invited her and a guest. So, this average, SAHM will be hobnobbing with the likes of Theo Huxtable. But, don't worry, I won't forget all my little friends on the DIS. :teeth:

Just had to share my exciting news. :cool1:

How cool! I would ask you if your kids were excited about you meeting Theo but then looking at their pics they probably don't know who he is!

I wasn't aware MJW was born in africa?

 "African American" is the festival's wording, not mine. I refer to myself as black. Can't speak for MJW, though. I'll be sure and ask him Friday.

:dumbo: Congratulations! :dumbo:

I seen him on a TV program recently and he's quick to point out that he does not like to be called Theo. Make sure you use Malcolm if you have to address him!

I loved the Cosby Show.

LOL! They'd be more excited if Bill Cosby were going to be there. They think he looks like my dad. :confused3

:rotfl2: I was thinking about that episode, too. That's the one that really sticks out in my mind when I think about Theo. That shirt Denise made him was hideous! :rotfl2:

The Cosby Show was filmed down the block from my high school.

My youth council took us to see a taping of the show when I was the 11th grade. :cheer2: It was the episode with Lena Horne..

I got a nosebleed because the studio was so hot. As I was racing to the bathroom, I ran fight into Malcolm! :rotfl2:

Lucky you; I loved the Cosby Show! Have fun with Malcolm-Jamal (and everyone else) at dinner. :)

Too funny! Should I ask him if he remembers that? :rotfl: I hope you didn't get blood on his Gordon Gartrell! :scared1:

You know your kids probably do know who he is...

He is the producer on The Magic School Bus! He answers the phone calls at the end!

I love him on the Magic School Bus :goodvibes

Have a great time!

I thought I would post an update for anyone interested.

The dinner Friday night was really nice. The menu was soul food, most of which I hadn't ever tried (I can't believe I'm admitting that--they're going to make me turn in my black card :lmao: ). There was catfish, fried chicken, pork ribs, collard greens, black-eyed peas, red beans and rice, fried cauliflower, peach cobbler and sweet potato pie.

Malcolm-Jamal Warner was late getting there, but he still made it. He was very warm and engaging. He took the time to talk with many of us and pose for pictures.

The next day, MJW gave his headlining speech at the festival. His message was one of self-confidence and self-accountability. He recited some of his poetry on the subjects. There were lots of teens in the audience, as the festival's theme is helping young people in the community succeed. They seemed to really enjoy his speech--let's hope they took some of it to heart.
